The Serial is an interesting audio podcast that is hosted by a journalist named Sarah Koenig. Sarah tells the story in a form of a reporter, in which she explains the murder case that occurred in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1999, Hae Min Lee, a popular high-school senior, was disappeared after school one day. After six weeks, a jury convicted Adnan Syed, Hae’s ex-boyfriend, for her murder. Adnan stands firm on the fact that he is innocent and he has nothing to do with Hae’s murder case. Due to the lack of true evidence people are starting to question whether Adnan was falsely accused of the murder. I personally think Adnan is innocent. Adnan and Hae went to the same school and they started going out in their junior year. Adnan was born in United …show more content…
Jay was a friend of Adnan's. They'd been in school together since middle school. They weren't super close, but they had mutual friends. Jay sold weed, and he and Adnan smoked together. Jay testified that Adnan called Jay at 2:36 pm saying, “That bitch is dead. Come and get me. I'm at Best Buy”. The state used Jay’s story of what happened on the day Hae disappeared to prosecute Adnan. But Jay tells two different versions of the same story for each taped interview. Jay’s testimony was full of inconsistency. On the first interview jay said he refused to help Adnan dig a grace for Hae’s body. But on the second interview he said they both dug the grave. In the first taped interview, Jay says Adnan only told him that same day that he was going to kill Hae. The second interview, Jay says that Adnan had started talking about it for four or five days. On the first interview, Jay says Adnan asked him to pick Adnan up at Edmondson Avenue after killing Hae. But on the second interview, the location changed to Best Buy. Jay kept changing his story every time and there is no evidence to prove that he is right. So it is a little stupid of the State to prosecute Adnan based on only Jay’s testimony. But Jay did have one big piece of reliable information, he knew where Hae’s car was and took the police there. But for the second interview, Jay signs his initials to an official …show more content…
Asia writes a letter to Adnan, “Dear Adnan-- I hope I spelled it right. I'm not sure if you remember talking to me in the library on January 13, but I remember chatting with you. We aren't really close friends, but I want you to look into my eyes and tell me of your innocence. If I ever find otherwise, I will hunt you down and whip your ass. OK, friend? My boyfriend and his best friend remember seeing you there, too.” Asia and her boyfriend saw Adnan in the library 2:15 to 3:15 pm. It is completely not fair that the State only went with Jay’s story and did not even look into other aspects of the case. Asia and her boyfriend was definitely worth questioning. Summer, a friend of Hae’s says that it is impossible that Hae was murdered at 2:36 pm because Hae was with summer during that time. Summer had a conversion with Hae after school and remembers that Hae was still in school until 3pm. Debbie Warren and Becky, friends of Hae, remembers seeing Hae around 3pm near the school gym. So the State is wrong about Hae being killed at 2:36 pm and Jay’s story falls apart without a proper
Adnan Syed was a golden boy to people; he was smart and loved by everyone. He never thought he’d be convicted of his ex-girlfriend’s murder, neither did anyone else. In fact, when he first received a call from the cops regarding Hae’s disappearance he brushed it off, more scared at that fact that he was high on marijuana and talking to a police officer. He thought Hae had just ran off to California, just like everyone else. However, when they found her body in a park notorious for being a body dump his whole world turned upside down. Soon after this a friend of his, Jay, confessed to the police into helping Adnan with Hae’s murder which then put Adnan behind bars. However, was Jay’s testimony true? Unfortunately Adnan’s case has many flaws and lies to it, and the true answer still remains; is Adnan Syed actually innocent or guilty all along?
Anyways they should’ve never put Adnan in jail without having the evidence needed “So this is an email, in 2008, from the Baltimore Police, saying that he believes items from this case have been destroyed, but he doesn’t have a document saying that that is true. So he can’t be 100% sure” - Deirdre Enright (ep.7), you can't destroy evidence unless the case is over, this is another big part of why I think the state was doing something dirty and making Adnan look like the killer there’s also something they did not pay attention to the calls. The cell phone calls that didn't match as Jay Wilds tells the story some of the phone calls don't really match that also very suspicious and he seems to change the story
Adnan Syed is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, and various factors present him as a very likely suspect. Information put together by the state don’t add up, but instead prove he is innocent. Is Adnan guilty or innocent for his ex-girlfriend’s death? In the Serial Podcast, journalist Sarah Koenig discusses the case, committed almost seventeen years ago, and uncovers new evidence that indicates Adnan’s innocence. Adnan Syed has been viewed as a boyfriend, honor roll student, and a murderer. Many described him as a smart, flirtatious, and a likable high schooler. On January 13, 1999, his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, was murdered. Investigators immediately assumed Adnan as the primary suspect because Hae had broken up with him, a month
The case of Hae Min Lee was originally only prominent within Baltimore County of Maryland. It has the trappings of a typical high school murder; a teen is angry at their ex-boyfriend/girlfriend for breaking up with them and as a result, would murder them. However, the case has gained international attention largely due to the investigations from Serial, which revealed an abnormal number of inconsistencies within the case against Adnan Syed. Eventually, this attention culminated into the granting of a new trial for Adnan. Adnan is most likely guilty because of circumstantial evidence that demonstrate Adnan’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. After all, the use of circumstantial evidence is valid if a reasonable argument can be created. Although,
The podcast Serial, hosted by Sarah Koenig, follows the riveting murder mystery of Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School who was admired by many. The prime suspect was her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, with whom she had broken up prior to her death. Throughout the series, Koenig analyzed court transcripts and investigated the prosecution’s evidence in order to determine whether or not Syed’s incarceration was justified. Due to the absence of firm evidence and the numerous inconsistencies in the state’s allegations, Adnan Syed is not guilty in the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.
