It was a true pleasure to host Famke in the lab. I found that Famke is very friendly and experimentally very talented. I advised her to become more methodical while doing the experiment to improve the success rate of the experiments. During this training, Famke had the opportunity to attend seminars, scientific meetings and participate in scientific discussions during the journal club. I have noticed that she is intelligent and can learn very quickly about different subjects. Famke’s main weakness revealed to be the report write-up. It took her several months to write it at the expense of doing the final experiments and some experimental analysis. She contributed to genotype zebrafish mutant lines that she didn’t have time to analyse. Overall,
How was this lab activity similar to other labs that you have done in the past?
This lab was pretty cool because we got to do numerous tests and see different but similar results. I learned how Newton’s Third Law works and it’s very cool. Newton’s third law happens in everyday life. For example, fighting over the remote control with your brother, you both add an equal and opposite reaction of force. Overall this lab was fun and a learning lesson. I had a great time with this fun
I attended my lab on 02/10/2017, Friday from 8:00 to 11:00 am in the Jets room (3 to 5 years old In the Bombeck Learning Family Center.
When he started the presentation he gave a quick introduction then outlined what he did. Instead of going into every procedure in his experiment he focused on the largest, and possibly the most interesting, portion which was the 16S RNA assay. As he described this relatively complex topic he used
During this experiment, we discovered that over half of the Sordaria participate in recombination. Our contribution to the experiment was creating a control. This data can now be used in order to compare data from different environments in order to calculate changes based on environmental factors. Struggles we faced were not only finding recombinations, but also getting the microscope to focus correctly to
I attended my lab on 03/24/2017, Friday from 8:00 to 11:00 am, in the Jets room (3 to 5 years old) in the Bombeck Learning Family Center.
Worked with my lab partner, Joey LaPiana, in order to complete the lab and verify data and
Macbeth had little to any control throughout the play until it came to the murder of Duncan and deciding whether to kill Banquo, and Macduff. Shakespeare depicts, “ If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me, without a stir”(1.3). Macbeth, after The Weird Sisters prophesied, became lustful for power and let his innermost desires take hold. They manifested into Macbeth believing the prophecies were true, began to battle the idea of killing Duncan. Shakespeare describes, “ Stars hide your fires; let not see my black and deep desires…”(1.4). Macbeth having control over his innermost thoughts, didn’t want to follow through with the murder of Duncan but his lust for power became more evident as he and Lady Macbeth talked. Shakespeare
Surprisingly, it hadn’t taken Neutron very long to convince Splash to approve his project- all he had had to do was mention how much it could benefit her- her, specifically, if something terrible happened to her. I’ve never seen anyone this selfish, Neutron thought furiously, watching two delivery people move a rather heavy box into his lab, very, very carefully. Not that I can’t understand her concerns. The other tests didn’t exactly go… optimally… and if this project fails... He looked away from the box to glance distastefully over the notes from the previous tests; he had had no choice but to test it on mice. If I had originally been using human test subjects when the experiments failed, it would have been the largest, most regrettable disaster I’ve ever experienced. The tests with the mice were incredibly rushed. I wish I had more time. Recently, he had been scanning deceased mice into robot versions using an updated model of the Delta machine, and trying to avoid the crushing feeling of grief by spending more time in his lab working. None of the tests had gone as
For me, both of the approaches are helpful resources more like lesson plan or blueprints for teachers, that can be adjusted and change according to the students' performance. In Frazee's approach, the students are given the opportunity to be involved in the musical experiences such as performing, creating, moving, are already very empowering. Whereas Scott's approach promotes student involvement giving the opportunity for students to become leaders, questioners, and problem solvers. These approaches connects to what we are experiencing in our class in so many ways; activities that are taught in class are broken down into smaller step by step process, students are constantly answering guided questions provided by the teacher, and at the end
Other animals that are typically used in experiments are rats and mice. Doctors find these species very accommodating when they study different genetic experiments. The mice reproduce very quickly; thus the doctors can view the experiment of genes over several
I wish to recommend Scott Bye for the Terry Scholarship program. I have known him for seven years - two years as a younger sibling of a student, and four years as an amazing English Student.
Due to experimentation with the zebrafish, scientists have been able to gain insight into the formation and function of individual tissues, organ
Special Warfare Officer has always picked my interest with the amount of skill these individuals poses. The team work, dedication, and training shows why they are the best at what they do. I want to strive to the reach that level just as a high school football player strives to be in the NFL. If I am going to serve, why not become the the best of the best.
Animal testing has become a wide contribution in medical field in order to find new treatment, developing new medicines and improving the existing ones as well as testing the safety and effectiveness of new medicines. Some medicines development is depending on animal research, for instances, vaccines and insulin for diabetes and kidney transplants. However, there are many diseases that their cures are still undiscovered yet and one of them is AIDS (Tanir, 2012). Frankie L. Trull once said in his article of Animal Test Research Has Saved Many Human Lives, “[…] fight against cancer has seen 24 significant biomedical advances in the past 30 years. None of them could have occurred without animal research.” Therefore, this
