LEADERSHIP DEFINITIONS
A leader is a person who possesses most of the attractive and wanted behaviors of the personality (Bingham, 1927).
Leadership is the unequal distribution of power so that one person can control the actions (Fiedler, 1967).
A definition by Bass 1997 that covers the majority of diverse definitions surrounding the construct of leadership states that: “Leadership is taken as the center of group process, subject of personality, as a matter of inducing compliance, as the exercise of control, as particular behaviors, as a form of influence, as a power relation, as an instrument to achieve goals, as an outcome of dealings, as a differentiated role, as a start of an arrangement, and as many blend of stated definition” as cited in (Begum, Jan, & Khan, 2013).
LEADERSHIP THEORIES
1. TRAIT THEORY
According to Bass, 1990; Jago, 1982 the Trait approach was the first attempt to study leadership. In the start of 20 century leadership traits were studied in order to know that what made some people leaders. According to this approach it was supposed that people who have those leadership

This model proposed that effective group performance depends on the relation between leader’s style and control or influence on the situation. This theory focused that there are some leadership styles which are suitable for some situations. The main point was to define those styles and situation and the other main point was to identify the combinations of style and situation. Fiedler proposed the style as key element. So the style can be task oriented or it can be relationship oriented so least preferred coworker questionnaire was used to measure style. This questionnaire contained 18 pairs of contrasting adjective on scale of 1 to 8. Fiedler admits that some may fall in between those extremes and another thing Fiedler assumed was the fixed style of leader in all situations (Robbins,Coulter& Vohra,

The definition of "leadership" as defined in Wikipedia means "the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others."
According to dictionary.com leadership is defined as, the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or directs a group: Its synonyms include guidance, influence, control, direction and supervision. These are all qualifications that are needed to be an effective leader. All characteristics are not necessarily needed at the same time and do no need to be used for each subordinate. This paper will identify my personal leadership philosophy along with theories to support my leadership style.
There are many ways to define leadership, but perhaps the most laconic as well as accurate definition is presented in Peter G. Northouse's Leadership: Theory and Practice book (Northouse, 2013, p.5): "Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal". Individuals, engaged in leadership, use influence to solve challenges, which the groups under their leadership face, in order to succeed in their common goals.
One definition of leadership states that it is a process by which a group is influenced and directed by a particular member of the group to reach a common goal (Northouse 2010). Many other definitions exist, suggesting that it is a concept as fluid and individual as leaders themselves (Curtis et al. 2011).
There are so many definitions of leadership and it is difficult to establish a specific definition;
In my opinion the term leadership is a very broad and various definitions are given by authors. One definition of leadership is that it is
Leadership is defined in many different ways by many different academics and professionals. A few words that resonate with the meaning include management, control, guidance, headship, direction and governance. My basic definition for the word describes it as a technique used to manage and guide individuals or groups of individuals in a specific direction to achieve a common goal. However this is a bit too basic for my liking. While conducting the research for this manifesto I found two definitions that I thought were more interesting and quite charming. Tom Landry defines leadership as “getting someone to do what they don’t want to do, to achieve what they want to achieve” (Murphy, 2010). Alternatively Otto Scharmer stated, “at its core, leadership is about shaping and shifting how individuals and groups attend and subsequently respond to a situation” (Scharmer, 2007).
Leadership theories are attempts to answer some of the question people have about leadership. These theories range from simple “armchair philosophies” about the personal characteristics and effect relationship between leaders and followers and situations.
LEADERSHIP- THE POSITION OR FUNCTION OF A LEADER, A PERSON WHO GUIDES OR DIRECTS A GROUP.
Leadership is when a person motivates, inspires, encourages, and directs activates that will lead to reaching goals (Jones and George, 2013). Being a leader is an important role, one can be a leader at their job, and in their home life.
Leadership is a difficult word to define and according to the Miriam-Webster Dictionary leadership is the “office or position of a leader” (Miriam-Webster, 2010). This definition is definitely not one that I would ascribe to when discussing leadership. My definition of leadership is “the ability someone has to motivate and empower others to achieve a goal.” Some may add to this definition, others may discard it altogether and have a completely different definition. In the end, leadership takes on many different forms depending on who is doing the defining and we end up asking ourselves, what is leadership and why do we care?
The trait leadership theory focuses on the individual leader’s personal characteristics as the basis of its investigations. It is one of the earliest leadership theories upon whose tenets many researches on leadership have been done. Although it is not very coherent, its heuristic nature has contributed to its significance in leadership research. Zaccaro and Klimoski (2002) define traits of reference to leadership as the stable personality characteristics, which result in a consistent leadership performance pattern, given different scenarios and groups. They include individual personalities, temperament, rationale, prowess, as well as cognitive abilities. Initially, the theory explored both physical and psychological characteristics that tell apart leaders from non-leaders.
There are certain essential elements that constitute the definition of leadership. It may refer to the totality of an organization’s top direction-giving functionaries, or the actions applied in providing direction that enables the organization or team to move forward towards a goal. In reality, there are very diverse definitions of leadership depending on