Based on information provided by Sarah Koenig's podcast, Serial, for murdering Hae Min Lee, Adnan Syed shouldn't be calumniated. The 3 accounts are; if he murdered Hae he'd look back on the details from that day, Adnan parked Hae's car, as claimed by Jay, but he didn't remember that, and Sarah and her friend driving by the day Jay adumbrated.
Serial: The Murder Of Hae Min Lee The death of a teenager can shock the community and the pieces that are gathered could prove someone guilty. In the podcast series, the host Sarah Koeing dives deep into the very skeptical and questionable case of the death of Hae Min Lee, with possible accusations pointed at her ex-boyfriend Adnan, a high schooler. Adnan is the one to blame for the death of Hae Min Lee. Adnan is guilty of the murder and deserves the time in prison that he gets.
Jay's stories and claims about timing, location, and events seem to always conflict one another. Jay gave three completely different stories to the police, and if you put Syed’s phone call records and match them up with Jay’s stories, they don’t add up. The first piece of Jay’s story that leads to believe Syed is not guilty, is that Jay claims Lee was killed in the Best Buy parking lot just before 2:36 pm. The problem with this is that multiple witnesses say they saw Lee in school well after this supposed murder time. For example, Summer, one of Lee’s good friends, says she spoke with Lee after school was over. Summer says they spoke about attending the wrestling match later that afternoon. Adding on to the witness’s sides of the story was Jenn, a close friend of Jay. She says Jay showed up to her house, unannounced, and was acting more energetic than the usual, laid-back stoner Jay. The next part of Jay’s story that did not make sense, was that he says he spoke with Syed at 2:36 pm on the payphone beside Best Buy. He says that Syed had asked him to pick him up because he had just killed Lee. The only problem with this is that there are no records that show the existence of a payphone near Best Buy. So, to contradict these testimonies, how did Jay know Lee was dead in the first place? The only way Jay could have known Lee was dead, was Syed contacting him via phone. Well, how could Syed call Jay and tell him to pick him up when Lee was dead on a non-existent payphone? Also, with the lack of consistency with his interactions with investigators, Jenn, and Lee's disposal, creates, to a certain degree, reasonable doubt in not only his words, but his involvement in the case altogether. This is not saying that Jay is guilty of the murder or that he had anything to do with her death, but is rather stating that his admittance to accessory after the fact
There has been a lot of speculation and internal conflict as to who committed Hae’s murder. At some points, I thought that surely Adnan had done it. However at other points, there was no way that he had killed her. Based on the lack of physical evidence against him, I do not believe that Adnan committed the murder.
The criminal justice system is meant to protect the innocent, and punish those who are guilty of a crime. However, no system is perfect, and as a result, sometimes the innocent become victims of the system that was meant to protect them. How exactly do these innocent people become victims of the system? Sometimes the person gets framed, and the crime scene is staged to point a finger at them. Sometimes, there is no strong physical evidence against them, yet circumstantial evidence is used by the crown to put them away. This happened to a 17 year old boy named Adnan Syed in Baltimore, Maryland, who was imprisoned for life, for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Lee. Throughout the Serial podcast, Sarah Koenig is able to critically analyze information which proves Adnan’s innocence. Firstly, Asia’s letters gave Adnan an alibi for the time of the murder. Secondly, Adnan’s innocence can be demonstrated through the lack of any strong evidence and the prosecution’s use of circumstantial evidence which can be disproved. Thirdly, Jay’s constantly changing testimony is not credible evidence of Adnan’s guilt, making him innocent.
In the first episode of serial (episode #) in one the police tape had jay interview and the police had some simple questions that had to relate to the day of Hae Min Lee disappearance. And of course, jay mention Adnan was at the scene/event. Some minor point of the during the interview. For example, what did Jay and Adnan do after
or something. And I sat down next to him. We starting chatting,” by Asia Mclean. This piece of evidence gives Adnan an abili to where he was after school and it causes us to believe that he couldn’t have killed Hae. The final piece of evidence Adnan and how he was during the
We believe that Jay is guilty. In the next five minutes we will prove to you that Adnan is in fact innocent and why Jay should be in jail. Adnan was close friends with Jay’s girlfriend Stephanie which is what we believe Jay’s motive was to murder Hae. The court convicted Adnan of the murder with the motive of being jealous of Hae’s new relationship. We argue that the motive of jealousy was what made Jay kill Hae Min Lee.
Adnan Syed, a senior in Woodlawn High School, was convicted and charged with the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999. Not only is Adnan’s alibi inconclusive, but he also fails to recall any specific details or occurrences of January 13th-the date Hae Min Lee disappeared. His acquaintance, Jay Wilds, has served as the State’s key witness. Despite having already served seventeen years in prison, Adnan did not murder Hae Min Lee. His innocence simply has not been captured due to missing perspectives, inconsistencies in Jay’s story, and biases in the law enforcement.
The Serial podcast, hosted by Sarah Koenig, is about the murder of young Woodlawn High School student Hae Min Lee. Hae was a smart, ambitious, and outgoing young lady taken from this world too soon. Sarah Koenig and the podcast takes us through the ins and outs of typical and unusual teenager behavior to try and uncover something unseen in this case. Adnan Syed, the now convicted murder, and Jay Wilds, the state’s only witness, are the key people of this story. I believe Adnan’s innocence should be maintained because Jay’s story should not have been used for evidence, there was not enough evidence to even arrest Adnan, and Adnan had a trustworthy alibi.
