One shivery shadowy December night at my football game, my friend and I got into a ferocious fight that I still remember to this day. It was on the football field where my friend Andrew traded words that I would never forget. A ghastly fight that I never thought would happen to me and my friend Andrew. It was time to go on to the field for the kickoff. Andrew was set and so was I on the opposite of the field. The ball was up and we took off to try to tackle the other team when we connected. Andrew said some words that would never come out of his mouth to me. That's when I decided I wasn't going to take that from him and I was going to do something about later that night on the field. It was later when it happened and I never thought what I did would be so dreadful. Blake and Kyle decided they would be in it too. About an hour later it was halftime of the game. Andrew and I was still not talking …show more content…
We were losing badly, but we still had time to come back into this one. On top of that I and Andrew were still not speaking. It was about time for me to start thinking about how I was going to go back at him expeditious. So the next play we had the ball and he was coming around and I hit him as hard as I could. I didn't know that he was supposed to be blocking a person, so the person got away and caused a fumble. That fumble caused us the game and it was all my fault. On top of that me and Andrews fight became repulsive and lasted for days after. After the game, we were having a team huddle and somehow me and Andrew ended up beside each other. I decided to apologize for what I had done and he didn't forgive me what I had done to him.The day after we were at school and he finally decided to forgive me and we made up. To this day I will never do what I did and I will forgive them for whatever they did. I hope my friend and I will never have a fight as gruesome as it was that
Now i knew the kid my brother had gotten hurt by was still on the team and this year he was a senior captain. He was 152 and i was a 160 pounder. I couldn't wait to see our captain go against him because i knew it would be a great match. We were losing throughout our lighter weights and i was coming up at 160. I was pretty confident i was going to have an easy match but when their 152 pounder didn't go out for that weight i got a little nervous because i knew i would face him. I went out against him and the whole first period there was no score. He chose bottom the next period and immediately got a reversal on me and it was 2-0 close to the end of the second i was able to get a reversal but got up and got one right away. Going into the third he was up by 1. The third period started and 20 seconds into it i got a reversal and was up 4-3. Riding someone out for over a minute is a tough task and with 30 seconds left he got a reversal and a point for me locking hands. The score was now 6-4 and i had short time to tie it up. We started back in the middle and i went to stand up as fast i could, he dropped me back down to the mat but i caught an ankle and came up on top of him
Looking back, I’m able to realize how petty my response to the incident was, but at the time, I felt it was justified. Unfortunately, I continued to hold my friend accountable for what he said to me, long after my anger had subsided, and we didn’t really speak much for nearly a year. After about a year of holding this grudge against my friend, we both made up with each other, but I still regret not having made up with him sooner, as the grudge was petty and could have been resolved easily.
That next day we went out to recess we played rugby. Tyler F was running with the ball he tries to throw it in the end zone but I blindsided him. He started
One of the things that makes me the happiest in life is football. I have been fascinated by the game ever since I was a kid. I remember playing catch with my dad every day during the summer. Me, my dad, and my brothers would play catch all day long. Literally from when we woke up until we had to go inside and eat dinner. It was the greatest time of my life.
My hands were sweating, my feet were tapping , and my heart was throbbing all because of this one game. It was a Tuesday afternoon in route to my baseball game. The team and I were all in the bus talking about their predictions for our upcoming game. Not one person predicted us to win, all of us knew Newark Catholic was really good and we figured we didn’t have shot. We were a mediocre team preparing to play an excellent team, the odds were definitely against us. On the way to every away game, our team does each other’s eye black. Once we got done with each other’s eye black I sat back in my seat and kept to myself the rest of the way. All I could think about was about how good I was going to do and if I would prove myself to everyone. I finally
As we all stood out on the field warming up, I could just feel the butterflies building up in my stomach. As we went ut for the coin toss, the butterflies went away and it was time for action. We won the toss and chose to kickoff. As we stood out there waiting to run down and make the tackle, adrenaline took over my body. I felt as if nothing could hurt me. On defense, I played cornerback. I was so anxious for a play to come to my side so I could be in on the tackle. Finally the running back broke out to my side and it was time to shine. As I ran toward him as fast as I could, I knew I couldn’t miss the tackle or they would score a touchdown. When I finally got to him I dove in for the tackle, and the next thing I knew I heard a loud pop, and I laid on the ground in tremendous pain. Both my ankle and my knee popped. As I tried to limp off the field, each step on my left leg sent shooting pain up my left leg. I hobbled over to the bench and the trainer took a look at it. As he examined my knee I told him, “Nothing hurts, I think I just rolled my ankle.” In order to be safe he wrapped up my knee and taped my ankle and I was back out onto the field for the rest of the
When I left school that beautiful Spring day, I had no idea what was in store for me. After another long and boring day, I happily walked out the building and was searching for my dad’s car. He was parked on the edge of the street and told me to hop in the backseat. He looked at me and said that he has a surprise for me. I was extremely excited.
