Introduction Coach Boone made sure that all teammates liked each other, even though they were different races. The whole point of the camp was that they got to know each other and work as a team. Coach Boone is a good coach because he was dedicated to making a dedicated team, even though everyone hated him, they still needed him. Coach Boone was a good coach in many ways. It is important to see that Boone has to really prove himself to be a black coach among mostly white players and white coaches, so by being tuff and ruff is his only way to prove himself. Bonding They went to the camp to train, wanted to each other and learned to work as a team. Coach Boone made sure that bonding was also one of the number one priorities right next to training when Julius and Derry hated each other at first, they were bonded for life at the end. Being a white and black duo makes it harder to bond due to the racist stigma in society. Boone broke that society stigma and made sure to bond the two races. A mixed team makes it hard to connect the two groups. and they all came together through teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendship. This proves that he is very dedicated towards his team. When you are a sled dog, you are a strong pulling team. The coach made sure that they would never quit and never slack. Though it was harsh, it was strong. The way the theme sled dog appears in the movie is when the coach had to persist to make a successful team and the way the team put in the work to be a strong bonded team. Sled dogs are a metaphor and a way of life. The coach installed that in the teammates for success. Sled dog life is a theme we have in our class. The movie portrays sled dog life in many ways. This movie connects to our class because our class never quits and is a hard pulling

Gary Paulson’s book Woodsong is about dog sledding and the wilderness. Woodsong starts with the author explaining what he knew about the woods. The author mentions, “I understood almost nothing about the woods until it was nearly too late” (Paulson 1). This shows that the author went into his job knowing little about what would ensue. Quote number two explains when Paulson first became involved with dogs.
Coach Boone’s coaching method was intense and authoritarian like. There are many ways of coaching a sporting team or sportsman, but Coach Boone’s motto was undeniably, ‘This is the line. Say goodbye to it now because we aren’t just crossing the line. We going far away from it.’ He pushed his players to both their physical and mental breaking point that even his assistant coach questioned his ways. There was a point in the movie that showed this pretty well and
For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him. He didn’t just order them to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with them. He had self-sacrificed for the team. Coach Yoast, went to tell him that he was pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly what he was doing. When he stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and what that had as result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. That speech inspired them to want to be more, to want to grow as a group. And in the next game, after the Capitan of the team took the first step, they finally started to be a united team.
In the movie, Coach Boone is a master motivator. He does an excellent job of energizing his players, sustaining the motivation, directing the motivation to the right players at the right time, and also knowing when to stop motivating. The satisfaction progression hypothesis is also displayed in the movie. Coach Boone knows that the small things, such as making the routine plays in the game, must be done first before the main goal can be achieved, winning the game. He also has a high expectancy of his team. He believes that the effort of his team will lead to performance and that the performance will lead to results. He expects his team to practice just as hard as they play in the game. Julius Campbell and Gary Bertier, the two main characters on the team, are also excellent motivators. They get their teammates pumped up before and during the game.
This benefited the community in eliminating of discrimination. The players and coaches showed a lot of courage to create equality in the community. It requires courage to successfully complete a goal. For example, before boarding the bus, Coach Boone informed the players that each White individual would select a Black partner to accompany them for the summer training camp. This demonstrates their courage to form a relationship.
Coach Boone had an excellent follower or Co-leader. Coach Hines’ co-leadership abilities seemed to be the conscious for Coach Boone. He steps in and positively influenced Coach Boone decision. Also, Coach Yoast is excellent as a co-leader. The success of an organization or team is incumbent upon the abilities of everyone and all successful leaders have highly effective co-leaders.
They are a friend, teacher and motivator. All these things join up and make a great leader. Both coaches are not the same coach as they are all throughout the whole movie. Coach Boone is the more intense coach and he disciplines his players but on the other hand coach Yoast is more the ‘nice guy’ coach, but both coaches change their style of coaching all throughout
Herman Boone left his old school to come to Williams as he could coach black players and he was not given a fair shot for a job that he said he “was passed over for a job that [he] had rightfully earned”. Gave it to a white coach down there who couldn’t even tie up his own football cleats (6:00). That night we see coach Boone working in his home until he hears cheering outside, this comes from the black families in the town as it seems Boone gives them a sense of hope. On the other side, Coach Yoast needs to tell his former players and his families that he is leaving and will no longer be their coach and that the football team will be integrating. The parents react by telling Yoast their kids won’t play for coach “coon” showing how the parents are racist toward Boone and have fixed opinions on their kids playing for a black coach.
Coach Boone in Remember the Titans demonstrates the leader-follower relationship which states that the leader can influence their subordinates through his relationships with the latter (Niemeyer, 2016). To gain the support of their subordinates, leaders develop them through mentoring, delegating, and promoting collaboration (Niemeyer, 2016). In turn, the leadership impacts the subordinates’ engagement, initiative and performance (Niemeyer, 2016). Coach Boone led his team by asserting that they were a team who would dominate the season through perfection. As a result, the practices were all hard.
In the film Cool Running directed by Jon Turteltaub an important scene in the film was the final sled sequence. This scene was important for three main reasons. Firstly, determination is shown by the team. Secondly, how far the team as come and finally, winning isn't everything. This is shown through the visual and verbal features of camera work, dialogue and background music. This movie is about the story of four Jamaican men on their quest to represent their country at an Olympics and the struggles and hurdles they faced in getting there.
Players started to be assertive with each other basically only trying to tolerate just enough to get them through games and practice. Their coach, Boone, whose African-American makes the football team come together to get familiar with each other to lessen the uncalled for tension. He lets his team know that he is there so they can win hoping that winning games would bring them closer together and end the prejudice thoughts among the team. Which later on down the line the coach becomes more like a father figure to some players and their respect for him as a coach but also as a man rises.
This team actually started becoming a team after Coach Boone gave an inspiring speech at the graveyard in Gettysburg. That is when a team actually started to form. The speech was about the Civil War that happened at Gettysburg. He told the players to hear closely, because if they do, they can hear people saying things about killing their own brothers. He told the players that they have to stop fighting with one another and start thinking of each other as brothers and come together as a team and start seeing life in a different perspective. After that, they had plenty of practices and worked hard until they learned how to get along, and they finally did that. It was beautiful to watch them get along and become a team. They were becoming friends and would joke with one another in the locker rooms. Mostly everyone get along. Julius and Gary were becoming great friends, which was hard to believe, because they hated each other at first. Later on, they got a new player. He had long hair, and they called him "Sunshine". He was a quarterback and was the newest player on the mighty Titans. The team thought he was gay but he really wasn't.
From the time I was young, the other children who surrounded me were all boys. I had two brothers and four cousins who were males. Due to the fact that our family was very close, we spent a lot of time together. More weekends than I can remember were spent at my grandmother’s house as a family. As a result of my surroundings, I was not into the typical “girl” things. Some things that would be seen as appropriate for girls my age were dolls, makeup, and tea parties, however, I was more into sports. Football was one sport in particular, that I engaged in because of the boys in my family. Many might agree that football is all for the boys, but I was about to challenge that gender stereotype.
