LEADERSHIP DEFINITIONS
A leader is a person who possesses most of the attractive and wanted behaviors of the personality (Bingham, 1927).
Leadership is the unequal distribution of power so that one person can control the actions (Fiedler, 1967).
A definition by Bass 1997 that covers the majority of diverse definitions surrounding the construct of leadership states that: “Leadership is taken as the center of group process, subject of personality, as a matter of inducing compliance, as the exercise of control, as particular behaviors, as a form of influence, as a power relation, as an instrument to achieve goals, as an outcome of dealings, as a differentiated role, as a start of an arrangement, and as many blend of stated definition” as cited in (Begum, Jan, & Khan, 2013).

According to Bass, 1990; Jago, 1982 the Trait approach was the first attempt to study leadership. This model proposed that effective group performance depends on the relation between leader’s style and control or influence on the situation. This theory focused that there are some leadership styles which are suitable for some situations. The main point was to define those styles and situation and the other main point was to identify the combinations of style and situation. Fiedler proposed the style as key element. So the style can be task oriented or it can be relationship oriented so least preferred coworker questionnaire was used to measure style. This questionnaire contained 18 pairs of contrasting adjective on scale of 1 to 8.
