It's around that time of year where some of us music enthusiasts ponder what albums we're most thankful for.
The albums you choose doesn't necessarily express that you think they're greatest albums ever made. Of course, some might, but not the majority. If you're someone that appreciates music as much as myself, then you do this every year around Thanksgiving. Simply because it's always exhilarating to reminisce about albums and once again experience how they made us feel when we first heard them.
After strong consideration on my part and an intense game of "process of elimination," I've come up with five albums that I'm thankful for. Again, I'll probably end up doing this every year, but I promise every year they'll be different. Not

For that reason, I could relate to so much of what Jenkins expressed on this album.
How can anyone overlook the moment when they realized who their favorite band or artist was? That moment for me occurred back in Summer of 2009. Phoenix released their fourth studio album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix on May 25, 2009. This upbeat, French indie-pop band changed my life and the way I perceived music to this day. What upset me after hearing this album is that I had already missed nearly 10 years of their career.
"Lisztomania," is not only their most popular song on this album but also is likely their biggest hit to this day.
"So sentimental; not sentimental, no!/ Romantic; not disgusting yet," sings frontman Thomas Mars on opener "Lisztomania", sounding like a madman with two tiny creatures whispering into each ear. - Ryan Dombal from Pitchfork
Phoenix typically makes songs about love and they want to ensure that everyone knows that. When this album was released, it was around the time I entered the dating world and helped me get through some heartbreaks. Without getting too sentimental, that is what helps me relate to so much of their lyrics on this album especially. "Do you remember when 21 years was old?" sings Thomas Mars on "Countdown." Overall, it's simply one of those albums for me that can put me in a feel-good mood no matter what's going on and I'll never
There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who blog angrily about how they saw candy canes on the Wal-Mart shelves before Halloween. To satisfy those in the former group, radio stations have been jumping on the 24-hour holiday music train since the mid-1990s. To the disappointment of the latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than ever this year.
The last Thursday in November, also widely celebrated as Thanksgiving in the United States. The smells of sweet corn, stuffing, and mashed potatoes with gravy swirl around the households of many Americans. Thursday night the family cleans their leftover turkey and mashed potatoes off the table while listening to the radio station. An all too familiar genre of music starts to play on the radio. Christmas music has been a tradition for many years in the United States. Radio stations often start playing the catchy holiday jingles the second the average Thanksgiving dinner has ended. However, one song stands out in particular among the rest. Anyone with a radio during the Christmas season has heard this overplayed, subtly disturbing song.
Phish has inherited the legacy of the Grateful Dead. A responsibility that includes: playing a different set every night, constant jamming and experimenting. Phish is trailed across the country by adoring fans that think their heroes can do no wrong. What makes them so special is that their music winds together. It is full of freedom and happiness. Their lyrics are totally original; they have this weird way of looking at the world and when they express this in their songs it takes you to a whole different level of thinking.
I see my eyes slide shut as my hands begin to to reach for the stars. Lily’s body is pressed against mine and we move in sync to the waves of Alexia’s chorus. All of her songs have the most exquisite familiarity to them. Several songs in they announce that they will be playing a song titled “30 Seconds of Sh*t”, a song perfectly fitting its title. We are already at the front of the crowd, which I am immediately grateful for. During this song is the only time their crowd gets rougher, pushing and moshing, teenage angst finding its release. “Goldilocks Spot,” which I’d argue is their most popular song, has beautiful lines such as “I’ll medicate with the way your eyes see,” and “How many of you stayed when my angels fell.” “Word Salad” is an ode to depression, with lines like “Lack of contact with who you are will leave a little more than a
“The standard set of albums from the 60s and 70s that every boomer likes. Boomers try to get younguns to listen to dad rock by loading up "best albums ever" lists with them. Dad rockers have no desire to listen to recent music and are stuck in the past.”
Far too often in our selfish-minded culture, we forget to be thankful for the many blessings we have. There is a roof over my head, clothes on my back, food on the table, and I've never gone hungry. I'm thankful that I am homeschooled; I do not have to deal with bullies at school and I am able to have a more flexible schedule so that I have an increased amount of free time to spend with family. I am also thankful for my little sister and my parents who care for me and work hard to provide me with everything I need and want. In addition, I feel grateful for my artistic and musical talent. However, most of all, I am deeply grateful for my entire family, the warmth, love, and companionship they bring, and my relationship with
Rock and pop have been evolving areas of music for the last fifty years. They have created riches for people, and have created artifacts that are now considered precious. Christie’s Rock & Pop Memorabilia by Peter Doggett and Sarah Hodgson describes the basic information of artists and their now famous music and artifacts. If you are wondering what a memorabilia is, in Merriam-Webster’s dictionary a memorabilia is defined as, “objects or materials that are collected because they are related to a particular event, person, etc.” The ages of rock and pop have had an abundance of memorabilia that is worthy of recognition.
