I came to the United States when I was five years old. That very exact day I arrived, was my first day of kindergarten. I spoke almost zero English, the only phrase I knew was "Hi, how're you today?", my new father taught me it. I was born in Mexico City, Mexico, I lived there with my single mom and family. I don't remember much about life back in Mexico, but I knew it was hard. However, I remember not wanting to leave my family, I had no siblings and would miss being with my cousins everyday. But my mother said something to me that to this day, I still acknowledge, "Darling, we are going to the land of education, diversity, and freedom." That day she spoke those words to be, I thought to myself, wow I am sure lucky.

What does it mean to have an education, it means to have the ability to do something great with your life. As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Ever since I was a young girl, I always desired the ability to help others: to make a difference in people's lives. The United States of America, has amendments that allow us to be who we desire to be. We have the freedom to choose what religion we believe in without being persecuted, we have the ability to have education: to make something of ourselves, we have the ability to be equal and successful. This is what I am most proud of when it comes to being an American. Many human beings die each day due to crazed governments wanting to control every aspect of everyone's life, it's a very sad thing. As Americans we must not take our rights and freedoms as an advantage, but as a blessing. "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Abraham
