Essay on Generation Gap
How many times have you felt that your parents don't understand you, that they have no respect for you as an individual? How often do you shake your head in frustration and blame it on the 'generation gap'? Parents! They are like aliens from another planet altogether! You and they are in different camps; strangers forced to live under the same roof Right? Wrong! There is a way of bridging what appears to be a yawning chasm. If you genuinely want to improve your relationship with your parents (and give them a big shock in the bargain!) try listening to them, treating them just like you would listen to a valued friend. Instead of always whining, 'You don't understand me", stop and think. Do we ever try and understand

Generation gap means difference in attitude, or lack of understanding between younger and older generation. This generation gap has always been there but these days it has reached to an explosive stage. The values and patterns of life have changed to a great extent. Today, everybody likes to live and behave in his own way. This attitude has widened the generation gap, which can never be filled. It is now destroying family life completely. The elders look after the children and make all sorts of sacrifices to bring them up. Naturally, they feel they have a right over them. They want their children to follow their instructions as they have certain expectations from them. But the children, when they grow up, want a complete freedom in their thoughts and actions and unfortunately their thoughts and actions are just opposite to those expected by the elders. They revolt when any kind of restrictions are imposed on them. Consequently, the family breaks up and everything gets ruined.
In India, we are yet in the initial stages, but the gap has appeared and it is going to grow bigger day by day. So it is not only the responsibility of the younger but also of the elders to fill this gap with their love, affection and trust. The

The new generation has their own values which are different from their elders and they want to make their own decisions. In the short story “A Secret Lost in the Water” by Roch Carrier, the theme of generation gap is very prominent throughout the story. A generational gap is a
“All gave some, some gave all” is a famous quote from Howard William Osterkamp. America’s gift to my generation is freedom of speech, respecting, appreciation of veterans. arms. All these gifts are the ones that make our future what it is today, America.
In the article “The Greatest Generation: The Great Depression and the American South,” Jeffrey DeRoven analyzes the economic struggles of the American South during the Great Depression in order to figure out why some people refer to people from that time period as the “greatest generation.” Below, this paper overviews DeRoven’s thesis, purpose, stance, audience, usage of literary techniques as well as logos, pathos and ethos, logical fallacies, and ultimately concludes with an opinion suggesting that DeRoven’s analysis is mostly sound and useful, but limited in proving his thesis.
The workplace of today involves interactions among people from four different generations often causing much conflict for leaders and organizations. Each generation represented has its own set of different values and beliefs. These differences can easily lead to conflicting barriers within the workplace. This can pose a significant problem for those in leadership. In order to combat this issue, leaders and organizations can effectively deal with these issues by offering different programs such as executive mentoring, town hall meetings, and leadership seminars for those in leadership.
In the short story “A Secret Lost in the Water” by Roch Carrier, the theme of generation gap is very prominent throughout the story. A generational gap is a difference of point of views between two generations relating values and beliefs. The narrator reflects that the new generation is not agree to follow their incesters’s tredition, culture, and also, they dislike to adopt their elders skills. The new generation do not understand the values and morals of their forefathers. When they are young, they think that the skills that their forefathers have are useless and old fashioned, but after a certain age of maturity, they realizes the importance of the skills which they have lost. As it is mentioned in the story, the farmer and the father both want to transfer their skill and knowledge to their children, but they fail because of the generation gap.
Economically, there are social classes in the United States, that of high earners (the rich), and that of low earners (the poor). Some scholars do argue that the generation gap promotes inequality and creates unjust society. From one of the article readings we had in class, one article talked a bout opportunities in your State and they also mentioned about the connection and relationship that to me I though is the cause of generation gap not only in America but in other countries as well. Majority of the people who get good jobs in companies, they have connections from relatives and good friends or people around them. That why, people who have access to good education and they have connections with some relatives working with good companies, their chances of acquiring a job in such companies are quiet high as compared to those with relatively not good education and with no connections. So the rich will continue getting rich and the poor will stay poor hence the generation gap. But again American’s does not look at generation gap as
So, next time there is a conflict with your parents, try to use the accommodating, collaborating, competing, compromising or even avoiding tactic to resolve the problem so both parties feel satisfied.
Picture this: you are twenty two years old. You just graduated from college and you are about to start your first real job. You need money desperately to pay off your mountainous pile of student debt but more importantly, your phone just broke this morning when you were ordering your daily low-fat, non-dairy mocha macchiato and you need to buy the new iPhone. You haven’t been able to check Twitter in over three hours and the anxiety of not knowing what new offensive tweet from your newest president, Donald Trump, says is eating you alive. You call your parents for help because maybe, just maybe, they will help you out with money this one last time-- and of course they do… This is the typical life of over seventy-five million
SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE “UNDERSTANDING AND MANAGING GENERATIONAL DIFFERENCES IN THE WORK PLACE” ( Cited from Kapoor and Solomon 2011)
The upcoming generation, millennials, are a new type of generation. They have proven to be the most educated generation, despite the hard times in the economy. Yet they still face criticism from their elders on their work ethic. Although they seem to all be lazy and not interested in working, not all millennials are like that. They just have different values in life, and balance work life with free time. Millennials have faced a lot of criticism on their work ethic, which has many questioning do millennials have a strong work ethic. They are said to be lazy narcissistic tech addicts, who don’t take any job seriously and slack off. What most don’t know is that the economy hasn’t been in the greatest of shape, this makes work ethic hard to
Across the nation, people are talking about the Millennial generation and how different they are compared to others, but are they really that different? Millennials are lazy, entitled, and selfish, or as you may have heard may be essential to the modern workplace, either way, they are being talked about whether it is good or bad. To put it in other words, past generations are concerned for what the future will look like with this technology-dependent generation, but is that a bad thing if the technology is only going to advance from here on out? The older generation is being too harsh or are they just genuinely concerned about the future? Joel Stein (2013) has written an article about the Millennials, it is titled Millennials: The Me Me Me Generation he argues for them being a selfish generation but by saying that it is not a bad thing. The second article is by Liz Zarka (2017) Generation Me: The Millennial Generation’s obsession with being unique, she argues that they are the generation that needs to be concerned for. After reading both of these articles I agree with some of the points that both of these authors make, however, there are also some sections that I disagree with. My perception of the situation is that millennials may have all these negative characteristics but use them to an advantage that no other generation can has; along with the advancement of technology and the use of social media may have increased the narcissistic trait in them, but they use these traits to get what they want, however, being narcissistic isn’t always good there can certainly be some disadvantages.
Millennials, a group of people who were born in the year 1984 and after. There are millions of them and they are our future. According to Simon Sinek, millennials “are accused of being entitled and narcissistic, self interested, unfocused and lazy.” Even though Millennials lack in some aspects, he believes that parenting, technology, impatience and environment is to blame. As a millennial, I totally agree with Sinek’s point because I am affected by all the variables that he listed ever since birth. Millennials did not do anything wrong but, the way they were raised affected their attitudes.
Every generation grows up with different obstacles which cannot be compared to other generations because every person has a different background no matter who they identify as. Each generation is separated by the events that happened during their lifetime, that is the whole reason we separate generations in the first place to distinguish them. In the August 2014 Huffington Post Article, “generations Z Stereotyped as the Apathetic generation”, a journalist for the Huffington Post, Julianne Micoleta summarizes the thoughts of high schoolers and their teachers on
In my family, the three generations are all at a different stage in life. Generation one at the moment in stage eight of the Family Life course.
