Juveniles should be charged as adults in cases of extreme crimes, such as first-degree murder and rape. This is so that Justice can be delivered, the punishment can be proportionate the crime(s), it acts as a deterrent against future crimes
Everyone, especially in matters of serious crimes, should get the Justice they deserve. In a juvenile court, the sentences will be less stringent because of someone's age. An example is given on the website https://flowpsychology.com/10-pros-and-cons-of-juveniles-being-tried-as-adults/, “In 2006 a 12-year-old girl killed her entire family for not approving of her boyfriend. She was only given 10 years.” Juvenile courts are not allowed to deliver the death penalty. In a situation where the death penalty would

This is in fact false. They still have the same rights as everyone else: habeas corpus, due process, quick trial. In fact, they even gain the right to trial by jury; which they would not have in juvenile court.
As mentioned before sentences in juvenile court will be laxer due to the child’s age. Meaning that a 14-year-old could murder his whole family but receive a much lighter sentence. Should a person who committed several murders be let off with only 10 years? No, it’s not. Unless that person has a plausible reason for the outburst, they should be tried and sentenced as adults. So that the punishment may fit the crime.
Other people argue that Juveniles may not have the mental capacity to know that this is wrong. This is, in fact, wrong in most cases. A child no matter what the age should know that killing or performing other atrocious acts on others is wrong. There are some exceptions such as mental illness and adverse effects from medications. According to https://flowpsychology.com/10-pros-and-cons-of-juveniles-being-tried-as-adults/, “because teenagers have full control over their thoughts and actions. If they do not have the moral compass instilled in them by that time, then they are very likely to commit more crimes.” This implies that, should teenagers not be tried as adults, they may never learn their lesson.Even if they don’t from harsher punishments; at least they will
In today's society, there are many crimes going on. Adults are not the only ones that commit crimes. One issue today is that juvenile offenses and whether juvenile offenders should be tried as adults in criminal court. A common phrase that is often used in this case of young juveniles committing crimes is "Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time." This phrase should be cleared to people that juveniles are not adults, and with this being said it will not make them one. "It has redefined juvenile offenses by treating most of them as delinquent acts to be adjudicated within a separate juvenile justice system that is theoretically designed to recognize the special needs and immature status of young people and emphasize rehabilitation over punishment" (Steinberg). While juveniles should be responsible for their actions, and should be held accountable for the crime, then the juvenile justice system is design to determine the consequences. Youths are still minors and are less mature. They often face a lot of negative peer pressure. Therefore, juveniles should not be tried in courts as adults.
They have committed drug and alcohol crimes such as drunk and disorderly, drug abuse, sexual offenses, such as prostitution and rape. There are instances where juveniles are tried as adults depending on the offense, the severity of the crime and age. Juveniles have been sentenced to a life sentences and have also stood on death row. I think that if a juvenile at the age of 15 or 16 commits a crime violent or not and knowingly knows that it is wrong should suffer the consequences of his actions. I think if the court can prove intent, mental stability, has evidence and can show the juvenile understood his actions he should be liable.
Juveniles should be considered as adults at courts because they need to learn from their mistakes, they are old enough to know what they do, and they have to be considered as adults on how bad the crime was at court. Juveniles should be considered as adults so they can learn about what they did wrong.
Juveniles should be tried as adults because they only serve a few years in prison, they deserve a harsher punishment, and they are committing crimes at a younger age.
Since the beginning of time justice officials have been faced with a difficult decision should juvenile offenders be given smaller sentences because of their age. Today officials still are having trouble with this situation. Some experts believe some offender should be tried as adults , others believe no juvenile offenders should be tried as adults and some even think all should be tried as adults. My opinion Juvenile criminals the way all offenders should be tried.
