Fsu-Clemon Sports Industry Analysis

Sports is unlike any other business, the product is highly unpredictable, which in turn can heavily impact the consumer’s thoughts and feelings. This means the event can be managed and facilitated perfectly, yet fans may still go home with negativity and disappointment depending upon the result on the field. The following is my consumer perspective for two FSU athletic events.
For my men’s event, I attended the FSU-Clemson football game, a match-up people marked on their calendars months in advance. It was a primetime game on ABC featuring a fierce ACC rivalry between No.3 Clemson and No.12 FSU. I had known about the event for a while because it was such a marquee home game. I noticed parking was an issue as I saw many people parking off to the side or roads and grassy areas on campus. However, this was not the case for me as I have a safe, convenient, and a short walk from my apartment to the stadium. Doak is definitely prepared to handle the kind of crowd they had with a plentiful amount of concessions offering very highly priced snacks and beverages. However, Doak does have a strict no alcohol policy. This negates the potential liability if intoxicated patrons create dangerous situations for themselves or others. This is especially true for the demographic around me. Since I was sitting in the student section, most of the people around me were between the ages of 18-22, loud, and had a lot of energy. This added to the already intense atmosphere surrounding the game. However, one downside to the student section is the prevalence of people who come to the game drunk. The crowd was comprised of many different races and ethnicities who were brought together to form one social identity which exemplifies sport as a unifier. The diversity of the crowd definitely enhanced my experience as it felt more like the global game that the game of soccer is. From where I was sitting alone, I heard at least 4 non-English languages. I felt the Seminole Soccer Complex handled the event very well. Parking was free, convenient, and safe with a parking garage across from the complex.
