Corporate America and their use of propaganda
Propaganda is information of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a particular point of view. In George Orwell’s book, 1984 the government is called “Big Brother” and that name is used to control the minds of the people who live in Oceania. In Orwell’s book, there is a sign saying “Big Brother is watching you”, and it is put up everywhere throughout the city. The sign is a use of propaganda because it is promoting Big Brother, and making people think that the He is actually watching and knows everyones thoughts and moves. By everyone thinking that He is watching, it limits people from doing things that they want to do because they feel as they will get caught and get in trouble. It’s Big Brothers way, or no way. The people can’t watch certain television shows/movies, and they can’t have or do anything

In today’s society we still can relate in similar ways. “This is Yeonmi Park - a human rights activist who fled Kim Jong Un's brutal land known as North Korea. She fights for people's freedom but this privilege came at the cost of her own. Park was 13 when she fled North Korea with her sister and mother. From watching her mother get raped in front of her own eyes to being sold as a sex slave to an older man, Park lived through it all. In her new book 'In Order To Live', Park narrates the events as they happen, all the while allowing her reader a glimpse into her indomitable spirit that carried her forward to a life that she now lives. When she was finally saved, she realised how she owned nothing - she worshipped a religion that was a regime; she loved the colour 'red' for it represented the regime; and she had no values because the regime taught her none. Now, a woman in her own right, Park travels the world and fights for people's freedom. Because of one girl's resilience and will to survive, a lot of people are being saved
Propaganda is used as a powerful tool in order to persuade and manipulate the general public into believing in another’s opinion. This device is mainly used by the government to promote warfare, political figures, and specific ideals. However, propaganda is not always used for positive feedback. This form of advertisement can enlist fear, suppress, and brainwash the population. In the novel 1984, propaganda is used in this manner of negativity. A few examples of this form of publicity is the language of Newspeak, the Party’s slogan, and the two-minute hate.
In the book 1984, which takes place in Oceania, all people are constantly under surveillance by Ingsoc. Ingsoc is Oceania's government. Also the widespread use of propaganda is quite evident in this book. Surveillance and propaganda are used to control, watch, and influence the peoples of Oceania.
Some governments in the world today restrict their people from talking bad about the government itself. The main government, also referred to as “The Party”, in George Orwell’s 1984 takes this concept and amplifies it, even the smallest facial movement could have you thrown in jail and tortured. There are many ways The Party keeps the citizens of Oceania in line; children spies, rewriting history, police that arrest people just for thinking that the government is wrong, and the most prevalent of all telescreens. The Party’s telescreens is one of the best ways The Party can control the masses. These telescreens not only keep watch of anyone in their view, they also play propaganda.
There have been many who have tried to rule over large pieces of the world by using fear and propaganda, but they have always fallen from either their plan not working and they get kicked out by other countries or they get overthrown by the people. The totalitarian dream of government was that plan for many people, Hitler, Stalin or Mussolini. 1984 encompasses the idea that the plan worked and has successful for year, even though their overruling government has a few slight changes. The Party does not execute people who are “unclean”, they alter history and people’s minds, and they only want one thing, power for themselves. This is why a society with hate will not survive in the world.
During the George W. Bush administration, media used Osama Bin Laden as propaganda to instigate hatred among Americans, showing him as the responsible of the 9/11 attacks and exhibiting him as a common enemy between the Americans and the United States government. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, the Party used the image of Goldstein during the "Two Minutes Hate," claiming that all crimes against the party, all tragedies, and sabotage were directly related with him, showing him as a common enemy between the citizens and the Party . Propaganda along with others subjects such as, patriotism, war, and torture makes today society to have much in common with Orwell's novel. Even though 1984 is just a political fiction novel the coincidences and
Misleading Propaganda In the words of Evita Ochel, a writer, educator, and author for human wellbeing, “Until you realize how easy it is for your mind to be manipulated, you remain the puppet of someone else's game.” Many people in the world don’t realize the methods and tactics the government uses to get inside one’s head. Written by George Orwell, the 1984 novel conveys the idea that the government can manipulate anyone’s mind, using humans as puppets in everyday life. Mashal Zahid Discussion Paper 2 In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, the world for each individual is built upon the foundation of immense lies and false information. Now, of course the citizens of the world of 1984 do not know this. The Party has ways of “controlling” the people. The Homeland Security monitors all of our social media, text messages, and emails. They constantly are checking these things to make sure there is no terrorist attacks being planned in the United States. Another thing that makes the U.S going towards the ideology of the Party is the Patriot Act. This is when the federal government can legally search anybody's home without a warrant.
George Orwell wrote 1984 to display how one’s perception of a utopian world can quickly become dystopian with the addition of too much government intervention. This section of the novel was written following World War 2 to warn readers about the future of the country and how to prevent the events that took place in the novel to never occur in real life. Because the world was left scarred by the results of WW2, Orwell wanted to make sure that countries didn’t fall under a dictatorship or oppressive government in which the basic human right of privacy would be diminished. Based off my historical knowledge on WW2, I know that Hitler used propaganda within his campaigns to promise the people of Germany a way out of the depression that they were

Media is seen everywhere and everyday, but it does not show everything. In George Orwell’s 1984, media is used to spread propaganda for the government. Media censorship and selectivity are used in favor of the government as a part of propaganda. Today, media is more influential than ever. The techniques of propaganda are still used currently by governments around the world. George Orwell uses propaganda through the media to influence the minds of the public in 1984 similarly to how present-day nations control the media with censorship.
What if every move made or action taken was watched on a screen? In the story 1984 written by George Orwell has a theme given by the over aching government. The conflict of this novel comes from the oppression and controlling ways of the government. The protagonist of this story named Winston had troubles wrapping his head around their conniving ways, and yet though illegal had a quite complicated yet interesting relationship with a lady named Julia. Not that everyone else disagreed with Winston, but most of the people who live in his society have been brainwashed through the use of propaganda. One symbol that deemed surprising was the fact that Winston did have his own opinion in life and used this as way to protrude it. If a woman would have
“War is peace, Freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength.” George Orwell’s 1984 depicts a dystopian state which is controlled by a totalitarian government. The government uses propaganda as a cornerstone of exploiting people and remaining in power. Techniques such as doublethink, slogans, newspeak and laws are cunningly used by the regime in order to maintain authority. Every action of an individual is controlled by the state through the use of fear thus restricting an individual from using their own intellect in order to make effective decisions. The propaganda evident in 1984 can be compared to the propaganda found in the film Goodbye Lenin.

News media outlets refuse to share the crippling numbers for fear of America rebelling and causing chaos within the nation.
