The World:
Fate Core does not have one specific world, but it does have a specific style. Characters in Fate are supposed to all be at the top of their field. They're the inventor who's always on the cusp of the newest in technology, they are the last master of a forgotten martial art displaced from their own time, or a international cat burglar who has changed their ways and is looking to make good before they're finally caught. There are many worlds in which to play such characters and you can create your own with your friends or explore one of the many provided in supplemental books. These are six sided dice with two plus sides, two minus sides, and two blank sides. They are rolled in a set of four and the result added to a stat to see if success is achieved. (Regular six sided dice can be used without too much fuss as well).

But the real strength of the system come in a characters Aspects. If you were playing Indiana Jones he could have a High Concept Aspect: Adventuring Professor of Archeology, a Flaw Aspect of: Why'd it have to be ....(snakes?), and perhaps a Master of the Bull Whip. Now, whenever you're making a roll that's related to an aspect for him you can spend a "Fate Point" to add to the roll, re-roll dice, or perhaps create an aspect on the scene or another character to use in the future.

These more open-ended Aspects, versus hard numbers, allow and entice participants to really play to their characters strengths and make them shine. They'll earn back Fate Points by having their Aspects invoked by the game master (GM). "Are you sure you want to go in that room Indy? It's full of snakes and you'll get a fate point for not doing
