Over the first week, there weren't much activity in the bottle. The bugs hid in the dirt almost 24/7 and that made everything really annoying because I couldn't see what they did above the dirt. They were still alive though because some days later, they finally appeared at the surface. I think that happened because the bugs were still getting use to the environment and they were probably scared to come out in the first place. The flower that we planted in was turning way greener and healthier over the week. That happened because when the flower was bought, the flower wasn't watered enough so it was slowly dieing. Luckily once we planted it in the bottle, there was a whole lot of water for it to drink so the plant became really, really
A two-part study was recently done to show what natural habitat a Pill bug, Armadillidium vulgare, naturally prefers: wet or dry environments along with a light or dark environment. It was hypothesized that a Pill bug would prefer and wet and dark environment based on its natural habitat of soil. For the wet and dry experiment, a coffee filter and soil were placed in each chamber of a double petri dish with one being dampened before being placed in. For the light and dry experiment a light was hung above one chamber of another double-chambered petri dish while the other chamber was covered with aluminum foil, after placing soil in both chambers. An equal number of Pill bugs was placed in each chamber and a study was taken for
Both parties failed to be negligent in this scenario. Although Brian was speeding, Randy failed to yield. The main defense should be whether this accident could have been prevented if Randy hadn’t failed to yield. Both were in the wrong doing as both broke the law. If Brian wasn’t speeding, could he have stopped ahead of time before striking Randy? Both parties were an example of comparative negligence. They each contributed to the accident; therefore, this tort will dictate how the responsibility for this accident will be shared between both of the parties whom were involved and suffered bodily injury or property damage.
In this experiment, we tested three different environments, soil, sand, and a leafy mixture to see which one a pill bug would prefer the most. Originally, we believed that the pill bug would find the leafy substance to be most favorable. Five pill bugs and then a single pill bug was placed in the center so that it could select one of the substrates. The data collected at the end of the experiment opposed our original hypothesis as we discovered that the most favored environment was the soil. This finding could correlate with the dark color of the soil closely matching the color of the pill bug or the moisture in the soil.
Three of the pill bugs went to the scented side, then two of those three came back. The remaining 7 pill bugs moved a little on the same side they were on starting at that interval.
For this experiment, we used a solid piece of styrofoam tray that served as the confines for our experiment. We then gathered three different types of environments, sand, soil, and a leafy mixture, and separated each equally into each corner of the styrofoam board. We used five pill bugs in the first part of the experiment. This created four different settings on the board that the pill bugs could choose from. For the group part of the experiment, we used one stopwatch to keep a total time that the pill bugs were placed in the styrofoam board, a total of five minutes. For this part of the experiment we did not keep track of the total time that the bugs spent in each environment, but instead recorded the environment that the most bugs were
The goal of our experiment was to determine the type of environment that pill bugs prefer. During the experiment, the pill bugs went through three trials. The pill bugs were placed in different environments, such as cold environment (ice), normal environment (room temperature), and hot environment (heat) and their behavior was observed. In the first trial, all the four pill bugs were moving in ice, room temperature, and hot environment. The average turning of bugs was 2.5 turning in ice, 4 turning in room temperature, and 3 turning in the heat. The average round made by bugs was 1.5 round in ice, 1 round in room temperature, and .5 round in heat. In the second trial, all four bugs were moving in ice, room temperature, and heat. The average turning was 1 turning in ice, 2 turning in
The movies/stories of High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game are very similar but different in a way. Kane and Rainsford are the main characters of the stories. The two are being hunted down by their arch enemy. Frank Miller is Kane's enemy, and Zaroff is Rainsford's enemy. Kane's best friend, Harvey, wants to be in charge—the Marshall—after Kane leaves town with his new wife Amy. Rainsford defeats Zaroff, and he might take charge at Ship Trap Island if he decides he wants to. Frank Miller's crew hasn't done anything wrong yet to get arrested; however Zaroff did.
