Should Blue Valley Get School Uniforms?
Blue Valley should not get school uniforms for three reasons. School uniforms could cause religious conflicts. Uniforms are just a band-aid on school violence, meaning that uniforms can only prevent school violence for so long until it comes back. Finally school uniforms could be a financial burden for some families.
The first reason that Blue Valley should not get school uniforms is because they could cause religious conflicts. For example, there was recently a case in Europe where a student was fighting the school for the right to wear a traditional Muslim dress, called a jilbab (Smith-Spark, 1). Another example is that in France, a law passed saying that no student was allowed to wear any traditional Muslim headscarves (Smith-Spark, 1). Some Jewish people wear small round hats called a, Kippah. If the rule is that you are not allowed to wear hats, this could

School uniforms could possibly be a huge financial burden for poor families (Wilde, 1). They are an unfair additional cost for families who already pay taxes for free public school (Wilde, 1). You must have several uniforms in order to make it through the school week. Finally, if poor families are paying taxes for public education and can’t even afford one uniform, they will not be able to afford three or four uniforms just to get through the week.
Uniforms have helped to improve attendance, graduation, and suspension rates. I still think that the bad outweighs the good for the three reasons above.
Overall I think that Blue Valley should not get school uniforms for three reasons. It could cause religious tensions. It doesn’t completely eradicate school violence, just covers it up for a while, Finally uniforms could be a financial burden for some families. That is why I think that Blue Valley should not get school
Uniforms would not be a great idea at Rancho Mirage High School because of the fact that RMHS can barely control their I.D. policy, so do you really think they can make a new uniform policy ? Coachella Valley, which is where RMHS is located reaches temperatures up to 120 degrees which is not uniform friendly, with temperatures that high is can be a safety hazard for students. If the policy is approved parents will be forced to buy uniforms which in many cases they can't afford and will now have to struggle more than they already are just to send their kid to school.
First of all, mandatory school uniforms deny students rights, stated in the U.S constitution. In the first Amendment, it states, “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech. Recently, a student at Riverside Middle School, wore a pink shirt with a message on it that stated, “ #TeamTanya” He was spreading awareness for his mother, who had breast cancer. With school uniforms, this student would not be able to spread awareness for his mother. Not only it would be against what the U.S.A. stands for, it would be uncivilized and send a bad message to other countries around the world.
Are school uniforms good or bad? This is an issue that has been going on for years. There are many different reasons for school uniforms. Some say having a school uniform helps to prevent violence and others say it prevents originality. Some also say it’ll help lower or rise the cost for parents. A common argument today is whether or not uniforms should be enforced in the public school system.
Secondly the disagreement most of the parents have about the school uniforms policy. Is just the beginning of the list of cons for this policy and yes, the cost for these such uniforms year by year go up like anything else! But I would imagine since they are being used for school “governmental” shouldn’t they be provided by the schools. At least a few to start of the year, since school uniforms are not tax-deductible per IRS. It does tend to add up if you have more than one child. So, it does have it pros and cons, but at the end are they worth it? Here is are a couple of statements from parents on their opinion on this issue. Both of the following statements talk about the same issue but with different outcomes. “School uniforms create a level playing field among students, reducing peer pressure and bullying”, “When all students are dressed alike, competition between students over clothing choices and the teasing of those who are dressed in less expensive or less fashionable outfits can
School uniforms help schools, academic reputation and help families. Cost is one of the major factors in this process. Behavior is proven to be affected positively with uniforms. One recommendation, I would make is letting schools try uniforms. See if it really helps improve students in the school district and if it doesn't implement it into the school rules. Nothing bad can come from trying to see if something helps school, perform
My first reason for being against school uniform is individuality. When I say individuality I mean it as expressing yourself, wearing what you want to wear, not what you have to wear. Also, individuality can mean expression of course, freedom, and detrimental effects on students
Imagine you walk into school and everyone is wearing the same jeans, same striped scarf and the same hairstyle. Dont you want to stand out? Be yourself?Wentzville School District should not have uniforms but what’s happening now is that we are voting on uniforms and a dress code is getting stricker. We can’t show our shoulders, no tanks etc. People that are involved, the school administrators, teachers, students, parents. I think we shouldn’t have school uniforms because it doesn’t give us to be unique and our own style,it cost money some families can’t afford these things, you can still get bullied.
Uniforms only fuel commercial interests; they aren’t solving the problem that they were implanted for. A lot of companies use the uniform system as a source of profit. There is a limitless profit on uniforms you can make the price for the uniform anything you want. That is why more corporations are beginning to require uniforms. It’s fair to say that some schools aren’t suggestions uniforms for the students but for the profit. Why would you support an idea that you think will benefit your child but really is for the money. While the
In summary, schools should not have uniforms. They do not allow students to express themselves. Also, they teach conformity over individuality. In addition to being useless in schools, they do not improve attendance, academic preparedness, or test results. Really, they do not improve anything. If you were a principal, would you enforce a uniform
School uniforms also serve little to no purpose in benefiting the education of children around America. A uniform does not help a student learn things that they need to know. A uniform does not help a student study, take notes, or make flash cards. They bring no educational value to the table of learning. According to many educators and experts, “Uniforms do not improve academics, behavioral and social outcomes, or reduce discrimination or crime” (Farrell). So if a uniform cannot help a student increase their knowledge or grow as a person, why make students wear them?
The main reason for implanting a school uniform policy would be that it increases the safety for the children at school. Gang violence in schools is at an all time high. In 1989, a high school student from Baltimore was shot and wounded in a fight over a pair of sunglasses that cost $95.00. Since this incident educators started restricting what students could wear. (Brunsma, 2006) By doing this, the violence in the school has decreased. According to Holly Charlonne with Life Script, she states that gangs have a need to wear a certain color to distinguish them from other neighborhood gangs. If our children are required to wear a uniform, this will lessen the chance of any possibility of violence out break at school associated with gangs. (Charlonne, 2007) Since everyone will have on the same colors, the uniforms may be viewed as a way to bring the children closer together by having the same effect as would sport uniforms. The decrease
Some critics say that school uniforms increase the amount of clothing that parents have to buy for their children, meaning that they would have to spend more money. Students wouldn’t wear their uniforms outside of school, so parents would have to buy casual clothing for their child to wear outside of school.
Yes, students at Rancho Mirage High School should wear uniforms. Some students say it’s a good thing to wear uniforms because it’s more affordable for their parents and that just saves more money so whenever they ask for anything they can have it. As well because it shows that they have educated and they don’t have to go to a private school to prove others that they are educated and smart. So I decided to go around RMHS and ask many students how they felt about the school wanted them to wear uniforms. The first person we interviewed , Zieanna , said “Wearing school uniforms is a good idea, it’ll get rid of bullying and discrimination of other kids for not having expensive clothes,” so we asked her why would she say that and she responded with
Uniforms were used back in the 1950s, but should they make a come back into schools now? Some state that uniforms will cause less gossip and more learning. The truth is that uniforms cause the students’ guardians to spend more money, does not solve the dress code policy, and problems such as bad behavior and crime rates.
pros Uniform helps to create a strong sense school ethos and a sense of belonging
