Extra Concert Evaluation For my extra concert evaluation, I attended the Ballet and Performing Arts Centre Nutcracker performance. I really enjoyed the performance. It was well put together and evident that they had worked hard to put on a good show. I had very few complaints and suggestions after seeing the dance, and I would definitely consider going again. In my opinion, the strongest part of the choreography was the snow scene. It was my favorite scene out of the whole performance for various reasons. The snow scene was obviously intended to be elegant, and I believe that their choreography for this part definitely showed elegance. One specific part of the choreography that they pulled off in this scene was the lifts done by the snow
The dance choreography in the musical was very good and flowed very freely with each song. For example, all the characters danced in the opening with smooth glides and transitions. When the circus came to town, the dance choreography worked the entire stage.
One performance I attended this semester was the Lenoir-Rhyne University Jazz Ensemble’s concert on November 13. The ensemble's performance was exciting and entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed all ten song selections. Throughout the entire performance, a clear sound was produced along with great tone quality. Additionally, the intonation was great across all instruments, not only in the opening pieces, but for the entire concert. However, in a few places, articulations could have been more clear and consistent. Overall, dynamics were well executed and the transitions between dominance with different instruments were smooth. Contrastly, the ensemble as a whole could have backed off more dynamically during certain solos. All the solos were
My favorite dance was the contemporary routine with Derek, Jaja, and Alexia. The choreographer, Stacey Tookey, explained that the piece was about bravery in different forms: Derek played a veteran, Jaja was portraying a woman leaving an abusive relationship, and Alexia took on the role of a single mother. I really enjoyed the dance because of the story it was trying to convey; each dancer dove into character and brought out complex emotions through their movements. The dancers connected deeply with each of their stories, even though they were completely different people. They were portraying things that they had never personally experienced in their lives before. They showed the strengths of the characters along with their weaknesses, they
The concert could be define as the act of performing in public. In order to our music appreciation class to synchronize the theory to the practice. We, students, have been requited by our instructor to write a concert review as an assignment. It is in that sense that I went to the Levitt pavilion and attend to Walt wilkins & mystiqueros.
On the evening of Sunday, December 16, 2012, I had the pleasure of attending a concert I’d wanted to see for quite a while. I was delighted to attend Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, performed by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Ballet. The performance took place at Carpenter Theatre in Richmond Virginia. As I entered I felt a bit out of place. I’d never attended a performance quite like this one and I was a bit nervous. I took my seat to the left of the orchestra pit. I was thrilled to see how close I was. I had arranged for a seat near the orchestra so I could observe them as they played.
Ballet Orchestra perform the nutcracker live. The concert was at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House,
For my outside dance critique, I saw Artistic Motion's Friday, December 16th performance of The Snow Queen. Overall, it was a fantastic show, and I enjoyed it very much. Artistic Motion's production differed greatly from other ballets I have seen. In addition to having a dance school, they also have an acting school, so, The Snow Queen, involved both dancing and acting. There would be a few dancing scenes, followed by an acting scene that told the story of The Snow Queen, in an interesting way.
