The Freedom Writers story was a cause of a new beginning for all those who felt no hope. It all began with the Rodney King Riot, following over 120 murders located in Long Beach, California. This slowly started developing as a war between all the people who felt that they had to be against each other to protect their own. Following it by teenagers who felt they had to do the same to be safe. Living in war for the ones they had to protect was how they believed their life was going to be until their last day. We all face different and difficult obstacles in our lives. Many of those types of situations can affect our education. As we see and read about the Freedom Writers’ Diaries we can acknowledge that each individual faces in his/hers life involving racism, gang …show more content…
The movie shows differences like for example, in the movie Eva and her boyfriend are walking and then being chased by some gang members. As for the book they were getting off the bus and seen some guys with guns that begin to run. Another thing is that Ms. Gruwell is married and then gets divorced in the movie but in the book they never mentioned any part of her life. In the beginning of the movie Eva begins making it contradict the book as it begins with Ms. Gurwell explaining what’s like for all those students who had a tough life. Needless to say I can honestly say I like both the book and the movie because the movie gives detail and shows what we would like to know. As for the book we can read and follow more in debt about how each of those students lived their life day by day. Not knowing if they would ever be able to get back home without getting shot. Overall, I love the movie and the book for showing two different sides with slightly different perspectives and some few details off. Other than that both show how much they fought to become a success and not give up on their
Comparing the book to the movie you can clearly tell what certain things are different. For example, Sydelle Pulaski worked for Mr. Westing in the movie but only talked over the intercom. This not only caused a lot of drama but more depth to the plot. Also, Crow didn’t go to jail but they did talk about most of the consequences of her going to jail. This made a little bit more serious and emotional instead of just letting it go.
Although the book has more information to the story, I like the movie better. The movie has a better storyline because in the book Angus has two homosexual parents that eventually end up getting a divorce because both parents leave each other for another partner of the same sex. In the movie, the dad left the family a while back and Angus is left with a single mother and his grandfather, who lives with them. The grandfather in the movie basically is the father figure for
Both the book and the movie are great, but there are some major differences that separate the book from the movie. It seems that they
There were a lot differences between the book and the movie. The movie started off with Melanie in the bird store, and Mitch went in there to investigate her for a case. The book started off with Nat on a farm describing how that years weather had been different. In the book the main guy character had a wife and kids. In the movie the main guy character was not married, but had a mom and
The movie and novel were both really good, but they just had some differences. For example, the format was different because when your reading a novel you have to make your own visual picture on what is happening and make up what you think the characters are like. While watching a movie the creators
In the book, there are many chapters that help the reader get to know the characters better. This is done not by telling the reader about the character, but through events that the characters go through. Another thing was that I felt like the book had more emotion, but I think this was because I had gotten to know the characters in the book better than I did in the movie. The book is also narrated from Scout’s perspective, while the movie is not. This changes the feel of the story, making the movie feel a little bit less personal than the book.
Freedom Writers is a movie based on the book The Freedom Writers Diary by teacher Erin Gruwell. The movie was directed by Richard LaGravenese and it was released in 2007. This movie discusses significant themes such as stereotyping and racial discrimination but most important the power of tolerance and understanding. The purpose of this movie is to promote the message that knowledge is power and in a world filled with disparities where hundreds of ethnic groups convey and interact humans are obliged to accept and tolerate the differences that define each person. This film is a perfect example of how these rhetorical components are used to create an effective argument. The director of the movie as well as the characters build their
Gruwell got approve that she could take her student to a field trip she took them to this fancy place to learn about art and history. People talking to her students in person about want happen to them. The students were surprised because they never seen something fancy or they've never really been in a nice place because nobody really believed in her students, but Ms. Gruwell she believed that her student could succeed and she would show the other teachers wrong. I think the movie is way better than the book; because in the movie it shows you more than what the book is telling you, and it gives you more details about Ms. Gruwell life and a little bit more about her students life too. In the book it does not say that she gets a divorce with her husband or that she even talks about him.
In the movie they show her living with her husband and doing things with her father. In the book it shows more of the perspective of the kids and what’s happening in their life. In the perspective in the movie it starts off with News reports about long beach and how there’s riots and gang members also how tention reach an all time high. Eva’s diary entry, Eva starts off the movie with her diary and she talks
Books that are made into movies often don’t stay true along the written words. You can’t really compare and contrast them because it would be desecrating the movie and book because they both might be satisfied no matter who was the characters behind them. A book that was made into a movie called , “The Member Of the Wedding Summary” . It Is a really good book and movie, but there are something different and the same about them and the main character who plays in both called Frankie.
One way the book is different is the way Dave Isay play a major part in the kids live in the movie so you see the impact he has on them and the up and down with the documentary Ghetto Life 101. You don’t see that with the book because you only get Dave Isay point of view on the five pages unlike the movie where he in their live constantly. Also the part where Lloyd the part when Lloyd got beat up when his father cheated in a game of pool. That
“Everybody thinks you should be happy just because you’re young. They don’t see the wars that we fight every single day”. Brandy Ross, one of the students in the movie Freedom Writers once said. This is the predicament that the students in Woodrow Wilson High School faced every day. There are dead bodies on the street, the students have to protect themselves from other gangs, and most of them didn’t finish high school. It might not be a big issue for us because we didn’t face it by ourselves, but after watching this movie you will know that it is a significant thing to look at. The differences among race caused all of these problems, to deal with this is not easy at all. Freedom Writers show us that we can live our life with distinction because it shows us how to understand and accept dissimilarity that we have and also to
They were stories of broken and dysfunctional homes, being kicked out of the house for being part of a gang, to being beaten up just because they were different. Reading these journals Mrs. “G” realized how similar each student’s stories were no matter the race, ethnicity or gender. Even though the students did not see eye to eye, they all had many things in common: they were all in gangs; they each had their own stories to tell; each student has dealt with the shooting of a friend, each student want to communicate to others, and each student wanted to be respected.
One reason I liked the book better is because I could understand the tessering concept better in the book than in the movie. It explained it more in the book than in the movie. In the movie it kind of just immediately talked about it for a minute and continued, in the book it takes a whole chapter to explain the concept of tessering. So it was harder to understand tessering in the movie.
The film Freedom Writers directed by Richard La Gravenese is an American film based on the story of a dedicated and idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires and teaches her class of belligerent students that there is hope for a life outside gang violence and death. Through unconventional teaching methods and devotion, Erin eventually teaches her pupils to appreciate and desire a proper education. The film itself inquiries into several concepts regarding significant and polemical matters, such as: acceptance, racial conflict, bravery, trust and respect. Perhaps one of the more concentrated concepts of the film, which is not listed above, is the importance and worth of education. This notion is
