Throughout my high school career, I had the goal to graduate and then attend college. For a large part of my four years in high school, I was unsure as to what type of undergraduate program I wanted to be in. Nevertheless, I continued to work hard in all my classes. My motivation to do well in school was not only fueled by my goal of achieving a respectable GPA, but also my thirst to gain a vast amount of knowledge. I took a wide variety of classes within my high school career, only narrowing my classes to gear towards my chosen college major during my senior year. I took what I learned in high school to springboard me into college.
Currently I attend the University of North Dakota and am a part of the College of Engineering and Mines, working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. The solid foundation given by my classes in high school, has helped me greatly in college. Working hard in high school, which I also continue to do now at UND, paid off. I have shown that I am a worthy applicant for the scholarship academically,

For four years I did Model United Nations, representing a new country each year, as well as played Golf, where I was able to be on both the JV and Varsity team. While in high school I was heavily involved in music. As a part of the high school marching band, I was chosen to be the Low Brass section leader during my Junior year and again in my Senior year. Also in high school, I was a member of the pep band for four years and later I was a part of the jazz band too as an upperclassman. I still am a part of music at the University of North Dakota. At UND I am a member of the marching band, which performs at home football games, a member of the volleyball and hockey pep band, and recently I joined the pep band that performs at women’s and men’s basketball
After four years of high school, there is only one goal I have in mind. That goal is to attend college. This is the next big step in my life. All the late nights I stayed up to complete school assignment was for this moment. All my hard work was has lead me to this point in life. College will open a whole new to me. A world where I can meet new people while working to improve my future. Why do I want to attend college though? Well I have three specific reasons for this decision.
There might be a time where people ask you, “why are you in college” or “why to decide to go to college.” People might reply by saying that they want a degree, that they want a higher paying job, or they need that for a future career that they are pursuing. Those responses are the most typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a person can get a better job with better pay rather than working in the manual labor fields with minimum pay. A college degree is the fundamental stepping stone to the future, it lays the foundation of where to start. College is everything to me; I’m in college so I’m able to unlock more potential in myself, to be able to make my mother proud with everything that she has done and hopefully becoming the first.
I decided to go to college because I believe that education is an important part of life and that being educated has many advantages. Like many, one of the biggest reasons for deciding to attend college is to create a better future for myself. Being a first-generation college student my parents have implanted on me the importance of college education, as it is something they wish they would have done themselves. As the first of four children to go to college, I feel that it is my responsibility to be a good example to my younger siblings, and show them that it is important to have goals in life and to better yourself as a person through education. I understand that an university education may not be for everyone, but it felt like the right choice for me. What I hope to get out of college is a life-changing experience, not only to get a better education, but to find something I am truly passionate about. I think it is important when choosing a career or a major to find something your heart truly wants and not just a career that will make you able to afford expensive things. I also hope that somewhere along the path to graduation and adulthood, I find myself as a person and develop ideas, opinions, and to be able to approach the world with an
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to
After getting many certifications in a couple of different areas I ended up at a dead end. Employers seem to care more about a degree than certifications, even know you know a lot of the same material from a degree.
My biggest fear is letting down my family and also myself. Having to pick up a job to help my family is definitely a possibility and the biggest challenge that could prevent me from getting a degree. I’ve always wanted to go to college as a kid and this is a challenge that I will have to tackle on my own.
When deciding on a college option, most people choose their colleges based on the size, the location, the majors available and financial aid. I, like those people payed attention to those options, but I, unlike many others, looked for a way to keep whom I was hidden; to continue restraining my curls from breathing. Since an early age, being Dominican, I was taught that to look “presentable” and to feel “beautiful” my curls had to be kept straight, manageable, to iron and suffocate this wild tangle of hair that grasps for air. In this way, when I was faced with the challenge of deciding between an excellent college like Bates and not so good ones, the ability to be able to keep myself, and most importantly my hair “beautiful” was highly considered. I almost decided to go to a college close to home simply because I had easier access to Dominican hair salons, you sure can’t find those in Lewiston, Maine! When May 1st of last year had come I had made my decision: I would try out Bates for a year and see how I’d do, if I didn’t feel comfortable I would
After high school, I will attend a four-year university to get my BFA musical theatre. Although, I am also considering a BFA in Acting. My list of colleges includes; PACE University, Northwestern University, Baldwin Wallace University, Depaul University, Carnegie Mellon University, NYU, Julliard, University of the Arts, Syracuse, AMDA, and more. Recieving a college education in theatre is very important to me because college will allow me to make connections and get some of the best training in the nation. While I’m in college I want the freedom to produce student shows on campus where I am given the opportunity to write, act, sing, dance, and direct.
Four years ago, I started high school and felt extremely lost. If someone asked me my first day of freshman year if I knew where I wanted to go to college or what I wanted to do there, I would have laughed and told them that I didn't even know what I wanted for dinner that night. At that time, all of those questions seemed so far away. Now, as I sit here writing this, I can't seem to go a day without thinking of those questions. Luckily, I have found some answers within the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Why did you choose to come to Penta? We all chose Penta for various reasons, whether it was to get away from our homeschool or start a career. Some of us wanted to go to Penta to make it easier to go to college and get a decent paying job. I am Tyler Mack a student in Penta’s Information Technologies Academy program. In the essay, I will talk about why I chose to come to Penta, my goals, and my plans for the future.
I’m very excited to finish high school but I am a bit scared at the same time. Since I first started school, I wanted to graduate as soon as I could. I always thought that I would be graduating in my hometown but then I moved to Madera at the beginning of sophomore year. I moved to Madera because my mother wanted me to have a better future.
I thought applying to colleges was the hardest part of the process, but I was flat-out wrong. Choosing which college to attend was by far the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I empathize with prospective students deciding if UVa should be their new home, because I was in the same shoes not too long ago. However, I want to be an intern to show prospective students, through guided tours and other outlets, how much UVa could offer them. When choosing a school, many students go on tours to picture themselves at the institution, and obtain as much information as possible. Therefore, I believe my experience thus far has made me aware of several opportunities that can encourage prospective students to thoughtfully consider UVa. I know motivated students want to attend an institution that will guide them and help them flourish toward their
Crawling out of bed at 5:30 in the morning is never pleasant. I force myself to go downstairs to the shower, but on my way I see my dad standing in the garage doorway waiting. He sticks his leg out and I bend down to tie his work boot and then I am off to my shower as he leaves for work. I never give it a second thought anymore, as it has become routine. Although, the first time he asked me to tie his shoe stunned me.
Like many immigrants, my parents moved to Canada, from China, in order to give me a better life, and lessen the burden on my future by providing me with better opportunities. As the oldest child in my family, I will be the first to attend university. I received an early admission to McGill University for their Bachelor of Science program; I will be majoring in either biochemistry, physiology, or psychology. My aspirations at McGill University stems from its top medical-doctorate programs, its intensive focus on research, and the overall liberal and accepting belief aura of the school. Although, my parents are able to somewhat support me through my bachelor’s degree, however, they are also sponsoring an international student, who is my cousin on my dad’s side. Because my extended
For many, after graduating high school the next big step is college. I never asked myself why or if I even wanted to. Yet, since I was not yet ready to join the work force, and didn’t want to disappoint my parents, I simply followed the path that I was supposed to take. For a while I had no direction, but through the loss of my high school English teacher and my dream of making my family proud, I discovered that college was the place I wanted and needed to be.
