There is a commercial for the prescription drug Lipitor that appeals to pathos, logos, and ethos. Pathos is used at the beginning of the advertisement because the man describes how he used to swing on a rope when he was young. An emotional connection is made as the man describes his youth, and many adults probably relate to his description. Logos is used in the commercial through the statistics that are displayed. For example, one of the statistics describes how much the drug will lower one’s cholesterol along with diet.
Ethos- Basketball star Kobe Bryant and soccer icon Lionel Messi Pathos- Both stars try to persuade a small kid to pick one of them giving him a resend to pick them, but at the end the commercial what got his attention was the ice cream that the airplane lady brought to him. The target audience of the commercial will be for anyone that want to fly such, but mostly kids.
I find logos from the text, it is in the beginning of the text. The author talks about how many books that her writes and it also has specific years and name on the text. In my opinion, the most obvious example of the ethos is the sentences that the author’s writing, because the author is the professional person in the writing area, so that I think she has the power to let reader believes what she said and what she think. There also have some instances to firm the main idea. In the third paragraph, the author uses the feeling of people to represent sometimes people wants to be the person like them, for example “people tend to look at …… they have to tell” some of people desire to be the writer because they think they can get lots of money.
In this image (figure 2) pathos is the main element that have been used in order to make the image more effective and successful. The emphasis of pathos in this image is in the color and the situation that every side has. The image shows a representation of unhealthy and healthy, contaminated and purity, ultimately life and death. When the audiences see the right side with all this healthy, purity and bright environment they will feel good and exultant because the colors make the psychological comfort. While when they see the other side with the unhealthy, contaminated trees with out leaves it makes them feel bad and scared from losing the environment.
A child is holding a gun. That’s a shocking sight to see, but what’s ironic is the text shown above the child and the object the other girl next to her is holding. It’s clear that the members of the organization is against guns being legal. They’re targeting parents as their audience because they know that demographic can relate to the image. The organization employs pathos to appeal to the viewer’s emotions, values, and beliefs by having children in the image; they want to convince people that guns should be banned.
The term logos cannot be described in one word. It means to convince an audience by use of logic or reason by citing facts, using historical analogies and by constructing logical arguments. Evidence is probably the most crucial part while using logos. The stronger the supporting evidence, the more persuasive the point when appealing to an audience’s sense of reason. One would also say that it is a form of expressionism.
A better, but not perfect appeal is Ethos or an ethical way of convincing the reader to understand the credibility or soundness of the writer. Ethos is a good way to prove a point because it shows the reader that you're a good source of information. Therefore, using this is a good way to support your argument but not the most successful because in only shows his credibility and how believable he is as a writer, however this does not spend enough time showing or proving his argument. In the story Junger states that “ Most disability claims are for hearing loss, tinnitus, and PTSD - the latter two of which can be imagined, exaggerated, or even faked.” (pg.88).
The appeal to logos, ethos, and pathos are used everyday in many instances. A commercial is just one instance, and Gatorade commercials use them very well. The specific Gatorade commercial I chose to use was the one where Kevin Durant has a nightmare about being blocked by Dwyane Wade that aired in 2013. Kevin Durant doesn’t want that dream to come true so he practices very hard all while using Gatorade products. Meanwhile Dwyane Wade has a nightmare that he gets dunked on by KD, so he decides to use Gatorade products while he practices. The commercial is essentially saying that if you use Gatorade products that you will achieve your goals easier, and be more like the great NBA players that use the products as well.
College students are a very unique group of people to market a product to and only few businesses can do it successfully. An eye catching ad for college student can be something that has to deal with the idea of food and being frugal. A successful advertisement aims to capture the three aspects of rhetoric logos, pathos, and ethos. An always growing and competitive market for college students to spend time looking at will be one that carries fast food. This Wendy’s ad does a great job at appealing to the college market by providing food at a low value, having a reputable business, and a design that jumps out at you. Providing an idea of thriftiness charms the demographic of college students because they will always be on the lookout for the cheapest product for the best value.
The first and second words where “Father forgive them for they do not know what they do” and “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” The first words I believe is Jesus forgiving the soldiers and those who condemned him. In other words, I think that this symbolizes how God forgives everyone even for the sins that they have done. The second line I believe symbolizes how Jesus opened the gates of heaven so all of us could go join him in heaven. Besides of what I believe Jesus said these words to the thief that was crucified next to him after he told Jesus to remember him when he went into his kingdom.
Women are always told to be feminine, while men are supposed to be masculine, and 59% of both genders think it’s important. It can be sentimental for women who don’t think of themselves as a feminine being, but it is a fact and also agreed upon by the majority of people. Sojourner Truth is fighting for gender equality and she’s speaking directly to women rights activists. This speech was made in 1851, which made it rough to even have this speech be noticed as her being a woman of color. She was a good speaker and spoke in a serious tone.
Ethos-I speak from a background of well-educated and right-minded people, I can tell you never in my 50 years of life have I seen such transition in people as I see in them when they turn 20.As my masters degree in psychology would let you know I study human beings not just in their adulthood but also in their transition from teen to adult. Pathos-A human being hasn't been nearly through as man y things from birth to their early teens, these little moments that define us in the spawn of 20 years, these small moments as insignificant as they may be define us as people and contribute to write mindedness we carry with us into adult hood. Logos-There is also the case that the human brain doesn't fully develop until the age of 20.Adding to the
“OUCH! I think you just yanked my arm out of its socket,” I griped as a searing pain shot through my shoulder. When I attended my first student government meeting in sixth grade, I wasn’t expecting our orientation to include physical pain; however, upon hearing that we’d be playing the human knot game, I reconsidered my seemingly rational assumption. After everyone formed a circle, we crossed our arms in front of our bodies and joined hands with the people on either side of us. Needless to say, extricating myself from this “knot” proved to be quite a predicament.
Argumentation is not one of my strong points both verbally and on paper. And this fact became even more evident as I began to write this argumentative paper. In this essay I was unable to understand how to incorporate ethos, pathos or logos into my essay. Although the book provided various examples of each I felt that the different examples of pathos, logos and ethos that I used were not enough to express my argument well enough. Especially, since the topic I wrote about was a topic that I did not have any first hand experience on, although I have heard and read about the topic many times before hand.
[Disclaimer: The article is highly subjective, characterized by a lot of generalizations and contains mildly (again subjective) offensive language for ethical filters were breached. And no one is blamed unless their conscience declares them guilty.] Sometimes I am really glad that people put on masks to conceal their intentions for if I saw them for who they are I wouldn’t be able to pretend to be respectful. This article is to all the silent Mills and Boons readers and Fifty Shades of Grey fans, although I don’t read erotica I would love to have those books at display in my household for the sheer judgmental glances that shall be thrown my way by the so called relatives and society (seriously, there is more to those plots than just sex).