Abbey Road is heralded as one of the greatest rock ‘n roll albums ever. It grinds with hard rock and sways with soft guitar. The variety of the tracks provides something for everyone. It was created in 1969 at the famous Abbey Road studios. George Martin and Geoff Emerick, who had produced many other Beatles’ albums, contributed to this work. This album is one of the more famous albums of the Beatles, who are one of the most popular bands ever. Almost every piece of this album, even the cover, is art works in themselves.
The first thing is devouring cake, which who doesn’t like cake. The second thing I love to do is swim through the ocean and the last thing I love to do is dance. I prefer dancing foolishly at home by myself in my room to all types of music, but especially this song, the song is so good and I love it. This song is influential and what I needed and focusing on the song. I worked on me as a person. The third song is “The Living Proof” by Mary J. Blige. In the song, she sings about the long journey to be who you are, and I have gone on a long journey. However, I also have a lot of work on myself, in addition it takes me a while to smile not only for me but for other people. If I should ever have to do my whole journey again, I would because the journey is just worth it and it made me a stronger person. I can relate to an uphill climb because it was a climb just for me to be here in college learning my major. It was a difficult fight, but worth it because, in the end, I got a bigger reward than just money, I got a better life than I had before. I have thought about that song and I appreciate the journey and who I am today. These three songs and the song now tells of the prolonged process it took to be the
The Grateful Dead, the most popular so called underground band of all time. This band has underwent many changes, some good and others bad throughout their thirty or so years of performing. I plan to prove that a band that has remained together for thirty plus years isn’t as easy as many would assume. In fact I would have to say the “down” times in the band almost equal the outrageously great time they had. Despite all the down times the amazing music of the Grateful Dead always made it possible to bring smiles to empty faces anytime anywhere. Even now that the bands figure head (Jerry Garcia) has passed on, the family that he created (Deadheads) and left behind will never forget him or his music.
Music has played a large role in my life for some time, now. My musical interests vary, greatly as I try to appreciate each and every song equally. I believe this because I know that each artist creates this work of art which takes a great deal of time and effort. With that being said my ten songs, for the most part, a bit different from one another, but they are each very special to me in their own way. I would place these songs in the ‘indie’ category. My older sisters introduced me to this genre of music at a young age. I appreciate them for this because I would not listen or know the songs I cherish now, without them exposing it to me. I chose these songs because of that reason. Both of my sisters, Cristine and Gabriela, have been great
What I personally like about this song is the way I interpreted it; I’m too young to know what love truly is, but seeing the way people talk and sing about falling in love is truly beautiful in my perspective. Aside from the message, I’m truly just fascinated with Frank Sinatra's voice and how a single man can leave such a huge mark in our music
Now days all the kids want to grow up too fast and when they are done with school there going to miss the days when they were young. The song also talks about like there's no dinners at grandma's house anymore because this generation has a different taste in things they like to do. The guys who sing the song want to go back to when they were kids because they know it's hard to survive out in the world because you don't have your mom to support you have to work and make your own money and pay your own bills. When i was a kid i wanted to grow up to i wanted to do things that adults can do but this song made want to not grow up because you're on your own after your done with school and hearing that they want to be kids made me think that life must be hard if they want to be kids again.
One of my favourite bands of all time is Nirvana, because this was the first rock band I started listening to at the age of twelve and this established my taste of music until nowadays. However, they had a big influence on their contemporary pop-rock musical industry in the early nineties, as well. Despite the fact that they released only three studio albums in seven years, Nirvana is often regarded as one of the most influential, effective and remarkable rock bands of the century.
Another song that that was allowed people to relate to was The Message by Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. This song talks about the artist's experience with poverty. This is related to some people were in an identical situation as him. These songs show people that there is hope for the future that they are not alone with their struggles. If these songs did not relate to the audience then the songs would not speak to the era of the
