What does it mean to be an American? To be an American it means to be able to be yourself and not be afraid of being you. People shouldn’t be ashamed and afraid to do something in life and have to worry of others opinions. Being an American allows you to stand up for what you want and make our own decisions. It allows us to have freedom of speech, individual rights, and being able to live life to the fullest and most of all be proud. Harry Truman once said , “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” This quote is one of my favorite quotes because to me, it means that we should not be afraid to do anything. It explains that no matter how hard things get
What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now.
What does being American mean to me?As America is a first world country, world police, economic powerhouse, and land of the free. With an advanced nation like ours comes advanced ideals, beliefs, religions, so on and so forth. Cores are a fundamental requirement for a nation to successfully prosper and communication within ourselves and other nations is a must to prevent an economic collapse, eventually leading into failed state status. I see cores as spiritual possessions that you use as a celestial guide to govern your life and should abide by, at the same level as morals. As you read this opinion based passage, ask yourself, what American cores effect you?
What does it mean to be an American? Being an American means a multitude of different things. It depends on who the person is and what is the most important to them. It may be that they are free, or that they are proud, or simply because they appreciate the country’s history. This country has so many privileges that other countries do not have, and this sets it aside from them.
There are many aspects to what it means to be an American. Freedom and equality are two things that defines you as an American. Also, depending on the area you live can have an impact on if you are considered an American. There are many things that surprised me throughout the essays in the book. What surprised me the most was the fact that we all had immigrants in our family that came to the United States from another country, so they were at one time immigrants. Also, I never really thought how America is a lot of different people coming together with all different religions.
What does it mean to be American? Webster’s defines an American as: Of or relating to the United States of America or its people, language, or culture. My definition to be American means that you’re free. Free to say what you want. Free to choose your own religion. Free to vote for whom you want. Free to grow up and pick the occupation you desire. Free to go where you please. Free of being a slave to no one! Free to love whom you want. Most importantly, free to get a good education. Just being free period! As a child, I was taught those things to grow up and realize you’re not as free as they portray us to be.
By birth, all humans are given the basic right to an identity. It tells people who we are, and sometimes, tell the owner who they are. However, some countries even take this necessity away. In the United States of America, despite all of its flaws, gives her citizens these basic rights. Some of these rights are the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to petition the government, right to bear arms, and civil trial by jury. Many countries, unfortunately, do not even give their residents these rights.
What it means to be American? Everybody you ask this question to will have a completely different response. Some responses might have similarities but none will be exactly the same. In the beginning of the year my response was “To be an American means having a rich history, having opportunities to better ourselves, and having freedoms.” Unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities or freedoms. Native Americans, who are indigenous, dealt with having their freedoms taken away, less opportunities even though they had rich history in this land before it was taken away from them. Look at what Zitkala-Sa endured. Not only that, but African Americans have fought long and hard for freedom and equality as well. W.E.B. Du Bois stood for
To be an American in my opinion means you have freedom, and the right to do what you desire. An American can decide what sports they want to play, what classes they want to take, what job they want in the future. Being an American means that you have the right to choose your religion and the type of person you are. Also, to be an American it means that you serve the country in the best way possible and respect those who do serve the county, such as soldiers. Being an American means you have the right to vote for a worthy president. Many countries lack the privilege that America has, and sometimes a person doesn't realize the opportunities they get when living in America.
To be American means that you had to be born here or have something that says that you are an american citizen. Also that you should have some kind of pride towards America, you should be happy that you live here. You should know what is happening in America and/or around it. You should know the history behind it, so you could call yourself American. America means that I am free to do anything you want as long as it’s legal. Living in america, lets you choose a lot of things for example, when I grow up, I can pick any job that i want. I could have a good education. I could vote for any president i want. Also, i get to choose any sport I want and what kind of food i want to eat and at what time i want to eat. To be american means to be fair
Now that I am older and a little wiser, what best describes Americans are our belief system and our ability to overcome obstacles and thrive. Our government is made of and by the people of America. Despite our differences, in America, if you work hard you can succeed. America is boundless, her tenacity is protected, and her essence is freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
As America has grown more diverse, the definition of an American has changed through the past centuries. America is not what it used to be, our nation no longer cares about giving and caring for others. Americans are so caught up in the commotion of being on top and not about what goes on in the world around them. There are many reasons the definition of an American has changed but these are just a few of the generalized reasons: how Americans no longer care for giving, society changing, and the desire for wanting more.
America, the place where hopes and dreams come true, where people come to look for better opportunity is welcome to people from every nation out there. America doesn’t just have one nationality, it is full of immigrants, who come for a better life. The phrases ‘I’m an American’ is a part of our everyday vocabulary, but what does it mean? To be an American means to be yourself and have pride in what you do. Every American has a special skill to contribute to make America what it is today. That’s what makes America unique compared to other countries in the world.
America is like the golden gate to all; to the ones who have high hopes and dreams, or the ones who view it as the only option for a better life for themselves and their family. For decades others have labeled America as “the better life” but what does it truly mean to be an American? It means that all have the right to “The Pledge of Allegiance" and can vote for President, the Mayor, and city government officials. And be welcomed to the place of no sleep for a dreamer and a wild imagination for those who fight to make it here. To be an American is an honor and privilege, also to be free and prideful to live in the United States, finished off with high respect and love for one’s country.
Being an American means to have opportunities that are available to us that others don’t get in other parts of the world. The United States of America is a country that is based on being a free country for citizens to have more freedom than anywhere else. It is one of the only countries that give rights to people of different diversities and genders. To be an American means to have opportunities, rights, and freedom.
Webster’s definition of the term “American” is “a person born, raised, or living in the U.S.” But there is so much more to being an American than just living in the U.S. Being an American has nothing to do with the color of your skin or what food you eat or how big your house is. Being an American means having pride in your country and having the freedom to live the life you want to.
