Born a Prince, Left a King
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-air. These are the opening lines to the intro song of the television comedy “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, that me and every 90’s kids with a TV has had memorized since the day we first heard it. Even as you read that first sentence, you can’t help but to rap the words, and hum the tune as you envision a young Will Smith spinning on his royal chair with the graffiti background. The effect of the lyrics and the music video to this intro song goes way beyond pure entertainment value. The music video and lyrics spread happiness,

By making Will Smith appear like a typical, credible African American youth the appeal to the viewers is strengthened.
However, the stereotypes are not the only example for ethos in the music video. Will’s clothing and vernacular make a good case for ethical appeal as well. Throughout the video Will is dressed in loud bright colored clothing with various trendy accessories such as hats and sneakers. The clothing helps Will to appeal to the younger viewers because it’s something the viewers can identify with. Also Will’s upbeat tone and hipster lingo help his credibility of acting as an average young black male.
While ethos plays a large role in the appeal of the video, pathos plays a role equally as large. The pathological appeal in the music video is present from start to finish. The video opens with a background soundtrack of an upbeat rap tune. The tune is catchy and grabs the viewer’s attention immediately. Will Smith compliments the catchy beat by rapping an energetic rap. The rap itself demands for viewers’ attention because it appeals to their taste in music.
Whereas music is the main avenue of appeal in the video, there are other pathos elements present. While Will is playing basketball, the ball accidently hits a nearby thug who takes offense and physically confronts Will. The thug threatens and bullies Will until Will’s mom gets so scared for Will’s well-being that she sends him to live his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air. Nearly every kid in
The film utilises emotional appeals, or pathos, to convince its audience more so than probably any other technique. Perhaps the
In the first video, “Drunk History: Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks”, we observe the use of all three of aristotle’s rhetorical strategies: pathos, logos and ethos. According to Austin, logos is “appealing to logic and reasoning... [and is] an essential part of supporting an argument” (652). Logos is also established through the method of storytelling, with each transitioning to another and a clear method of organization of the information presented. Initially, I had argued that the video did not use ethos and in fact, opposed it. I came to this conclusion due to the drunken state of the narrators, which immediately discredited ethos for me, as ethos is an appeal to credibility. Austin stated that ethos refers to how an audience perceives
The most obvious rhetorical device present in the video is pathos. Pathos is an appeal to the sadness or emotions of the audience. The video maintains a somber or morbid tone from start to finish. That along with being filmed in black and white pressures the audience into feeling depressed. Watching the gang destroy the main character’s house really makes the audience fell very sympathetic.
People see movies to get a momentary escape from reality and be engaged in a fictional perfect world or other genres that may snatch their emotions. The emotions seen in the audience are created by using ethos, logos, and pathos throughout the movie. Ethos is what portrays the credibility throughout the film such as using famous actors or placing historically accurate scenes in the film. Logos is represented by the logical scenes throughout the film such as the fame of the film including its rating and awards or the historically accurate scenes representing the time the film was set in. Finally, pathos is what grabs the emotions of the audience from the dramatic scenes throughout the movie. In the movie Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis portrays ethos, logos, and pathos several times throughout the film to pull the audience in and leave them as if they were living in the film.
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Martin are two very common TV shows in the world today. The TV shows have been out since the 90s and are still up and running. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally aired in 1990 and shortly after Martin aired in 1992. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air focuses on their family whereas Martin focuses on himself, his wife, and their friends. These shows are funny and fun for the whole family which is why they’re so popular in today’s world. After each episode the writers never failed to show the viewers pros and cons of real life situations, important lessons learned, and the theme of the episode.
Slavery was first introduced in the United States in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619 and became an integral part of American society for many years. Ira Berlin says that “[A]ny attempt to address the question of race in the present must also address slavery in the past.” This in fact is true as we must be able to understand years and years of different viewpoints and ideas to come to an educated conclusion as to why it began and continued to exist. Racism is still a hot discussion topic in the modern world with constant reminders that there is still tension. The biggest reason racism is the way it is today is due to slavery and its conflict in the United States. The popular show Friday Night Lights has an episode in which race is addressed. One
Sustaining the ambitions of not only themselves but the alumni and town of Odessa, Texas is a lot to ask from a young adult. That’s exactly what Permian football provides to the people of Odessa, where the post economic boom of the oil business has left the town in a racially tense, economic crisis. The lights on Permian High School’s football field are the only sanctuary for the west Texas town. Socially and racially divided, Odessa’s mass dependence on high school football constructs glorified expectations for the football team to temporarily disguise the disappointments that come with living in a town tagged as the “murder capital” of

Music videos are often seen as the parts of the song’s story that an artist has trouble putting into words. Sometimes these details are unnoticeable at first glance, while some are essential to giving us vital information on what the song is actually about. Michael Jackson’s famous “Thriller” music video is often viewed as a Halloween binge watching classic, but judging by both the visual and audio components, it may be more than just a crowd of dancing zombies. There are quite a few moments throughout the video that can easily be seen as symbolisms of abuse, stalking, and rape/sex. By viewing the Thriller music video with this thought in mind, I hope to help you see the true evil lurking in the dark.
The use of ethos, logos, and pathos are included throughout the documentary. The use of ethos was shown when the they interviewed grown adults and taped LEGO seminars to show that people of all ages

A show about a seemingly normal family might not be a show that doesn't catch a lot of viewer's attention. I have to disagree because Family Guy is one of my favourite televsion shows, and i rarely watch TV. Family Guy is comedy based off a normal middle class family, but like all families they have their problems that can be very strange. I admire shows that are different than any other shows that are out there. I find the show to be very interesting for various reasons such as their use of stereotypes, violence, and its slight case of predictibility which is why I love the "Patriot Games" episode.
Claim: Forman claims that racial profiling is an ineffective way to enforce the law and should be stopped.
Family guy is a dysfunctional family that lives in Quahog, Rhode Island. The parents: Peter and Lois. The children: the oldest, Meg, the middle child, Chris and the baby is Stewie. Last but not least, the dog Brian. This TV show exhibits crude, adult humour. There are many different opinions on this show, many parents are ok with letting there children watch it and other refuse to do so because of the kind of humour some parents are on edge. So is family guy a negative influence on children? I believe it does have a negative influence on kids. To start the language they use, secondly the violence and actions towards each other and
Is High School football a sport, or is it more than that to some people? Recent newspaper headlines include such items as coaches abusing student athletes; fathers of athletes murdering coaches, and mother’s disabilitating cheerleading candidates to assure their daughters make the cheerleading team. In Odessa, Texas high school football is a major contributor to the society of a small town in Texas society. Every Friday night, 50,000 people fill the stadium to see high school students put their lives on the line to win a football game. H. G. Bissinger writes a novel called Friday Night Lights, about a year in 1988 where High School players prepare and play on the High School team, and what an impact they have