There were five performances at this To Go Show. All were amazing, but I will focus on just one for this critique, I will be talking about my favorite performance. The first one was Conformity vs Nonconformity (No comfort zone) By Deseree Hook in collaboration with Uriah Huffman. This dance was about how everything you want lies behind a wall of fear. Power: The Contraction of visibility by Meredith Yuhas with the dancers Taylor Dumdei, Rekha Letsinger, Ashley French, Naja Copeland, Demery Trantham, Destiny Smith, Uriah Huffman, and Lydia Ray; This piece was about how people are struggling to gain all the power, possibly about racism or at least has a bit of racial elements in it. The next performance was a solo by Bronwyn McDaniel called Solidify, which was a beautiful movement that had a purpose that I do not understand just yet. The last
The pathways used by the dancers were very remedial. The direction of the movement always seemed to move upstage right then back down to downstage left. The speed of not just the movement of the dancers, but the whole play in general was high beat and high tempo as well as some parts becoming super dramatic. The rhythmic patterns of the material performed were to a beat while being sung. There was a pulse in every song the dancers/actors were executing. But, there was not one off beat movement or part, that I could notice anyways, throughout the production. The overall piece of the performance was marvelous, I enjoyed sitting and watching. My favorite thing about this play was that the actors actually interacted with the crowd and didn’t just treat the audience like they weren’t there. I think that the director/choreographer was trying to put the message of it doesn’t matter what you look like, as long as you can act/dance/perform to the best of your abilities. Also, the performance was well put together and obviously had some time put into
On Sunday night February 26, I went to the music center located at New Mexico State university to the Atkinson recital hall to watch the North American Saxophone Alliance region conference concert. The concert only consisted of saxophones and a few accompaniments first to the stage was Jessica Maxfield who played alto saxophone accompanied by Hannah Crevistion on the piano. The duo played accouple of movements from “Garden of Follies” composed by the Andrew Norman. The first movement they played was “Spandrels”, the tempo on this piece as soon as they start was a very fast tempo and lot of accents marks. She goes on to play to play four more movements called “Crossed Paths, Blue Mountains thoughts, Fourth Act and Regarding Crystals”. All the move moments she had played gave a more serious and suspenseful tone. The piano would play notes that were very sharp dissonance notes throughout all the movements and the saxophone would bring it more to a tonic sound but it’s still very textural music, and lots of sharps played.
On November 20, 2014, I had an opportunity to watch a concert entitled “Autumn Winds” at Colburn School in Downtown Los Angeles. It was part of a monthly concert series “Rush Hour Concerts at Colburn” hosted by Gibson Dunn. Gibson Dunn is a prominent law firm whose active involvement in the community expands to all various arenas of the society through their leadership and services. Rush Hour Concert is held monthly at Thayer Hall in Colburn School located at 200 South Grand Avenue diagonally across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Rush Hour Concert encourages the commuters to avoid traffic with this program to unwind after a long days of work with a wine reception at 5:30 pm
This year I am participating in the Area West Elementary Enrichment Band where I play the clarinet. I am proud of this because it is a large achievement in my passion, music. In grade 6 I was first introduced to the clarinet and instantly fell in love with it. Today I continue to play the same instrument. In Enrichment Band, I get to meet and play alongside other musicians who have the same passion and drive for music that I do. I also get to seek further learning opportunities within the band, such as the mc script I have received for the upcoming concert. Overall, the band is an excellent learning opportunity and I am truly privileged to have that opportunity available to me.
The overall concert offered a wide verity of choir song, from classical pieces composed by Mozart to musical show tunes. The combination of which resulted in an overall enjoyable experience. The concert was not the first choir concert I had ever attended so I went in expecting it to be similar to the high school choir performances I have seen before. I was not expecting the scale of the concert to be so large. Instead of being one choir and an hour-long program there were four groups along with a much longer program. Each of the choir groups had a different dynamic, sound and feel to it. The differences made it interesting.
On November 25, 2017 I attended The Nutcracker ballet performance at the Eisemann Center. The dance was adapted from a story by E.T.A Hoffman with the music by Tchaikovsky. The show was a faithful adaptation of The Nutcracker with the dancers, costumes, sets, and Tchaikovsky’s music all playing an integral part in depicting the story in an entertaining way. Overall, the presentation was successful in portraying the holiday classic that is The Nutcracker, and the majestic sets and costumes along with the music allowed for sustained attention and spectacle that was still true to the narrative of The Nutcracker. The production did this by having grand, bright costumes and sets that resembled the time period of The Nutcracker and depicted the setting of the dances, the original music by Tchaikovsky which was able to produce the emotions that come with the story, and lighting techniques that showed the weather and time of day which helped show what scenes were being told throughout the performance.
The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand.
