From the setting of the miserable city to the scenes of the murders, the film Seven was inventive, well written, and properly executed. Seven is a perfect combination of a dark style, intense plot, polished acting, and being consistent. The film is about two detectives finding a serial killer who kills using the seven deadly sins. It is one of the darkest psychological thrillers, directed by David Fincher and written by Andrew Kevin Walker. Fincher and Walker together have created a classic masterpiece which will always keep you on the edge of your seat and begging for more.
One of the best things about this film is the opening credits. Normally, I tend to overlook the credits, but for this film in order to truly enjoy, you must watch the credits. The opening scene is of a person making a disturbing scrapbook or journal: cutting some horrific pictures, writing pages after pages in a consistent font and size, cutting off the tip of their fingers with a blade, etc. It will never fail to bring chills down your spine, despite nothing being too ghastly. This amazing opening is all thanks to Kyle Cooper, the mastermind behind this opening, and who now creates American Horror Story’s openings. The opening credit sets the perfect mood for this sinister movie. Everything is perfect about it: the music, the font, the visuals, and especially not having someone’s name in the cast list. All these combined produced one of the finest openings of a film.
The story starts in a dark and
O Brother Where Art Thou? The movie is set in Mississippi in the late 1930's, with The Great Depression looming in the background. A condensed plot, are that the three main characters Ulysses McGill, Pete Hogwallop and Delmar O'Donnell are convicts that break away from a chain gang. They break away because they're on a quest to find the treasure that Everett hid. As the three men go along in their literal chains, they run into a ton of problems and interesting characters like The KKK, a campaigning governor, a robber, and a blind prophet. From the research I have done, the popular opinion is that this film is loosely based on the book, "The Odyssey". The overall tone and mood is somewhat goofy, but it has some heavy topics behind it like The
The film Fruitvale Station written and directed by Ryan Coogler, tells the story of a young African American man that was shot and killed by a white police officer on a subway platform. The film is based on the true story of Oscar Grant, who at the age of 22 years old was killed by a police officer on the Fruitvale station platform in San Francisco, California. The film shows how Oscar lived a tough life, but still had a caring heart. At the start of the New Year, Oscar wanted to change his life, and make better decisions. Unfortunately, he was a part of a situation that led to him being in police custody, and shot by a police officer. Oscar Grant’s death caused many protests and riots in the Bay Area against police brutality.

Even 15 years after the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? has been released the comedy-adventure film is still entertaining to watch. The film O Brother, Where Art Thou? is written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The story takes place in the state of Mississippi during the 1930s depression period, and is about three prison escapees on a journey to recover a large sum of money. The film stars George Clooney as Ulysses McGill, John Turturro as Pete, and Tim Blake Nelson as Delmar. In truth Ulysses McGill (George Clooney) is actually on a mission to get back home to his family and in order to do so has convinced his prison comrades to escape in order to recover a treasure that does not truly exist.
Another key individual discussed in 13th is Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was not punished for this due to Florida’s stand your ground law. This law states that if one feels that their life is in danger, they have the right to react. This led to the formation of a movement from mother’s of African-American descent which started with a hashtag stating that black lives matter (Lee,2017).
Se7en, another great by director David Fincher is a crime thriller made in 1995. In this movie, we follow the story of two detectives, arrogant and young David Mills (Brad Pitt) and retiring veteran William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) on Somerset’s final case. In a city of what seems like never ending rain, John Doe (Kevin Spacey) commits well thought out murders based on the Seven Deadly Sins. Together the detectives follow the trail of Doe and are introduced to the results of his horrific homicides.
“Psycho” is a classic suspense film directed by Alfred Hitchcock which features a central female protagonist, a seemingly ordinary young woman named Marion Crane, who crosses paths with a dangerous mentally ill motel owner, Norman Bates. As their strange relationship develops, a dominant theme of good versus evil is introduced to the audience through the use of characterisation, editing, mise-en-scene and various other media techniques.
Seven Samurai a 1954 classic, critically acclaimed as one of the greatest films and has been a notable reference point for reworked films of this genre. In succession with one of the more notable remakes, the 1960 version of the Magnificent Seven, leading through to the current version in 2016. The Magnificent Seven aired in cinema recently and was not the first time an adaptation of Seven Samurai has been re booted. In theory, an entire text book could be written on the many adaptations and their differences. These alterations focus on some key themes being setting, the threat, the client, the master, heroism and the lover, these themes within the films
The hero’s journey model, (also known as the monomyth), is a pattern of events and characters that appears in most movies, books, tv shows, etc. In this pattern, the hero leaves her/his mundane world, plunges into the unknown, undergoes test and trials, and returns with new knowledge and power. In the movie Citizen Kane, a rich man and a reporter covering the story after his death learns the power and problems with money and greediness. The movie starts with him being given away from his mother, the only truly happy place he would know. A very rich banker “adopts” him, as he has stakes in a mine that was thought to be worthless but turned out to be priceless. His threshold guardians are his conscience, and make him want to return to the
When watching The Hateful Eight it’s clear that Quentin Tarantino was inspired by John Carpenter’s The Thing. There are quite a few subtle nods to the classic horror film as well as some not so subtle similarities. One could watch one right after the other and immediately see the similarities between the two films. While most people would not consider The Hateful Eight a horror film it takes the greatest horror aspects of The Thing and uses them to its advantage. Quentin Tarantino took quite a few ideas from John Carpenter’s The Thing and modified them so they fit seamlessly in to his western film, including actors, characters, and even some music that was originally written for Carpenter’s film but was never used.
In this paper, I will write about “Thelma and Louise” (1991) movie. I choose a last scene of the movie which the police came to arrest them in the Grand Canyon (from 122 to 125 minutes).
Gluttony, greed, sloth, lust, pride, envy, and, wrath. These seven deadly sins wait in the shadows to find the correct prey to corrupt. One man believed that seven people, one person for each of the deadly sins, deserved to die as punishment. This man is the main antagonist in the movie Se7en; directed by David Fincher, cinematography by Darius Khondji, and production design by Arthur Max. The two protagonists, retiring Detective William Somerset and rookie David Mills, are called in to investigate a possible murder, which will become the first of the many more gruesome discoveries. As the movie progresses, Fincher shows the audience how different Detective Somerset and Mills are from each other. They seem to almost be character foils for each

Analyze This is a hilarious, feel good movie about two men from different backgrounds living completely opposite lifestyles. Through a series of very funny, random and bizarre moments they form a memorable friendship together. It begins with two gangsters leaving a café, discussing their plans to attend a meeting involving the countries major crime bosses. The movie’s plot is based upon the surviving gangster seeking out a psychiatrist to help with his emotional
The film “The Prestige” is one of many masterful Nolan films that walks the line between being a meta film about the film industry, and being focused on immersing the audience in the actual content of the film. At a close inspection, comparisons to the film industry can be seen, but they are not so obvious to distract the audience from the central conflicts that are at the forefront of the film. The subject of the film could most easily be defined as surrounding the topics of obsession or fame. More specifically, the obsession of fame, and the illusion of happiness that fame projects. The main characters of the movie both urn for the fame of being the world’s most successful entertainer, even if for different reasons.
