For my genius hour project, I decided that I am going to researching my family history and my family past, where my family is from. It sounds really cool to learn about my family history and where they came from? I really want to know where my family is from because I want to know where I am also from and what I have parts of the world are in me. I know that most of my family is from Europe, that is all I really knew before I started this project. But I did not know what parts of Europe my family came from. I really wish that I could know where all of my family is from and what their last names mean. My thesis for the genius hour project is to find out where my family came from, how old they were when they came to America. And did my family …show more content…
Which is the part of the British Isles And I also found out that Scotland and that their national animal is a unicorn.
I also found out that a person in my family signed the mayflower compact which means that they were part of the first “government” in the Thirteen colonies of the united states. Which only forty-one people signed in over on November Eleventh in the year sixteen twenty.
The process of finding my family was very difficult because I used what I had already known from my parents. But the rest that I did not know was what I had to use google. I used websites like finding a grave and other websites like that. It was not very easy because you had to be careful what you clicked on and other things like that. Because if you click on the wrong one then you have to go back and restart the whole process again. At times it made me very and sometimes I get very tired of this project and it was very difficult, I wanted to quit and give up on the project. And when you messed up, you had to restart because you got the wrong people that were not your family and not even related to you or anything, it was really

One time when my grandpa was only three years old, he thought he saw a baby rabbit in a dog’s mouth so he went to grab it out of the dog’s mouth. Turns out that that rabbit was a rat and bit his hand. Luckily he was alright but the rat was mauled to death after the dog realized it was still alive. His dad, my great-grandfather told him to just get over it. I am really happy my grandfather is not like that. Google defines genealogy as a line of descent traced continuously from an ancestor. The reason it is important is you might want to know why you have this on your body or maybe there is a person in your family you never met and want to know a little more about them. I will be telling you about my journey of finding my heritage.
My family history has influenced who I am today due to the fact that I have descended from a long line of artistic people. On my mother’s side, there have been many who have worked with painting, music, drawing, dancing, and even film production. From day one in school I have loved the arts and have found that it is my passion. Both my parents have been highly supportive of wanted to continue my love of dance during and after college and also with pursuing it as a career. Not only that, but I have lived in Pittsboro, North Carolina all my life and stayed within the school systems in the county moving from elementary, to middle, to now high school. I have been very fortunate to have gone to schools that are highly oriented with the arts. Starting in elementary school with playing the recorder, I moved up to play the flute in sixth
History is defined as the study of the science of humanity in the past. It's a broad subject that spans over countless people groups throughout the years that the world has been around. Even before the times we have written word history was still being made, and it is still extremely important. We tend to forget that in our average day to day lives we are still making history. That all over the globe everyone is taking part in what might be in a history book someday.
The idea behind Hunt Club Subs n’ Grill is not a new one, it’s an idea that started with traditions that have been passed down from one generation to another throughout the years. Family, conservation and heritage.
The smell of old books in the stuffy back room of the library was overwhelming, but also quite comforting. It reminded me of a much simpler time. This caused me to briefly stop and reminisce about my childhood. But enough of that, I am here on a mission, I am researching old newspaper articles to get information for a genealogy project. I never thought that there would be a time that I would willingly research and write this much once I was out of school, yet here I sit, sorting through decades of information and taking pages of notes.
Tracing back, and learning about, the history of your family is a worthwhile thing for anyone to spend some time doing. If this is something that interests you, then there are lots of places that you can find information about your ancestors, with local archives and personal records being good examples. Another prime source of information are gravestone memorials, which can reveal a lot more than you might think that they would do.
Matthew and Luke both feature a genealogy of Jesus but although those genealogies should match up they differ quite severely. In many ways that is due to the fact that Luke and Matthew had very different ideas on whom exactly the messiah was. Luke’s take on the genealogies of Jesus starts at joseph and works all the way back to Adam and subsequently god (Luke 3:23). Matthew works backwards from Abraham back down to joseph and then his stepson Jesus (Matthew 1:1). Both genealogy’s merge from Abraham to David but interestingly they split when Luke defers to David’s son Nathan and Matthew turns to his other son Solomon. Luke seems to trace Jesus genealogy as the son of god while Matthew is directly tracing that of his stepfather joseph back to
The way in which the ‘family’ unit is perceived has changed immensely since the last quarter of the twentieth century. Over time, many factors have contributed to these changes including, and not limited to, the industrial revolution, the feminist movement, the period of modernity and technological advancements. As a result, these factors have influenced significant changes to the ‘family’, these include; the increasing rates of female occupation, mean age at marriage, divorce, unmarried couples, single parents, mean age at birth of first child, and a decline in marriage rates. Moreover, this essay will examine how the family has changed over time through discussing the factors that have contributed to these changes. It is for these reasons and observations made by sociologists that it could be inferred that the way the family unit is perceived has changed greatly over time.
Our family genealogist had made a common mistake, one that many people make and have to acknowledge at a later date. With the availability of computer records, he had gone directly to the computer for the fastest, and what he thought to be the easiest methods of building a family tree. Our genealogist found out that that is not always true. Amateur genealogists skip over some of the best methods for gathering evidence. Genealogy is a field in which older is better and leg work is important. Begin with what you already know and then search in your community. Spread out from there. Don't be shy about asking questions and keeping meticulous notes on the answers. The smallest detail may become the clue to unraveling a mystery later on. Genealogists should talk to as many older family members as possible. Unlike immediate family members, the older generation is usually harboring an abundance of knowledge concerning past generations. Begin by engaging them in conversations about their youth, their family, social issues and norms before asking questions. Always listen attentively for important clues as they may drop valuable information to you that seems relatively unimportant to them. Use resources like the old photos, Bibles, attic trunks and other family heirlooms hidden in the attic or basement; they can contain important information concerning family. Only after scouring hardcopies of one's personal resources, and after making meticulous notes and charts, should one branch out. Computers are a great tool for genealogical research, but they should be used in conjunction with other resources. Our genealogist found that had he been more aggressive in his community search and asked more questions, he may have found answers sooner. While it is recommended that one begin with a single surname, family or individual; don't be afraid to branch out. Branching out to the siblings of his 2nd great grandfather's siblings may have yielded the clues
To begin with, I was talking to my family about my project did not go so well. I tried talking to my dad. He said he did not know anything so he did not help very well. Then I tried talking to my mom. She barely knew anything. I talked to my sister she said that our great great grandpa, our great grandpa, and our grandpa were at least in civil war one on or civil war two. I went to internet sites and tried finding my parents and grandparents yeah did not work but I kept trying till I could find them I did not find them but I got a lot of information about my grandparents and my mom and dad. So that sort of helped me in a way.
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer to self-discovery.
There are many directions I could study my cultural history. I could search for so many answers to questions about my family. Are we descendents of Chinese people? Were we a powerful family in Vietnam? Are we related to any royalty? I could not decide how far back I wanted to explore my family tree or if I wanted to research my mother’s family or my father’s family. I was not even sure if I could find any answers at all. All of these questions are relevant if I wish to discover the people in my family line. However, none of these explain what makes me who I am today.
