There were multiple political problems that contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. There were a series of corrupt Emperors whose inexperience because of inherited rule led to bad decisions. As a result of clouded judgement because of greed and power, some Emperors were assassinated by their own Praetorian Guards on some occasions. The Praetorian Guards serve as a secret service for the rulers of Rome. The Guards would do this for money or power. Since there was no system of someone gaining power after the death of an Emperor, Legions fought amongst themselves to put their general on the throne. The migration of the farmers, who were plagued with famine, made Rome the first city to have 1,000,000 people in it. This made it easier for diseases to spread. At that time lead wasn’t known to poison water, but it was good for reinforcement in metal, so all the water systems had lead in them. In addition to the pipes, aqueducts and kitchen utensils had lead too. Since there was not enough food, and the water was contaminated that led to Malaria which killed most of the population. During the virus, the leader of the Hunnic Empire held (Attila the Hun) off his attack plans on Italy because of Malaria, smart guy! The last part of the fall of the Western Roman Empire was the invasions. When conquering land the Romans thought that they should use natural borders, like the Rhine and Danube rivers, to defend. When using these borders they did not think that enemies would cross the frozen rivers over to their side and attack. They also tried walls, but they did not have enough men to defend them. Eventually the Rome was burnt down by outside invaders (Chief Alaric). That was the attack the destroyed the Western Roman
