Franciscan Tradition: Serving the community is one of the core values of the Franciscan Tradition, likewise it is equally important to the fire department. With dependence on Our Lord for guidance, the department will endeavor to serve all people with love, compassion, respect, and integrity. As a result, the department is often found educating the community in fire safety, specifically conducting fire drills, and delivering and installing smoke detectors to those in need. The department’s “Get Out Alive” initiative on instructing on how to make egress in case of a fire, becomes more beneficial when the driver is experiencing problems at the pump. The fire service serves every community, for all are God’s children, with love and compassion
To better understand the background of the contrasting views, we must look at how the fire service has developed around
Many department, including BCoFD, are looking for different solutions to help fix this tissue. The goal of this research project is to conduct a needs assessment and provide recommendations to the Baltimore County Fire Department for an outline of a curriculum for a CP course based off the findings of the needs assessment. Extant data was collected by using inclusion and exclusion criteria requirements in the data collection tools from both ImageTrend and National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFRIS) for non-emergency calls. In 2014, BCoFD initiated a specific policy for non-emergency responses that was collected through EMED reports in ImageTrend. During that year, the number of Non-Emergency Responses came to 8,590. In 2016, non-emergency responses came to a total of 12,102, almost 3,500 calls more from 2014. As of March 30th, 2017, the total non-emergency call responses were at 3,615 and continuing to grow. Not only non-emergency calls are climbing, but the total call volume for BCoFD is increasing more and more each year. Since 2013, there has been an average of 5,705 increase calls each
As with most fire departments, medical emergencies account for the majority of the call volume for the District. However, a full complement of services including fire, medical, technical rescue, wildland suppression, hazardous material, fire inspection, fire investigation, code enforcement, public education, CPR classes, and various public services are offered by the District ("GRFD," 2015).
The Franciscan values are a great foundation for everyone to base their lives on. The first and third Franciscan values are very important to me. Saint Francis and Clare truly embody these two values. They’re something I strive to incorporate throughout my life as well. There are numerous connections I can make between these values, and Francis and Clare, my life, and my community service.
The days of fire departments only responding to structure fires is a distant memory. The dynamic economy and increasing customer expectations demand fire departments be more versatile by offering more services and provide excellent customer service. To meet these new requirements for more services, most fire departments now offer a variety of services ranging from fire station tours and blood pressure checks to building inspections and smoke detector battery changes. These additional services greatly enhance a fire department’s presence within a community and provide numerous opportunities for citizens to interact with the fire department. One of the easiest means for customers to learn a fire department is through the
The need and the solution to this problem is to conduct a “transformation’ of sorts on the “Ideology” of the Fire Station. “The term transformation highlights how local social movements attempt to “effect large-scale, collective changes in the domains of state policy, corporate practice, social structure, cultural norms, and daily lived experience”. (2010) While “the term ideology refers to our basic, often unexamined, assumptions about how things are or ought to be”. (2010) By working with the firefighters and reestablishing roles in the fire house, the Fire Chief will be able to effect change on a large scale throughout the house, thus allowing the day to day
The mission of the Englewood Fire Department is to work round the clock to protect the public from fire related incidents and to prevent these incidents from happening again. One way they try to prevent these incidents is the fire chief always checks the plans of any new buildings being built for any fire related dangers and proper placement of any fire safety tools which after he is done sends to the building inspectors for their evaluation. They also try to spread the message of fire safety to the community by going to places such as schools and educating them on how to prevent fires and how to survive them.
While all emergency service responders put their lives on the line every day, the organization that faces the most risks are firefighters. As the Association for Psychological Sciences notes, firefighters deal with “Perilous flames, collapsing buildings, the anguish of burn victims” in addition to “[e]xplosions, automobile accidents, suicide attempts. Even terrorist attacks, dismemberment and death.” (citation from psych.org) Their courage, resiliency, and strength led me to choose to research the world of firefighting for this assignment. For my paper, I decided to interview my uncle, Brendan Stoner, who was a forest firefighter during the summers of the 1990’s in Utah County. I decided to research firefighting to get another perspective
The San Jose Fire Department has about 33 fire stations and responds to over 74 thousand fires each year. The fire
Residents close to the fire department may dispute the allocation of resources to the county. The loss of city control and dependence on services through the county could potentially have a negative impact on city wide perception as a service provider. This proposal would transform the way fire and EMS has historically been conducted and the traditions of a proud segment of the population. Prominent residents are closely linked to the fire department and like the police department, both play important roles within the government and the
Briefly we now have discovered a lot about the fire department, who started it, who was supporting the idea and gave it funding. Also we have learned a little about the background history and how it was growing over the years. Moreover, we learned the roles of the fire department and how their goal not only putting out fire but also rescuing citizens, animals and any attack that comes to the
After visiting some actual fire departments, I realized as a firefighter you certainly have a lot to be proud of. It’s not your average job and does require quite a bit of organization to stay on top of everything. Everyday you have to be ready and prepared for just about anything that can happen. You never know what kinds
The state of Delaware fire service relies on volunteers and career staff, to get the emergency equipment to the scene. All volunteers are individuals who give up their personal time to assist the public, and these dedicated, trained professionals abandon everything to respond an alarm. Fire Stations in Delaware employ full and part time staff to make sure the community has complete coverage when an emergency occurs. Fire and EMS alarms are never identical and volunteer, along with paid staff put their life on the line on every
Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a standard in today’s fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very
Firefighters are the men that allow us to not worry about burning down the town on the 4th of july, or allow us to cook things in a massive kitchen without losing the entire building.“You go, we go”. That's a famous phrase used by firefighters before going into iminate danger and to show similarities of how fire fighters are like local heros like soldiers(Howard). Fire fighters engage themselves in tough and dangerous work to help the community around them. Anytime there is a car accident, a sick person in need of advanced life support, or anything that has to deal with fires, they must respond to at moments notice. Even though firefighters save people's lives daily, that is not what they do on a day by day basis. They are fathers, husbands and sons. It takes mental toughness and true passion to be good at this profession. Firefighters are some of the most selfless public servants you will ever encounter(Platt). Overall, they are great people. Being able to trace how a fire started and what method to put them out to understanding the legal rules you are given by working for the government. To understanding how to equip and use all the equipment even when they are getting more advanced day by day. Overall, firefighters just give us that extra bit of feeling safe when things go wrong.
