In my non-fictional anecdote, the events that happen are quite plain and there’s no real escalating action. There also isn’t a lot of description to the setting and characters, so the goal with my fictional anecdote was to elaborate on the details that I’ve forgotten over the years and make the story more appealing by creating fictional action. Small details can make a story seem more real and The one place I found the need to add more description to was Newburgh. I exaggerated how bad it is there, in order to create more of a mood that can be connected with the way I ended my story. Since I haven’t been to Newburgh in about three or four years, I tried to take memories of it and make it seem like a much more impoverished place. I also wanted to add some minor details of the pool, especially since my memories of the way it looks are very faint, to make it seem like a safer place in contrast to the town around it. When Gary’s wallet gets stolen, I wanted that to taint that seemingly safe place with the world around it. …show more content…
As a kid, being there when my friend’s dad’s wallet got stolen and then going to the police station was much more exciting than it is looking back on it. When I realized how boring it is, I wanted to make the parts from the rising action to the end more appealing to read. By the time the action is supposed to pick up in my original anecdote, it really just plateaus. Adding fictional elements eliminated the plainness of what really happened and I decided to embellish everything that happened starting from when Gary left our spot at the pool to get us ice
Wayne C.Booth is the first introducer of the term ‘unreliable narrator’ back in 1962. In his perspective, a narrator is “reliable when he speaks for or acts in accordance with the norms of the work, unreliable when he does not” (1983: 158–59). In a nutshell, an unreliable narrator gives the readers either incomplete or inaccurate information. In the literary context, authors use this type of technique to add a twist to the plot or the ending of the story for it creates mystery.

Langston Hughes is considered to be one of the most well known poets/writers in the modern era. One of his most notable works was a series of fictional short stories called Tales of Simple. In these tales, Hughes uses symbolism to express his feelings and views on African American history through the character Jesse B. Semple. In literary terms, the word “symbolism” is defined as being a person, object or event that suggests more than its literal meaning. In Langston Hughes’ “Tales of Simple”, the author uses the main character’s name, feet and view on a type of Jazz music to symbolize the life of an African American and the effect of slavery, discrimination and racism on blacks.
Sociological Autobiography When I was a young boy, my parents used to always tell me how fortunate I was to be able to grow up in the United States and live the American dream. Both of them grew up in a third world country and they always said that not many people would make it out of poverty. I’d ask why this was the case and they said it was because weren’t lucky enough to have access to a higher education and there weren’t many career opportunities out there.
“The single story creates stereotypes and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.” said Chimamanda Adichie in her TED talk speech seven years ago. She is spreading awareness about the value of working against spreading a single story in a culture and community. She is correct because people should not be influencing a single story to represent a whole community of many different stories.
In the United States a “single story” exists for what groups of people? How does this hinder the personal and professional welfare of these groups? This idea of a “single story” narrative is rampant in the United States today. A list of those who are viewed through the lens of a “single story” includes, black Americans, Hispanic individuals, our nation’s homeless population, those with disabilities and even women. Although this list is incomplete, these are the primary groups that come to mind when I consider who a “single story” narrative may have hindered.
In my undergraduate career, I have been a declared double major in History and a Secondary Education licensure program, in addition to a Political Science minor. I have completed my history degree and am preparing for my professional semester to complete my licensure program. I have come to the realization that while I thoroughly love history and education, I do not want to be a teacher. These passions have not been diminished, however; I want to take my passions and channel them into helping a larger audience of people. I want to work in a public library.
Children have a tendency to bring out the very best in people. I can say I have been fortunate to have four little blessings of my own. I consider each of them as a blessing and each day I am reminded of how much they mean to me. My children have brought out the best in me--parts that I never knew existed. As children grow, so do parents. I have evolved into a better person with the courage to overcome all obstacles because of the love that I have for my children.
The genre of this text is Nonfiction. I know it is nonfiction because he says stuff that has happened to him in the past or stuff he has done. He also tries to persuade others to e a leader and don’t be like him. The main idea and the purpose of this story is to persuade children to try and be a leader and don’t joke others so you won’t feel bad about yourself. I said this is the main idea because it talks about how people shouldn’t follow what he did in school and that they should remember the golden rule. The point of view of this narrative was in first person narrative. It showed imagery. An example of imagery is where he put icy hot in his teammates shorts. The mood of the story would be regret fullness because he was regretting being mean
Unable to open my eyes, waking up trying to identify where I was, pedestrians stared, pointed and yelled “Oh! My god. Call 911”. Cars drove by. The sirens were heard but not spotted. What Happened? Where was I? I wept as if the entire world, and all of its beauty, had come to an end. And in a way, it had. On the night of April 7,1997 my thin body flew from the backseat passenger side of a Nissan Sentra crashing through the front passenger window onto the roadway of Old Town, Staten Island.
My whole family enter the United States by my grandfather, he served as a military man in haiti, and enter her by a boat and year later when he became a resident brought all of us, my goal is to be successfully and make my parents and grandfather proud.
If we come to have an understanding that fictional objects have existence that is only minimal existence, then following from this we can explain that fictional objects cannot be physical objects even when having causal effects. The effects that fictional objects can have are never purely physical and thus any fictional object cannot be upgraded to a state of existence greater than the minimal existence that it is currently at. So how does this viewpoint relate to theories that we have? We discussed characters of classic literature that were easily understood to be classical fiction characters. But when you begin addressing topics such as god as a fiction, how do you stop at this point and not consider any sort of theory of knowledge a fiction. If a theory does not have any physical evidence then how do we consider it to be anything but a fiction?
On a cold fall evening in the town of Dankfurt, Alaska with a small population of 73. There was a boy named Derek. Derek was just an ordinary boy who attended the school of Winterfield which was 10 miles away. He did this because his town had no school along with two other friends. Every morning he and his friends would wake up at five-thirty to walk to school. Because of the Alaskan time zones it was dark during the day and light at night.
I am a 26 year old male and an Afghanistan Veteran, I am as of right now trying to find my path in life and working my way through Polk state college. I am currently aiming for my degree in Engineering technologies and fabrication. I view myself as an astute strong willed guy. I feel that I am also a courageous, funny, caring, protective, outgoing, and family orientated -individual. Though I will admit I do have a few dashes of bullheadedness and ill temperament. I believe these things about me because I have a deep love for my family and for my close friends. I have had the courage to stand up for my country and for things I believe are right. I have a fondness for joking around, but also know when it is not the right time to do so. Though I do find myself getting in heated arguments, and pointless tiffs but what can I say it is who I am, Josh Rowland.
