Moral is a principle of right and wrong, and a standard to define a person’s behavior. People have different moral standards, it is moulded through nurturing and is changed as one gains more life experiences. Moral ethics also varies in different countries of different culture and religious beliefs. There are some common principles that people use in everyday life, for instance the Golden Rule (Versions of the Golden Rule in 21 World Religions) (you should treat others the way you want to be treated) and the Hippocratic Oath (Greek Medicine) (Primum non nocere/ First do no harm), which is widely used in medical ethics. “Jam-ing” is very common in universities, and “jam” basically means stealing. “Jam-ing” food in the pantry in my hostel is very common, people have to stick labels on the package of their food before placing them into the refrigerator. Some people thinks that “jam-ing” is not a bad thing as the food that are placed in the pantry are not very valuable, and they think that everyone are “jam-ing” one another’s food so it is okay to “jam”. However, I have an experience, that my roommate “jam-ed” a pack of drinks in the refrigerator and was being openly scolded online in a social platform. My roommate talked to me about this and she decided to purchase a new pack of drinks and put if back into the refrigerator with a memo on it apologizing. It is obvious that “jam-ing” things is wrong because it is the same as stealing, and it is destroying one’s moral character. I believe that this “little” behavior we do now will affect our behavior in the future. If we “jam” things now, we are more likely to steal things in the future. In my own standard, I think that “jam-ing” things is not acceptable, but to some people, it is normal. It is crucial for us to develop our own moral standard, which we believe is the best for ourselves and to others, which we believe is the best that we could do in any circumstances. Everyone has different moral standards as we all have different life experiences, different cultural and religion background. Despite our complex background, as a university student, we should learn to decide what is right and what is wrong. There are things that do not have right or wrong, it is left for us to decide on our own, and we must stand firm when we face any obstacles and difficulties, and should not be shaken to do things that violate our own moral standard. Once we do thing that violates our original moral standard for the first time, we would do it for the second time, and more. It is very dangerous once we violate our moral standard so we have to be very careful when deciding every day moral