The most recent challenge that I had to face actually happened last week. Me and a few Standout club members were arriving to football practice a little bit late on Tuesday. When we made it to the practice field our head called a team huddle. All the players gathered around, took a knee, and focused their attention to coach. Coach looks around and says “For all you guys going to Bible study is gonna have to make a choice”. Hold on, let’s stop right there, I am going to give some history on how this tension built up. Two years ago, my friend Matt started at bible study group called stand out. Every Tuesday Matt would have a bible study starting right after school at 3:15. Every Tuesday me and a couple of football players would go. The only
We were staying in Pasadena for the nights of the 31st, 1st and 2nd. When we finally got to our hotel in Pasadena we checked in and went to eat at C & O Trattoria. It was a small outdoor seating only Italian restaurant. I got the chicken parmesan. The next day was the Rose Bowl so we went back to the hotel and went to bed. The next day we got up at about 7am and left. We arrived at the Rose Bowl around 9am and started tailgating. We tailgated with some of my dad's old friends from college. When we finally made it into the Rose Bowl, we got to our seats and Stanford got a touchdown almost instantly. Then another one, and another one. The Iowa fans were vocally and physically angry. The end score was 45 Stanford, 16 Iowa. As we left the stadium you could tell Iowa fans were not going to take lightly to
Once they finally arrived, we started playing an actual game of two hand touch football, I had both my cousins on my team, both being known for not being good at throwing. But since I didn’t want to throw, I let them, but that was a big mistake. The ball was pleading to be put out of his misery. every time he threw a ball, It would almost get picked off or it almost shattered a car window. “You suck Kevin” I said. We were starting to fall behind in our scoring, and that’s when we decided fire my cousin and my other cousin started throwing. He was a big improvement, but he still wasn’t very good at it, He completed some passes but was still missing most of them. With him at qb we were put at a 3 touchdown game. The game was winding down, we were playing good, making short passes and some deep ones, but we needed an all out hail mary to win the game. So we did it, I sprinted as fast as I could toward the end zone, not looking back until the last moment, but when I looked back my cousin had thrown it way too far for me to catch, but then I saw it
I remember back in sophomore year, Brayton, Andre and I had volunteered to help put chairs away. We were in study hall at the time, so we all walked down to the choir room and started. Now the whole time we were shoving each other and messing around. Well, after we had finished putting chairs away, the bell rang to go to the next class. So like good students, we walked through the crowded halls, still pushing and shoving, when all of a sudden Brayton shoves me super extremely hard. I flew straight into one of the pillars and the whole thing collapsed. At the time this event was hilarious. Looking back now its still really
The summer of 2008 I spent most of my time with my three friends Josh, Jalen, and Carson. We would bike, wrestle, explore the woods on the fourwheeler and much more to keep ourselves occupied. However, on one chilly day our playfulness created something so bad I could not own up to it.
The parched summer of my sophomore year really isn't something I want to experience again. During this summer my schedule was strictly football and when you mix football practices, weightlifting and two-a-days along with scorching hot days, it really takes a toll on your body. Everyday during practices I felt as if oceans of sweat were pouring out of me as we ran in full pads up the hill which felt as if we were running directly vertical toward the sun. It wasn't just the running that took a toll on my teammates and I, it also had to do with the countless number of drills and scrimmages which equally took the lives right out of us. The only time of practices my teammates and I looked forward to was the end. There was always kids rushing across the field with the remaining energy they had left and heading right for the semi air conditioned school where it could provide us some sort of cool air. The only way we could describe ourselves when we would sprint across the field is like a kid just entering a candy store and rushing over to grab his or hers favorite candy. Once the very crammed summer jam packed full of practices, weightlifting and two-a-days were over I knew that I had become better as a football player and knew all the hard work I put in during the running, drills and practices were paying off.
Before my first day of my 11th grade year, it was the first day of practice for the football season with full equipment on, and I had been anxiously waiting for it. The sun was out and it was a great day to practice. After warm-ups and exercises were complete our Head Coach told us to prepare for a tackling drill. I didn’t want to wait so I was the first one up to go. Coach blew the whistle..."fee-bee!" As I approached my teammate we made helmet to helmet contact. My body immediately became paralyzed and I couldn’t control myself from falling face first into the turf. It felt like my life flashed before my eyes. I remember the coaches and players shouting my name, but the sound was unclear. I tried moving but my body just wasn’t responding.
It was the quarter finals to go to semis, and we were all excited especially me since it was my second year playing soccer. We all got into the field and put on our gear. We finished putting on our gear and got on the field, there was 10 of us on the team since it was a 5v5 tournament. We were standing waiting for the ref to blow the whistle since the other team barely got on time. As soon as the team finished getting on the field, the ref blew the whistle and the game began. We started the