Kenny is a teenager who has experienced uncontrollable bodily and facial movements, various uncontrolled vocalizations, and other compulsions such as excessive hand washing and wringing. He has been treated with Clonidine, Haldol, pimozide and buspirone. This patient was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome. Clonidine is a vasodilator that allows for blood to flow more easily to the brain. This lowers blood pressure and helps treat the tics the patient experiences(1). Haldol and Pimozide are antipsychotics that blocks dopamine receptors in the brain. This would help treat the compulsive behaviors (2). Buspirone is used to treat anxiety disorders. It binds to serotonin receptors in
In the story, the flowers are described as having a fence surrounding them, keeping out any unwanted pests but also, keeping the flowers in. This reflects on Elisa’s life because she, like the flowers, is trapped. It is apparent she feels held back when, as the man is driving away, she whispers to herself, “That’s a bright direction. There’s a glowing there” (321). She clearly feels that her life is dull and that it is not how she wanted to live. Since her husband, Henry, has the control over her life, she is confined to one place and not living or growing to her full potential, just like her flowers.
Health promotion utilises theories and models to guide practice. A theory is the general principles of a framework of ideas in regards to a particular topic. (Merriam-webster.com, 2016) A model is a set plan of action based on theoretical ideas to achieve a set goal. (Merriam-webster.com, 2016)
Neonicotinoid pesticides are a group of chemicals widely used on farm crops, plants, and trees (1). The concern behind these pesticides is the harmful impact on pollinating insects such as honey bees and bumble bees (1). Neonicotinoids are sprayed onto the plant where they are absorbed by the plant and are transported to all parts of the plant including the pollen (see figure 1) (1). Bees then ingest the pesticide via the pollen; specifically, this is the point where the central nervous system of the bees becomes compromised. A large number of deaths in bees is being used as an argument against the use of neonicotinoids (1).
We started off with twenty pill bugs, however two never moved so we did not include those in the data set. Also, many of the pill bugs were more interested in climbing out of the container they were in, and we had to intervene often in order to keep the pill bugs in the container. Many of them climbed the walls and stood on top of each other, preventing other pill bugs from moving around the container. While in the midst of climbing out of the container, several pill bugs ended up flipped on their backs, which wasted time and ruined the pill bug’s chances of moving around. Microscope slides were also used to block off certain areas of the container that were not needed, however these slides fell over often, either preventing a pill bug from moving or allowing the pill bugs to enter another part of the container, which affected the overall results. These problems were expected, since the pill bugs were exploring the entire container, nonetheless, these problems may have been preventable. Using a larger container with more sustainable blockades could have prevented some problems. By adding natural factors into the container like temperature, darkness, and dirt, the pill bugs may have felt more comfortable because they would have felt like they were in their natural habitat. This could have prevented them from trying to escape, allowing them to focus more on the food that was placed in the area. If this experiment was run again, using a more natural based habitat for the pill bugs to explore and allowing more time could possibly overall improve the outcome of the
4. In the Allegory of Human Cave, Plato describes human world as a cave, in which, our perception of “truth” is nothing but a shadow coming from the “sun”. Each of us has been chained so that we’re not able to look at the source behind our back. In my interpretation, Plato implies that the world in which human perceive is like a cave, we might be chained and unable to look beyond the “shadow”. Thus, what we see in the “reality” might not be the reality, but its shadow. Also, Plato describes that the one who broke the chained and explored outside of the cave, once comes back would receive the denial from others. This person, in my opinion, represents the role of philosophers, which is the one who always seeks for the reality or the “sun”. The philosophers are the peers who realizes that the world we perceive is just a shadow, and not that many people are able to realize that. Then, some would ask why we know whether if the world is a shadow. Yes, we don’t. We also don’t know whether if the world is not a shadow. In another word, there isn’t “absolute truth” about the existence of the “reality” we’re living in. Therefore, we need to keep seeking for the “reality” no matter whether it is what it seems to be or not. Then, how can we break the chain that ties us to the “shadow” of reality? One of the answers is to keep questioning. As mentioned above, there is no absolute truth. One could be right today and will be wrong tomorrow, vice versa. By questioning, we’re able to explore
In 1993 Volkswagen had record low sales but by the end of 1997 the VW brand had sold 137,885 cars. That was an increase of 178% from it’s 1993 slump. It is safe to say that the the ’94 relaunch of VW on the American Market was a success. The “Drivers Wanted” campaign, developed by Arnold Communications, I believe was successful as a result of excellent market research and positioning.
