Sports is unlike any other business, the product is highly unpredictable, which in turn can heavily impact the consumer’s thoughts and feelings. This means the event can be managed and facilitated perfectly, yet fans may still go home with negativity and disappointment depending upon the result on the field. The following is my consumer perspective for two FSU athletic events.
For my men’s event, I attended the FSU-Clemson football game, a match-up people marked on their calendars months in advance. It was a primetime game on ABC featuring a fierce ACC rivalry between No.3 Clemson and No.12 FSU. I had known about the event for a while because it was such a marquee home game. Following the days up the game I noticed commercials on ESPN advertising

I noticed parking was an issue as I saw many people parking off to the side or roads and grassy areas on campus. However, this was not the case for me as I have a safe, convenient, and a short walk from my apartment to the stadium. Doak is definitely prepared to handle the kind of crowd they had with a plentiful amount of concessions offering very highly priced snacks and beverages. However, Doak does have a strict no alcohol policy. This negates the potential liability if intoxicated patrons create dangerous situations for themselves or others. This is especially true for the demographic around me. Since I was sitting in the student section, most of the people around me were between the ages of 18-22, loud, and had a lot of energy. This added to the already intense atmosphere surrounding the game. However, one downside to the student section is the prevalence of people who come to the game drunk. This creates an issue for crowd management. To deal with this, Doak employs numerous security members and sheriffs to control the crowd in case of disruptive people and/or …show more content…
The crowd was comprised of many different races and ethnicities who were brought together to form one social identity which exemplifies sport as a unifier. The diversity of the crowd definitely enhanced my experience as it felt more like the global game that the game of soccer is. From where I was sitting alone, I heard at least 4 non-English languages. I felt the Seminole Soccer Complex handled the event very well. Parking was free, convenient, and safe with a parking garage across from the complex. They had a fully equipped concession stand and the complex was ADA accessible with ramps and viewing areas for those in
Rhetorical Analysis of “As Bad as They Wanna Be” In a world of commercialization and advertisement, college sports usually provide a welcomed oasis from the furnace of money-hungry advertisers. This, however, may not be true forever. In the past few years, an increase in advertisements and deals between colleges and corporations has become noticeable. In the article “As Bad as They Wanna Be,” the author and speaker Thad Williamson effectively describes his concern for the UNC Tar Heels and the amount of commercialism and advertisement that is appearing around college sports.
With the growth of college sports in recent years has assisted the NCAA and universities in having increased revenues. Large fan bases provide an incredible amount of money through tickets and merchandise to universities. In chapter 43 of Richard Miller and Kelli Washington’s book titled, Sports Marketing 2014- 2015 stated:
UCLA’s intercollegiate athletics is NCAA Division I and are part of the Pac-12 Conference, being the only UC part of the Pac-12 besides Berkeley. They offer many men’s and women’s sports, though more women’s sports are offered, from basketball to water polo to cross country for men, and from gymnastics to rowing to volleyball for women. Their biggest rival is USC, as both schools are located in Los Angeles and the football game between UCLA and USC is known as one of the more important college rivalries. However, in recent years the UCLA football team has been lacking, and USC has won the two previous matchups. Currently, there is a lot of hype and expectation surrounding the men’s basketball programs, as the
With how many sporting events that there are in this country, it is common to see fans that love multiple games. Professional sports are typically favored by most followers, but there is a clear deficiency that hurts the leagues. Professional sports are exhilarating if one is a fan of a playoff team or especially a team that wins championships on a regular basis. While this is great for traditional powerhouses and teams with endless amounts of money, the majority of teams in these leagues serve as punching bags for years or even multiple decades. There is a fine line between these teams and other organizations that struggle just to make financial ends meet. Teams in financial
As many Americans know, the status of non-white Americans can be a gray area. Police brutality puts a spotlight on this gray area, with the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the use of media to promote differing perspectives. “Negrotown” takes the perspective against police brutality to another level by introducing a utopian-like community with only Black people. The viewer follows the main character around a fantasy environment before he realizes he’s still arrested in the real world. The comedic short film “Negrotown” by Key & Peele uses satire, specifically situational irony to highlight the discriminatory treatment of African-Americans in the criminal justice system.
