Executive Summary/Abstract American Airlines is looking to expand its market to more wealthy consumers by offering an excusive line of aircraft consisting mostly of first class and business type seating. This new model will be labeled under the title “Elite” and would market routes to and from major city hubs during heavy business traveling hours. American Airlines will position this service as the, “Black Jet” since that would be the standout feature of the aircraft. American can take advantage of its existing market base along with its frequent fliers to sell the experience of a flight experience beyond maximizing passengers. The target motto would be a “flight redefined.” American Airlines Elite would target business, first class, and frequent flying travelers. The Primary marketing objective is to achieve a 4-7% increase in fares per route flown by the increase of ticketing prices even with fewer seats on the aircraft. Status matching will be offered to competing airline frequent flyers to encourage them to travel more with American than their current choose airline. Airlines represents a $783 billion a year industry (Fact Sheet: Industry Statistics, 2014). Being able to expand the market to the high-end segment would create an attraction to a unique service not offered by other major US airlines. Break even cost would be the first year goal while there would be an increase in cost to retrofit aircraft.

Southwest Airlines is a passenger airline company that arranges and provides scheduled flights for passenger and transportation freight services. The company mainly provides, low-fare, point-to-point services all over the US and near-international markets. The headquarters is located in Dallas, Texas and as of December 2014, the company employed over 46,278 people. The company was founded by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher in 1971. Southwest was the first airline to introduce the frequent mile program. This took place in the mid 1980’s. This type of program allowed passengers to add up traveled miles to use later as credit on a future airline ticket. The traveled miles would add up and would also reduce the price of a ticket. Southwest created the idea of senior discount, fun fares and the fun packs. These were perks that attracted people from different age groups. When Southwest originally was incorporated, the idea was to operate in three cities in Texas, but after taking over Morris Air and TranStar in 1987, this gave them a cutting advantage in the airline industry.

The classic airline model consists of First Class, Business Class and Economy, and the demographics that make up the classes have both similarities and differences to the other classes. In the US, Southwest has been a long-running success and JetBlue a strong new competitor, but in other countries this business model has proven exceptionally successful. Allegiant Travel Company, parent company of Allegiant Air, is a low-cost airline carrierthat caters exclusively to the leisure traveler. There are currently 980 employees that manage the whole company (allegiantair.com). They are known for their innovative and sustainable business models based on keeping fares low and providing additional services for customers.
There are companies that are laid out in various parts of the word. The company that I had chosen the AMR Company, the industry it operates in is the Airlines. The AMR Company operates in the Airline industry and its home country/domestic environment is in the Fort Worth, Texas of the USA. AMR (parented of American Airlines) was founded back in the 1920’s by a young aviator named Charles A. Lindbergh who flew mail in DH-4 biplanes and eventually form into a modern-day American Airlines. In November of 2007 the AMR Corporation had planned to divestiture the American Eagle to its own regional carrier in 2008.
The airline industry has always been a fiercely competitive sector. Since the invention of low-cost carriers, also known as no-frills or
JetBlue Airways, the latest entrant in the airlines industry has gone through the initial stages (entrepreneurial and collectivity) of the organizational life cycle rapidly under the successful leadership of David Neelman. JetBlue Airways is currently in the formalization stage of the life cycle where in it needs to create procedures and control systems to effectively manage its growth. Also as it proceeds to grow further to reach the elaboration stage, JetBlue needs to continue to align itself with the environment in order to maintain its sustained growth.
The United States economy has been able to grow steadily after the 200 recessionand because of this, most businesses have been able to also grow effectively. The airline should therefore invest heavily in refurbishing its aircrafts and also investing in projects that will attract employees. To fully take advantage of this project, the United airline should embrace good marketing startegies and also provide competitive prices to its customers.
Small business customers and leisure travelers were the ones benefited the most from American’s new fare structure. Previously, small business customers who does not have the power and volume to negotiate with airline companies for discounted deals had to pay higher rates for first-class or coach tickets. American’s new cost structure reduced the full coach fares which allowed small business customers to purchase flight tickets at cheaper prices more conveniently. Leisure travelers, unlike business travelers, have more flexibility in terms of travel dates, thus allowing them to take advantage of the advance-purchase discounts and Saturday-night stay discounts under the new fare system.
