Whether it is by using the written word, a speech, or any other medium, in order to convey a message to an audience, one must have an effective way of communicating one's ideas. The Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that effective speakers use three kinds of appeals to make their arguments convincing; logos, the speaker's actual message, ethos, the credibility of the speaker, and pathos, or the emotional appeal the speaker arises in his or her audience. These rhetorical appeals are present in many aspects of everyday life, including websites. Sites such as elpasozoo.org use these three appeals to effectively communicate with those who visit their page.
The logos appeal is the most important element of a website or written work because it conveys the speaker’s main ideas to the reader. On a website, the home page is vital to not only the person’s experience on the site, but also the overall

In addition, there are some resources for those who wish to educate themselves in matters of protecting wildlife and the environment. For instance, the flyer "Candy with a Cause" talks about palm oil; where it comes from, its uses and how it impacts Malaysia's and Indonesia's wildlife.
The flyer continues by depicting the situation in which many animal species native to Malaysia and Indonesia are forced out of their habitats due to the deforestation efforts to make way for palm oil trees. This deforestation drives species to the edge of extinction. Palm oil is used in many edible goods such as candies and personal care products. In order to diminish this exhaustive deforestation, the reader, identified as a "consumer conservationist" is encouraged to only purchase products that use 100% certified sustainable palm oil by purchasing their sweets from a list of brands listed in the
An effective piece of writing sends its message to the audience and makes them agree with them. In writing Ethos, Pathos, and logos are used to convince the reader of author's argument. Ethos is used to build your credibility and establish why the reader should listen to you. This leads validity to your claim because you will be seen as a credible source. After you’ve established you deliver your message with logos.
The thesis of this narrative is that the narrator had been explaining how fortunate she had been to be able to work full time despite being partially disabled, and is trying to bring false hopes for herself so she wouldn’t be discouraged for who she really is.
Logos, ethos, and pathos are essential components used in advertising. By learning to recognize logos, ethos, and pathos in advertising, we are able to understand the message and what is being portrayed. (Albert et al, 2014), suggested that Aristotle postulated that a speaker’s ability to effectively convince an audience is constructed on how well the speaker appeals to that audience in three different areas: logos, ethos, and pathos. These appeals together form what Aristotle calls a rhetorical triangle.
The rhetorical appeal logos are used throughout the chapter to back up the author's argument. The author uses logos to approach to the audience by discussing what are true facts and allowing the audience to accept those facts. For example, she includes in the chapter that the teenagers she spoke with all received cell phones between the ages of nine and thirteen. She even includes how having a phone can exclude the teens from interacting with seeing friends, going out to watch moves, shopping, and spending time at the beach. Turkle even uses examples in the real world to back up her argument.
On a normal day at the public transit Rachel North was heading to work, but there was a strange feeling in the air. Moments after the train trundled off a powerful gust knocked Rachel to the ground and everything went dark. When Rachel regained consciousness she noticed people scattered about the transit car. She felt warm and wet. Rachel took a brief moment before realizing she was covered in someone’s blood.
One appeal that Prose makes to logos is when she discusses how unlikely it is that a student exposed to only middlebrow writing will strive to read anything more or write anything better than mediocre (para 17). Here, Prose is trying to express why high school literature should be more decisively picked. If high schools lazily pick weak literature for students to learn from, then it logically follows that students will learn to read and write like that. Another appeal that Prose makes to logos is when she describes the inadequacy of Angelou’s I know Why the Caged Bird Sings saying, “To hold up this book as a paradigm of memoir, of thought--of literature--is akin to inviting doctors convicted of malpractice to instruct our medical students”
Pathos/ethos/logos A lot of pathos were used a lot by Donald trump in the debate. For example, trump was trying to persuade to the people that the stop and frisk law would work. He was coming off in the debate, like that would be the only thing that stops the crime in the inner cities. Hillary was also trying to convince to the crowd how trump was a racist (which is true) and how he disrespects women. Donald trump also began interrupting Hillary while she was talking in her debate, when he felt she was saying something that got to him.
On a website the opening page is vital to not only the persons experience on the site, but also the over all impression on the subject. There are several ways that a persons perception can be manipulated to feel a certain way, on a website; the layout, accessibility of information, and images. When accessing the El Paso Zoo website the first thing that catches the attention of the audience is the back ground. Which is the El Paso skyline with the franklin mountains accompanied by some exotic animals. This creates a personal connection with the views by combining something that is familiar and has emotional connection with something new that brings a new excitement to this emotional
This text of mine has been written using mostly logos, some pathos, and a pinch of ethos. I have split my text up in different segments. In each segment there is a different combination of mostly one or two different persuasive modes. the text is made of seven segments.
The term Rhetoric can be defined as “the faculty of observing in any given case the available means of persuasion.” In order to use rhetoric devices correctly you need; ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or credibility of the persuader. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason.
Throughout Baldwin’s essay, he encourages changes in education for blacks, but he does so using ethos and pathos. For example, he starts off by notifying teachers that they will meet the most determined resistance from society, as he has in his writings. This shows his credibility by informing the teachers that they do not struggle alone in this issue. The use of ethos leads him to the use of pathos by providing an example of an African American child growing up, drawing conclusions about the world, but not having an explanation for it. This really makes the audience contemplate about their childhoods.
Ethos, Logos, Pathos “Just like grownups, kids need different kinds of incentives to get through the day, some highbrow and some low, some short-term, some longer-term”-Roland Fryer, economics teacher at Harvard. A teacher at one of the best education institutions in the world believes that an incentive is necessary to motivate them. Young adults should be rewarded for good grades by money because they prefer it to other incentives, money can be used to purchase educational necessities, and it provides another positive to the stressful life of a teenager. Money should be given to good students because they prefer it when compared to other rewards. “If I was paid for good grades, I would work harder at school”- A survey participant who agreed
In today’s world, our lives are covered in the sense of credibility, emotional appeal, and logical appeal. These three modes of persuasion are used to achieve the audiences’ attention and influence them towards an idea. The three modes are called ethos, pathos, and logos. An example of a famous speech that used these three modes and more would be Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address which was addressed in November 19, 1863. In his speech, Lincoln’s audience was the Union, Lincoln supporters, and the deceased among the Union. The address claim that America, which our founding fathers united, is sustaining many issues that have been affecting the stability of this nation. The civil war caused a breakup of our nation since many men died by fighting
Logos is presented as a form of logic and offers the most relatable method of communication to an audience, as it is so commonly used. Since Aristotle can be the most authoritative on the three forms of appeals, logos can be viewed
While the music is very important to setting the tone of the video, the actors and the dogs played a very important role also. You saw both the boy and dog grow up and mature. The director used pathos to bring out the emotions of the viewers. This idea of using pathos helps the commercial get its point across because IAMS dog food is suppose to help your dog live a long, happy and healthy life. Throughout the commercial, you see the boy and his dogs journey from childhood and puppyhood to adulthood. Even though the dog food makes the dog happy and live a better life, that influences how he treats the boy as well. As a young boy, whenever they would play together or if the boy was sad, the dog would lick the boys face and always cheer him up.
