For me, both of the approaches are helpful resources more like lesson plan or blueprints for teachers, that can be adjusted and change according to the students' performance. In Frazee's approach, the students are given the opportunity to be involved in the musical experiences such as performing, creating, moving, are already very empowering. Whereas Scott's approach promotes student involvement giving the opportunity for students to become leaders, questioners, and problem solvers. These approaches connects to what we are experiencing in our class in so many ways; activities that are taught in class are broken down into smaller step by step process, students are constantly answering guided questions provided by the teacher, and at the end
I think that the approach the author has taken to collaborate with the students on their education is definitely the best way to educate because it gives the student a chance to discover their own learning potential and set reasonable goals. For example, Mr. Lamar was a teacher
The purpose of the Gagne/ Lesson Plan Comparison assignment is to compare the two modes of lesson planning. In the body of this assignment I will identify similarities and differences I have found between the two methods. I hope that this will provide me with a clear understanding of their strengths and weaknesses for any future lesson planning I may have.
Reinforces important lesson concepts and prepares students for the next lesson. Loops back to the objective and involves students.
I used to think that using one teaching strategy would be most effective in the classroom, otherwise the lesson wouldn’t flow as smooth, but now I think using a variety of teaching strategies in one lesson, is more beneficial as it has allowed me to facilitate student learning and achieve lesson objectives more effectively. I learnt that using discussion and inquiry worked really well in all aspects of the lesson, from beginning, middle to end. Through using inquiry questions in the group discussion on the literacy lesson Drac and the Gremlin after we read the book, I was able to gain a variety of perspectives from the students (Killen, 2013), on what happened in the book and what they picture the characters and setting to look. Through asking
Danielson’s framework is much more detailed and can be divided into 4 main frameworks: planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction and professional responsibilities (Danielson, 2007). The HSTW framework is not as detailed, because here we find only 10 key practices that should be applied: high expectations from students, plan of study, academic studies, career and technical studies, work-based learning, teachers working together, students actively engaged, guidance, extra help and developing a culture of continuous improvement (Virginia Department of Education, n.d.).
Flemming claimed that visual learners have a preference for seeing (think in picture; visual aids such as overhead slides, diagrams, hand-outs, etc.). Auditory learner’s best learn through listening (lectures, discussion, tapes etc.) Tactile/kinaesthetic learners prefer to learn via experience, moving, touching and doing (active exploration of the world; science projects; experiments, etc.) Its use in pedagogy allows teachers to prepare classes that address each of these areas. Students can also use the model to identify their preferred learning style and maximize their educational experience by focusing on what benefits them most(Wikipedia.org/learning styles).During my lessons I always try to give students a mixture of learning styles so overall the lessons are more varied. I find this keeps the levels of interest much higher and it caters for the group as a whole, this way each student gets to learn at some point in their preferred learning style, this helps me confirm that they have knowledge and understanding from classroom based auditory and visual learning and that they can demonstrate through practical assessments that they have the skills and ability to perform tasks to a standard which can be deemed competent. I insist my students must understand how, when, where and why they should perform tasks. By giving students as much information as possible I believe this empowers the individual and gives them more incentive for
As it stands right now, I am faced with a dilemma based on the methods in which I have taught in the past, and the new methods in which I feel are more suited for todays learning environment. Our social and educational community is divided on whether traditional or more modern methods of teaching are more successful. In my opinion, every method in teaching is the same. They deliver a message to the students and are generally
On a first glance, it seems that Danielson’s framework is much better because it is very detailed, but I believe it focuses on only a few key aspects of teaching and it leaves a gap, one that can only be filled by the High Schools That Work practices. However, we should not put Danielson’ framework aside. On the contrary, I believe that the domains detailed here by Danielson can be used as an extension to a few key practices of High
This assessment is vital and is an integral part in the learner and tutors planning. Ensuring that your learners preferred style is embedded in the lesson plan (differentiation) can ensure that the learner’s motivation is continued. There are no right and wrong answers but in some cases there is not always a clear result, many learners may have a mix. However this could be seen as a positive when teaching a larger group as you can embed all three learning styles ensuring that a larger number will participate therefore keeping learners motivated and achieving goals and also progressing.
Pros and Cons are always present when it comes to the best way to teach our young children of America. Each teacher, administrator, and scholar thinks that they have the answer when it comes to whatever their strengths are. There is always a new study saying that this is the best way to teach math or reading, or writing, or science, or social studies. This may be true for different parts of the country or different classrooms. Each class is different and there are many ways to teach, some of which will be discussed here.
Eleven responses mentioned that the information needed to be relevant to students for them to learn more. “People will remember what they want to remember, music is more relevant.” This comment demonstrates that not only do people remember different amounts by how much there is or how its presented but whether it’s relevant to them or not. This response mentioned music as a way of teaching as it is more relevant and engaging. These responses didn’t answer the research question but instead pointed out a way that information can be learnt regardless of length.
The other is just drawing up plays just for fun and exchanging it with friends. Those are the only main thing that can come close to what I have learned about this subject.
Students have their own best way in effectively learning the lesson. With the diversity of students, the problem is each student has a preferred learning style. It becomes undeniably one of the reasons that make it difficult to achieve the best expected outcome out of teachers’ effort. However, teachers try to incorporate various teaching techniques to make every learning opportunity become productive, meaningful, and relevant for the learners.
Effective differentiated instruction reflects where the students currently are in their educational stage and not where a teacher wishes them to be. This step is important; placing students either too high or too low in the instruction can be adverse to the teacher’s goal of helping all students. Developing lesson strategies for students that are too demanding may have a negative effect on performance and reinforce negative emotions concerning learning. Likewise, developing lesson strategies that do not challenge students to perform at their best can also have a negative effect. Some students that are not engaged by a teacher's instruction are left adrift waiting for new or more stimulating material. Engaging students in the learning strategy is the key ingredient in producing active learners.
On how I will structure my lesson will be based on the student’s maturity and how familiar they are with the material. If the class as a whole has behavior issues such as a lot of talking, not focusing on the task at had. I will be more apt to use Teacher-centered lessons. This allows me to control classroom management and know where the progress of the class is. If the class is capable of less supervision than I would use a Student-centered lesson approach. Another aspect that would determine what approach I would use on how I would structure my lessons would be how new the material is to the students. I think it would be unproductive to give the students the lead and have them problem solve a topic that they never heard of. Now if these students have been introduced to this content earlier in the year or in another class prior to this one. Then it would be appropriate for them to self teach or research on their own.
