HSS 204: Fieldwork and Seminar
Reflection #1: Getting Started
I started my internship on 3/25/2015 at Sweet Magnolia Senior Center Located in Coney Island Brooklyn. My first day wasn’t so bad or nerve racking at all. Some of the senior watched me grow up in the neighborhood. I love working with the elderly. This wouldn’t be my first time but it was a little different from what I do at work. In my HSS 214 class, I was the go to person when it comes to seniors citizens. The elderly population have many issue that they shouldn’t such as their lack of resources. On my first day I was in a different section of the center using my knowledge as a program coordinator to help create a stronger and well put program for the staff to
I am currently doing my internship at this senior center and it is based on the ten core competencies of Eastern’s B.S.W. Program. On wednesday at my internship was a very important day, because I got to go into the field and instead of go to the agency with went out into the field. That day I went to a place with some body of the agency and I saw the process of how they recruit the young participant to join the program. Which I think it's a good way to reach out to this participants, because as young participant they most of the time won't be interested until somebody reach them to help the participants.is a speciall internship becaouse is very important this is a good story to tell.It was really interesting to see the agancy from another perspective. Chapter 11 on the book the human services internship, it explained how as a professional and as a person that is learning,
Reflecting back on my field experience, I was able to gain quality insight as well as a better understanding of the teaching and the learning process of ESOL in a mainstream classroom. My experience in Mrs. Little’s classroom has shown that the role of the ESOL teacher is to educate students in functional language skills, offer content that is academically challenging, and helps students acculturate to the new language and culture.
For my field project interview I chose option #1, a single in depth interview, because I believed it would be extremely beneficial for me to interview someone in the field of work that I am interested in, as a career, when I graduate. Furthermore, the field I am interested in gaining employment is in the nonprofit industry. When choosing this option I believed that I would gain valuable information that would help me to determine if this is the field I really want to do with my degree. For my project I opted to interview June Early, the Executive Director of SAFE (Safe Alternatives for Everyone). I met June Early several years ago and applied my networking skills when evaluating my options of who I should interview. I did research online and
My fieldwork sites include two, I am at Hospice Care Team where I see pediatric patients and Innovation Performance Ex, (IPE) Therapy Contracting and Consulting where I see adults. The population I see range from four to ninety. All of the pediatric patients have CP, right now we are seeing 5 pediatric patients that range from mild to severe. We work with fine motor, gross motor, visual tracking, oral motor, and ROM. With the adults we work on strength and endurance, this population is CVA, dementia, and MVA.
My child 's name is Jude Alexander and he is a male. As a baby he is cautious around new people and situations, but warms up fairly quickly to friendly people. In kindergarten Jude Alexander seemed to have made one or two friends and usually played cooperatively and was sometimes reluctant to join in new activities with unfamiliar children. He performed below average on tests of vocabulary, and the ability to retell a story. He had a real knack for the art projects, and really got interested in the pre-math activities involving working with blocks and geometric shapes. In first through fifth grade he worked cooperatively in groups, usually respects the rights and property of others, and usually demonstrates appropriate peer social interaction. He demonstrates strength in art, all areas of reading, and in spelling and appropriate for the grade level in writing. He needs additional help in the areas of speaking and listening and in the content knowledge of social studies, science and music. He was average in mathematical problem solving, understanding of data, number concepts, graphical applications, and arithmetic computation. In the seventh grade, he consistently contributes to cooperative group activities and respects the rights and possessions of others, and shows age-appropriate social interaction with peers. He demonstrates strength in art, reading, spelling and writing. He was average in math and science, and needs additional
I had the pleasure of meeting Devyn in November 2015. I asked whether he was able to be interviewed by me, and he agreed. Devyn has worked in the Therapeutic Recreation field for 20 years.
7A) I have always taken a proactive approach by applying effective leadership, managerial, and organizational skills to achieve continuous success which was demonstrated in my $90 million I-15 design sequencing projects (2004 to 2008), where I have continuously received favorable ratings for administering and implementing BMPs that comply with the NPDES permit and the best compliance record in D11 for conducting labor relation interviews. My leadership and commitment to quality improvements resulted in my $10 million major maintenance project being rated the best quality dowel bar retrofit in the State in year 2003 to 2004. In the years 2000 to 2003: led, managed, and directed a staff of 10 engineers to perform multiple tasks simultaneously to complete work on $20 million six concurrent
The school that I was assigned to do my field observation was Scranton High-School, a public school that teaches students grades 9-12, making it part of secondary education and located in the city of Scranton on 63 Mike Munchak Way. I was assigned to observe history classes at the school in order to see how a teacher instructed the class along with asking questions about different educational aspects. I observed multiple teachers ranging from freshman history, to junior and senior criminology and different types of course, such as AP or honors courses. My role was simply to observe teachers and to see how the information learned in Interdisciplinary Assessment Grades 4-12 would apply in
I would’ve never predicted how amazing the effects of my visit to the nursing home would be. After greeting the elderly and holding conversations with each and every one of them, I was amazed by how appreciative they were for my visit. Perhaps they felt lonely or abandoned before, but now tears of joy glistened in their eyes. Maybe all people need is to know they are cared for, even by a simple stranger. Moreover, I was stunned by the optimism they had for their future, even at old age. They were so youthful in spirit, regardless of their frail bodies. They were selfless enough to tell me to take care of myself, even if they were the ones in wheelchairs. It taught me that happiness can exist, even at old age, regardless of discouraging circumstances or diminishing
For my winter 2017 co-op term, I worked at KPMG LLP, Canada as a staff accounting in the Financial Institution and Real Estate audit group. Similar to my midterm reflection, I worked in teams of 4-6 people, with various level of expertise including staff accountants, seniors, managers and partners. Over the last half of the work term, I worked on 3 different real estate clients (two public and one private company) working on various audit work such as debt and revenue sections.
I have grown as a global citizen in the area of investigating the world. In my Junior year I am trying to retake any classes I did not pass the first time I took them. Doing so I am having to retake english 10A this semester we have read about write for rights cases. In the process of this project we have had to chose 3 cases and write why we are interested in them. The teacher then chose which you will write to (which you can relate to the most). My class and I then researched about our different topics. When we were done we presented to the class what we had found out about our topic and what are topic was about. We later started to write our letters to the location on the write for rights article sheet. Our letters consisted of our view
Today was the first day of internship. I attended a new hire training secession about 8 hours and heard about the history of Novogradac & Company LLP, met the partners of the firm, completed all new hire paperwork and turned in to HR. In addition, I learned about ProSystem Engagement which company has been using for audit and tax preparation software. At the end of the day, all intern received a tour of office and met their own team members.
There are many aspects to teaching and as a teacher it is necessary to understand the most important aspects of teaching and how they should be incorporated into the classroom. A teacher’s most important job is not to teach specific material but to build relationships with the students and ensure they feel safe and cared for. Once the teacher is able to ensure this then they should focus on teaching, however teaching is more than listing off facts and sharing information with the students. As teachers it is essential we try to engage our students. There are many ways to engage students and each teacher as a specific way they get their classroom involved in learning. During my field experience I have learned the importance of being able to engage students and I have seen what a classroom looks like when students are not engaged. My field experience has helped to reflect on student engagement and how I would place the experience in my philosophy of education.