As profits from college sports continuously surge each year, people fail to realize that the school's athletic program wouldn't be prosperous without the many achievements of its elite athletes. Athletes deserve the credit in how much publicity a school gets; has effects on the ticket sales and purchase of sports merchandise.
In today's media saturated culture, sports' programming has become a big business. The sporting industry, with annual revenues of over $100
The historical backdrop of college sports is the place Schools and College allows secondary school graduates to speak to their school in intercollegiate occasions like Football, Ball, golf, soccer, and so forth. The NCAA rank the 3 schools D1, D2, and D3. The NCAA is known as The National University Athletic Affiliation (NCAA) it is a non-profit organization which directs competitors of 1,281 establishments, meetings, and people. It likewise arranges the athletic projects of numerous schools and colleges in the U.S and Canada, and helps more than 450,000 undergrad competitors who contend yearly in school sports. The association is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2014, the NCAA produced very nearly a billion dollars in income
College Football and Basketball, millions of people tune in every weekend to watch the endless amount of towering athletes hitting each other for our amusement. To many people it is a break from ordinary life. A chance to come together and celebrate a tradition that has evolved over a period of time. For others, just the thought of living vicariously through athlete accomplishments on the field, can bring a sense of joy. The ideology of college sports has been passed down through generations, ever changing, to resemble what it is today. Encompassing and expanding a more diverse base of people that range from the casual to diehard fan. There are constant debates on whether student athletes are merely being used as puppets in the grand scheme of obtaining the almighty dollar.
The next factor involved in attending a sporting event is the overall atmosphere which to me is always the best at a college sporting event. While controversial, the Kansas State vs. Kansas game is notorious for a certain chant when the game rolls into Manhattan. Typically, towards the end of the second half of the game the song Sandstorm by Darude is played and a chant of “F*ck KU” rings out from the Kansas State student section. As I have many friends that go to school at K-State this chant is something all the students look forward to as I have even personally heard the chant at football games. While not respectful and flat out wrong, this chant is something that I consider a part of the rivalry. Some may have a very different view on this, but I believe things could be much

As there are many important variables in this decision process that are not under the direct control of the sports marketer such as the players performance or lack of competition in match, it is vital to ensure that fans enjoy a positive experience. It is necessary in an increasingly competitive and cluttered sporting landscape to strategically manage the variables that are under the control of sports marketers. It is essential to the sports marketer to understand which dimensions spectators perceive as important (Michael D. Clemes, 2011).
Marketing plans and strategies are an important part of almost any business today. One of the biggest industries marketing plans have benefited and changed in a number of different ways is the sports industry. The development of the sports marketing industry has led companies to invest millions of dollars to have their product associated with specific teams, players, and sporting events attempting to connect with consumer and create profit for both parties involved. The money involved in sports marketing calls for these sponsorships and endorsement decisions to be made both strategically and confidently. After researching the sports industry from a business perspective the importance of marketing decisions is
For SPM 493 – Venue & Event Management, we had to visit over ten different venues ever Thursday evening, so now it’s my turn to analyze one of these venues or a venue that I’ve visited in the past. Since I am a sport management major that obliviously mean that I’m a vivid sports fan. Also, I am a local to the Tampa Bay area so I’ve have visited many of these venues several times. For this assignment, I decided to go with the Amway Center which is the home of The Orlando Magic who is an American professional basketball team based in Orlando Florida, that have been around since 1989. The president is Alex Martins, Team manager is Rob Hennigan, Head coach is Frank Vogel, Ownership is RDB sports, Inc., where Richard DeVos is
Job analysis is a broad term commonly used to describe a wide variety of systematic procedures for examining, documenting, and drawing inferences about work activities, worker attributes, and work context (Siddique, 2004). In light of recent workplace changes that devalue traditional conceptions of rigidly defined jobs, the broader term, work analysis, is sometimes supported. However, there are three different types of job analysis and they are job requirements, competency based, and rewards (Siddique, 2004).