Teens should be charged as juveniles but also it depends on the crime, if its first or second
Society views minors as immature and naïve. Until they reach adulthood, they are incapable of thinking through their decisions. This is certainly what Greg Krikorian believes as he makes his argument in his article, “Many Kids Called Unfit for Adult Trial…”, that minors are incapable of defending themselves during trial. Krikorian states, “The study… found that one-third of the eleven- to – thirteen year olds studied and 20 percent of those fourteen to fifteen years old had levels of reasoning comparable to those of mentally ill adults judged not competent to stand trial.” It is important to remember that these teens are not mentally ill, and it
My own view is that juveniles should be treated the same way an adult would because all juveniles know right from wrong. In a recent Supreme Court Case labeled MILLER V. ALABAMA AND JACKSON V. HOBBS, 132 S. CT. 2455 (2012) the issue of harsh punishment toward juveniles is addressed and revise due the feel of unjust punishment toward juveniles. The Supreme Court ruled during this case that "for juveniles, mandatory life without parole sentences violate the Eighth Amendment " (Rovner 1).
Juveniles being tried as adults I fully believe that juveniles who commit adult crimes should be treated as an adult when being punished. Many people are against juveniles being tried as adults. Aside from being evaluated and diagnosed with a mental illness, I believe they should be charged like an adult if a juvenile commits heinous crimes, especially murder. If a teenager uses a gun or any other deadly weapon to assault another person, I believe his/her mind is developed enough to know that his/her actions could result in the other person's death.
Minors who commit adult crimes should be charged as adults because, it gives justice to the victim, minimize crimes by juveniles, and mature mental ability starts earlier. Minors who commit adult crimes should be charged as adults because, it gives justice to the victim, minimize crimes by juveniles, and mature mental ability starts earlier.
Juveniles should not be tried as adults because it is proven that children are incapable of making a rational, mature decision on their own. Adolescents have a shorter experience in the world, their brains are still developing, they do not have the same responsibilities or rights as adults and they are easily influenced at this age. Let 's say a child around the age of twelve is playing with two other friends at his house. His mother and father both work constantly so these children are alone. They are snooping around in his dad 's room and find a gun. Not being old enough to understand or realize it 's not a good idea they begin to play with it. One of the children pulls the trigger not considering what could happen. He accidentally shoots on of the other children and he was instantly killed. They decide to call 911 and before they arrive the child that accidentally shot the other tells his friend to tell them that it was his fault because hed get in trouble by his mom. The boy agrees and tells the police it was his fault and he is sent to adult prison for the maximum sentence. Children are both easily influenced and not as intelligent compared to an adult. These children are so immature and underdeveloped they should not and cannot make rational decisions on their own.
Many have discussed and argued if Juveniles should be charged as adults. Then there's others that believe that they shouldn't be charged as adults. However, juveniles should be tried as adults because they committed a crime in which they must pay for which they also knew it is wrong. They should be tried should depend on what age they are and what fractions have they encountered like rape, abuse, etc. If a 5 year old were to be playing with another kid and perhaps that 5 year old kills the child they have absolutely no idea of what they have done they are far too young to understand what they are doing or have done. Most of the time you have to take care of children because they are putting items in their mouth that they don’t know what it
First, I believe that juveniles should not be tried as adults because their mentalities are not fully developed.
To Be An Adult Depending on factors of the offense, age and past criminal history, some juvenile offenders should be tried as adults – if not to be placed in jail, to receive the help that they desperately need. There’s already a system in place, but ultimately it all comes down to the judge and the jury. Of course it’d make life simpler if we were to just throw them aside and send them off to where they can no longer do us any harm, but even though it sounds like the very best idea for our own self-preservation; it doesn’t help them, in fact it only hinders. Life is far too short, and if we choose to give up on our nation’s youth because of their misdeeds at such a young age then what hope should we have for their generation and the future of this country? None, because we have set them all up for failure.
No matter their age, when it comes to serious offenses juveniles should be tried as adults because the understanding of what is right and wrong is known by young children, if they have the ability to commit a crime they should be charged as adults, and without them being trying
