Hello I am Gage Malloway this essay will be explaining why i want to be in the food industry.
The earliest memories i have with food that i can recall are when i use to play outside during the winter when there used to be snow and our grandmother would make us hamburger or turkery soup to warm us up when we came in the house. The only other memory i have that i can remember is when my family gets together for the holidays like christmas, thanksgiving, and easter when would we eat turkey or ham dinners
On September 1, North Carolina man by the name of Matthew James Phelps has been charged with murder after stabbing his wife, Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, to death. Phelps claims he was under the influence of cough and cold medicine and does not recall what time it was when he found his hands and dead wife covered in blood with a bloodied knife nearby. Calling 9-1-1 upon waking up to the gruesome scene, Phelps had sounded dazed and confused, according to the operator, freaking out when he realized what he had done. Taking Coricidin, a cold syrup used to suppress common colds, to fall asleep, Phelps had consumed “more medicine than [he] should have” which had caused a cough-syrup-induced psychosis. If travelers are fortunate enough to travel through Albany, Texas, they will run across a precious gem of history located in the heart of Shackelford County. The Shackelford County Courthouse can be found in the center of Albany. This majestic courthouse catches the eye of those who pass by it. Many stop to capture a picture to forever hold a glimpse of its beauty. It is unique in that it is recognized as one of the nine Second Empire style courthouses built in Texas. The Texas Historical Commission recognized its uniqueness when it approved Albany’s courthouse to be the first to be restored as part of the courthouse preservation program. Travelers are willing to leave many miles from the beaten path to visit the historic and unique Shackelford County Courthouse since it is one the ideal courthouses in the state of Texas.
Henry McCarty, born around 1859 in the Manhattan area of New York, was more commonly known as Billy the Kid or William Bonney. His mother, Catherine, was an immigrant from Ireland who worked odd jobs to support their family. Soon after the death of her husband, Catherine, Henry, and her younger son Joseph moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she met her future husband William Antrim. The family accompanied Antrim to Kansas, and then New Mexico after Catherine was diagnosed with tuberculosis and advised to seek a warmer, drier climate. Antrim and Catherine were married soon after the move to New Mexico.

The Law office of Gary Hill is an organization that is in charge of helping clients who have legal issues. This organization helps people solve their legal problems, prepare legal documents, prepare real state deeds, reduce bonds, help people get out jail and defend their clients in court. This organization is limited to licensed attorneys, and there is just one requirement to join and that is to be licensed as an attorney in Texas. The Law office of Gary Hill is made up of members who are lawyers, judges, clients and secretaries. The genres used in this law office are phone calls, Internet, email and face-to-face. Their vocabulary consists of different languages such as Spanish, English, Latin and English related to the field of law. Latin is a very important language amongst lawyers, secretaries and judges.
In Webb Garrison’s book he wrote about how during the late 1800’s many people were taken as hostages. Some of these hostages were held for safety. “15 members of the confederate navy were being charged of piracy instead of putting them as prisoners.” Many of public functionaries and prominent citizens were taken as hostages. Some of these hostages were part of the 250 union men. In addition, many families were also taken as hostages. 150 facilities, North and South, had prisoners during the war. With the possibility that many privateers would be executed, the Confederates made a decision of using union prisoners of war as hostages in many prisons. Homer Plessy was a white man who boarded a train carriage in Louisiana, in 1892, and was kicked out because his blood was one eighth African. Plessy was taken to a police station and charged with the crime, recognized by Louisiana law, of having refused to ride the train in a black only carriage.
Arree Walton Sr. was born on April 11, 1924 in Big Sandy, Texas, the firstborn child of the late Willie Sr. and Daisy T. Walton. He grew up on his parents large farm where he learned discipline, hard work and respect at a young age. As the eldest child, responsibility was usually expected of him as he often worked on the farm, babysat his younger siblings and neighbors, and attended to the needs of the four other families that tenanted his father's fields. He excelled in his education and was involved in all his school plays and was always given the roles with the most lines, because his teachers knew he could always remember his lines (his teachers often stated he could memorize a newspaper overnight). Unfortunately at the age of 14 his father tragically died as a result of an injury he sustained while working on the railroads. After his father's untimely death his mother decided to move their family to Los Angeles, California to be with her sister, Arree's Aunt Tessie. Determined on keeping his father's estate in order, he decided to stay on the family farm while the rest of his family moved to Los Angeles. In my younger life my family was poor then when I turned 16 I ran away from home then a couple months later I started to rob banks and being a criminal. Hugh Williamson was born on December 15th, 1735 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. As a child, his father sent him off to get a liberal education; many family issues arose, such as, his parent’s careers and his mother, Mary Davison, captured by Blackbeard. As an adult, Hugh had many different jobs and moved from state to state. Hugh continued in the mercantile business with his brother, and also reentered private medical practice in North Carolina. In 1776 he was elected into the Continental Congress, and signed the Declaration of Independence. At 44 years old, he married Maria Apthorpe and had 2 children. In his later life, After his 2 sons and wife’s death, he gave up his profession as a physician, and continued writing philosophical publications in New York. On May 22nd, 1819 Hugh Williamson died in New York City.
My earliest memory of food is lentils and rice cooked in a pressure cooker. Lentils were cooked at least three days a week. Other days we had different vegetable curries, curd and more rice. This was what I took to school as my lunch every day. Harold Gillies was a famous individual who was responsible for introducing many of these new surgical techniques into the medical world. Gillies was born in New Zealand in 1882. Gillies came from a wealthy family, and did not have a surgical background. He studied medicine at Cambridge University and became a Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in 1910. Gillies joined the Royal Army Medical Corps as soon as WWI began. There he met a dentist named Valadier who specialized in repairing jaws. James Whitcomb Riley was a very famous poet who was the holder of the gold medal for poetry in 1911, now let’s take a deeper dive into his personal life. Riley was born on october 7 1849, and was born to be a writer but he didn’t know it. When he grew up he was sent to school to become a lawyer but soon discovered this was not his forte . Later in his life he found out he was very good at creating children’s poetry, his first ever was published in the news paper. He soon found entertainment was his forte and went from there.
Eating brings people closer together everyday, and for everyone, there are important memories that have been created because of food. Whether it’s a formal dinner, or an informal picnic, there will always be special bonds between people because food was involved. We need to have traditions with food because they form and strengthen the bonds between us.
I have always enjoyed baking and cooking, as a result, I often bake with my family members. This means that I do have some prior knowledge of importance of nutritional values, convenience, safety and shelf life of foods. Food Science has actually been integrated into our everyday lives, and that is what makes it so appealing to me. The food industry is one of the largest industries in the world and I am eager to be part of this important industry, researching on how to produce food that is of better quality. Research that has previously been done by Food scientists have largely contributed to the higher quality of life experienced in many countries today, as compared to that of previous decades. To work with food is a heavy responsibility as people place their trust in those who produce the food they consume. I believe that it would be of great satisfaction for me to see a food
