Issues Faced by Subjects of Gay Marriage
Leviticus 20:13 states “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them”. There are many issues that married gay couples face. The big issues faced for these couples are the religious, social, and legal aspects towards gay marriage. According to the article written by Yale University student, Brian Harrison, the United States is the most religious nation in the world. While doing research, he found that nine out of ten Americans say that they believe in God and eight in ten pray regularly. Because the United States is one of the most religious nations, it makes sense that religion is brought into many arguments on a viewpoint such as the topic of gay marriage. This becomes a problem, because some religious people believe being gay is a sin and say that gay people are not following God’s commandments. The religious aspect of gay marriage often points out the scripture of Genesis 2:24 where the Bible says, “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become on flesh”. This is interpreted as marriage being between a man and a woman.
Religion is brought in on both sides of issues on gay marriage. Supporters of gay marriage use the first amendment of the constitution where it says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” (Legal
The US Made the Right decision by dropping the bomb on little boy. The Japanese fought hard and ruthlessly. They would fight to the last man on the pacific front. Also there citizens would commit suicide before they surrendered. In one of the island battles the Japanese would blow themselves up. Also the Japanese would crash jets into ships. The alternative was a massive ground invasion including 100,000 of thousands of soldiers. Then the survivors at Tokyo would have fought to the last man, woman, and child in a desperate final stand. That would made the causalities skyrocket to about 500,000 thousand or millions. However, around 200,000 died from the atomic bomb. Dropping the bomb was the lesser of two evils.
Gay marriage is not the only issue that is being discussed throughout America involving the gay community. In a particular study done by USA Today, results showed that when Americans were asked if they think homosexual relationships between consenting adults should be legal, 46% answered yes (“USA Today” 6). However, when asked if they would then favor a law that would allow homosexuals to get married, only 24% were in favor (6). This survey also showed the differences of peoples’ ideas based on if they attended church or not (6). The results showed that 73% of Americans who attend church weekly oppose the legalization of gay marriage and only 38% of those who don’t attend church oppose legalization (6). These results show that for many Americans, marriage is a religious agreement, but for many others, marriage is a right that should be given to all who want to partake in it.
As far as religious or personal convictions, those opposed to gay marriage seem to rely on the teachings in the bible, as well as other doctrines specific to their denomination. For many opponents, the view of gays and their relationships are stained by sin, immorality, frivolity and abnormal behavior.
According to a Pew Poll, most religious communities believe same-sex marriage and even homosexuality in general are morally wrong and do not follow their religious beliefs (Waldman, 2003). There is no major religion in the world that has ever altered the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples (Barlow, 2003). In general, it can be said that many religious people have strong views on same-sex marriage, declaring it wrong because of their religious beliefs.
For the past 3 decades the views surrounding marriage has undergone a great deal of change (Lennox, 2015, p. 1101). This shift is due to the continual discussion of gay marriage. The interplay of religion and politics has led for much controversy. In the United States, the use of Christian and Jewish biblical texts are the main sources drawn upon for opposition, but have also been used as a supportive means of equality. Beyond the religious there are also psychological and physical health arguments, as well as civil rights arguments. Same sex marriage is examined through different paradigms, thus giving rise to religious, political/legal, and religious arguments surrounding the legalization of this institution for gay and lesbian couples.
With gay marriage becoming an increasingly popular discussion topic there exist constant feuding between which is right or not. We must think through it logically and ask ourselves: how does a homosexual couple not constitute as much of a family as a heterosexual couple? Gay marriage in American culture but more closely religious culture is primarily not accepted but in Evan Wolfson’s “What is Marriage”, what really constitutes a marriage these days
But in “Gay ‘Marriage’: Societal Suicide,” the author says that religious beliefs are what matter because God, created man and woman to marry each other and not the same sex. “History and tradition—and the teachings of Jews, Muslims, and Christians—support the overwhelming empirical evidence: The family, led by a married mother and father is the best available structure for both child rearing and cultural health” (Gay “Marriage”: Societal Suicide 578). Religion teaches what is morally right and wrong and what God wants. He states that it’s a natural moral of a family to have a father and mother to raise the children. If one is missing, the family is broken and chaotic. The author has a solid claim that relates to society because most people are religious and follow the teachings of their religion.
The political aspects of whether same-sex couples should be allowed to federal and government recognized marriages are a very complex issue. There are basically two sides to the political argument of whether same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. On one side are the liberals who feel that marriage is a civil right that should be denied based on the basis of a person's sexual orientation. On the other side you have conservatives who feel that marriage is an institution in which should only constitute one man and one woman. In this report we are going to examine how the issue of same-sex marriages are affecting our current political environment, how politics is affecting the movement for
The controversy of gay marriages increases in debate within the United States and continues to be a debate even in the political scene. Whether we approve or disapprove of gay marriages the United States courts may force many to follow the law even despite the fact it may jeopardize their religious beliefs.
The proposed legalization of same-sex marriage is one of the most significant issues in contemporary American family law. As a heavily campaigned development currently discussed in law assessment; these extremely confrontational and debatable political questions are facing present day American courts. If same-sex marriage is legalized, its affect on the parents, children, same sex couples, families, and the social and political world will be astronomical. The arguments surrounding the issue though confrontational nonetheless are easily seen from a wide array of perspectives. One of the perspectives states that marriage is a promise to a spouse to stay loyal and faithful in all
The issue of gay marriage is a rather new controversy that has only become disputed in the last decade. In a changing world gay marriage is now a huge issue that must be dealt with. The gay community believes that the 14th amendment permits gay marriage, but the law heeds to
For years and years, homosexuals have fought for the right to marry their loved one. It has been looked down upon, called immoral, sinful, and deeds of the devil, but that is not the way it is seen by those who support or engage in it. Supporters view marriage as the union of two individuals who love each other. They no longer see it as the concept of "traditional marriage". They believe traditional marriage has changed over time, and that the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman is historically inaccurate (should
Public Policy making is a continuous procedure and in the issue of gay marriage, it will be continue to be endless for deeming what is right and wrong in the eyes of the law and The Bible. This day and age, we now have two distinctive family frameworks; heterosexual and same sex. The more conventional method for having a family demands marriage before (or before long) sexual relations start and goes for what society frames as specific gender roles. By disregarding sexual orientation and isolating sex from reproduction as in The Bible, same sex marriage blurs the lines in regards to what the norm is (Jost,
As we know, same-sex marriage has been discussed and argued for a long time. Within the controversial topic of gay rights, there’s no area more controversial than same-sex marriage. And all of us ask ourselves if same-sex marriage should be legal or not. But the fact is that we have to start thinking about it as a moral and religious topic. The government shouldn’t legalize the same-sex marriage because the
The controversy between same sex marriage and religious beliefs has been a reoccurring issue in the United States over the past few years. Not only are religion and same sex marriage controversial issues alone, but there is a direct correlation between the two that makes the situation even stickier than before.
