Se7en, another great by director David Fincher is a crime thriller made in 1995. In this movie, we follow the story of two detectives, arrogant and young David Mills (Brad Pitt) and retiring veteran William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) on Somerset’s final case. In a city of what seems like never ending rain, John Doe (Kevin Spacey) commits well thought out murders based on the Seven Deadly Sins. Together the detectives follow the trail of Doe and are introduced to the results of his horrific homicides.
Somerset and Mills are investigating two murders when Somerset realizes they are linked. Mills has the case of Eli Gould, a Defense Attorney who bled to death and was found in his office with his limbs tied and a pound of his flesh cut out placed onto a scale beside him. GREED was written in his own blood onto the floor. Somerset’s case was of an obese man Bob Mack who was found sitting in his living room while his face was lying in a plate of spaghetti with his feet and hands tied. Bob Mack’s autopsy revealed he had silver carvings in his stomach. Somerset returns back to the victim’s house and discovers the refrigerator had been moved and

His lawyer agrees that if Doe can take the main detectives to the last two murders he will confess to them all. On the way Doe explains he wanted to show people the evil in the world and punish those as well. As they arrive in the desert, a van appears with a man claiming someone paid him to deliver a box to this location at this exact time. Somerset looking inside first, turns back and begs for Mills to drop his gun before looking inside. Doe reveals he was envious of Mills and his wife’s marriage and decided to take her head as a souvenir. He also admits she was pregnant, Doe’s sin being ENVY he wanted mills to get so angry and kill him, leaving Mills with
From approximately 8:15 to 8:30 a murder occurred at the Ellis household and Paul Dudden is the victim. Paul was ruthlessly murdered with a knife. He abruptly left dinner and walked right out the front door. After reviewing all the evidence it is clear that Miss Pettigrew committed the act.
After the ballistics team had come to the conclusion that the gun was probably shot from four blocks away, Detective Healey and Doug Boyle start to go on an investigation. They had went door-to-door to question others to see if they knew anything about Charlie Ward’s death. When the police stopped at Michael’s house, they had asked the McKenzie family if they owned any firearms. Michael’s dad responded with a yes and was asked if he can show them. Michael then responded that he did not currently have his Winchester and said that his friend, Joe, borrowed it. A few days later, Doug Boyle and Detective Healey came back to Michael’s house with metal detectors to search the backyard for any evidence. While searching, Doug Boyle finds an empty casing
My first piece of evidence is the suitcase on the floor just outside the kitchen. It has flowers on it which means it is Mrs. Vermont’s suitcase. As a rule this shows Mrs. Vermont was leaving her husband. Mr. Vermont saw the suitcase, confronted Mrs. Vermont about it and killed her.
After a long day of pondering who the murderer was, Officer Darren decided to go out for a drink at the local pub. He saw Mr. Craill across the bar, and watched as he ate a huge meal consisting of a hamburger, fries, beers, steak, and mashed potatoes. It was quite peculiar that Mr. Craill was able to afford such a meal, because he did only have a part time job at a small town burger joint. Several things seemed suspicious that day about Mr. Craill, especially the fact that the gate that separated Craill’s yard from Dorothy’s yard was open along with Craill and Dorothy’s back
M2 - Use different sociological perspectives to discuss patterns and trends of health and illness in two different social groups
Even though the movie, The Help, was fiction, it was based on actual events that happened in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960’s. By watching this movie I can see how being born into a certain social structure can dictate what one’s life becomes. I also see how one person having the courage to stand up for what they believe can actually change society’s behavior. Skeeter, one of the main characters had the courage to write about the very people who helped raise her and in essence help mold her into the person she was. These people, the help, were more of parents to the white children than their own parents, the white’s in the society. I cried a lot finding it
In this essay, I will assess the strengths and limitations of unstructured interviews for investigating the effect of material deprivation on educational achievement by using Item B and my own knowledge. Material deprivation is the idea that a lack of money leads to disadvantages, Item B gives an example of ‘low household income, poor housing and a lack of work space in the home.’
Chapter 3 of The Real World: An Introduction to Sociology explains to the reader what culture is and goes into depth of the different concepts within culture. It defines culture as “the entire way of life for a group of people” (Ferris & Stein, 2010, p. 77). Culture is described as a “lens” through which one views the world and is passed from one generation to the next. This “entire way of life”, according to sociologists, consists of two major categories: material and symbolic culture. Material culture involves the entities associated with a cultural group, such as tools, machines, utensils, buildings, and artwork. When examining material culture, it can convey a great deal about a particular group or society. Symbolic culture embraces ways

The brutal 1998 movie American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, follows former skinhead Derek Vinyard while he is trying to prevent his younger brother, Danny, from going down the same path Derek was led down. While leading a violent white supremacist cult and being a large part of many racial crimes throughout the L.A. area, Derek was sentenced to three years in prison for killing two black men who attempted to break into his truck. Throughout the three years, Derek learns that there are good and bad people in every race and becomes more open and friendly to those he believed he was superior to. After getting help in prison, Derek is released on parole and tries to cut ties with his old “brothers,” it is then that Derek realizes how much
According to Durkheim, Social fact or social phenomenon are the main subject matter of sociology. He said in one of his pieces that social fact must be studied distinct from the biological and psychological phenomenon. Social order is the trend of behavior being used to exercise power over another person. It has become rules and regulations that have been set up by some authorities to be obeyed by another group of people who are being undermined in a society, it is a situation that oppressed people and limits them from their liberties. When people go through these situations they cannot function the way they are supposed to function because they are limited by their freedom. These social orders are not only laws but rather certain norms created by the authority to put a whole race into a situation where they are very far from freedom of speech, movement, and knowledge. African Americans are an example of a race that has been through discrimination at workplaces, schools, community etc. They are one race which has been a label or put in a class where the situation will never permit you to climb the ladder of success. Although you might have all the certification, qualification, the best schools, etc. but the fact that you came from the poor class or the lower class, it becomes very difficult for the Caucasian people to give you the opportunity you deserve, because of this, the citizens of American have been grouped into different classes which are upper, middle, working,
Andre Dubus’s story, “Killings,” is complicated; it is fraught with hard moments of loneliness, heartache, violence, adultery and murder. For Matt Fowler loneliness and heartache over the murder of his son drove him to seek revenge against his son’s killer Richard Strout by seeking the help of his friend Willis who sympathized with Matt. In the case of Richard Strout the heartache from his wife’s divorce made him jealous of the man she was now with. He wanted to continue to be with her and if he could not have her for himself then no one else could.
Identify the four major sociological theoretical paradigms. For each, what are the key tenets? How does each explain how society works?
I recently saw the film, 42, and I found many connections with our Sociology of Sport class. First and foremost, the movie was about the baseball legend, Jackie Robinson. Jack broke the baseball color barrier and was the first African American player allowed in Major League Baseball. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers beginning in 1947. Jack was a strong, talented player, but he also had a mind of his own. He played with an attitude that would be taunting to other players. When he made it to the Montreal Royals in 1946, he had to quickly get rid of this taunting, smart attitude. He was the only black player in a time of hatred and prejudice in the United States. Although he
