In life, there is always a constant struggle to support multiple activities at once. All the activities are expected to be first on your list of things to do. Finding a balance is usually not easy, but it is worth it. My own experiences of balancing family, community, social, academics, and sports have taught me valuable lessons and helped me to reach my goals. The nights when I had to stay up late, or skip hanging out with my friends were all worth it to receive the opportunity to attend my dream college, Carnegie Mellon University. Being engaged in community support activities often brings the purest smiles. I am apart of Key Club and National Honor Society. Both clubs encourage students to volunteer in the community. Some of my experiences …show more content…
For as long as I can remember learning has always intrigued me. I desired to be the best at learning to read in first grade, the best at learning multiplication facts in fourth grade, and the best at learning to titrate acids and bases in eleventh grade. Striving to learn the most has simply become a habit of mine. Throughout high school, my schedule was always filled with honors and AP classes allowing me to learn more and more everyday. After school and practice my nights were spent doing hours of homework to keep up my academic record. The amount of work I put in has paid off as evident by my transcript. I am ranked 6th out of a class of 296 with an over 4.0 gpa. Last year, I received a five on the AP Calculus AB exam and fours on AP Language and Composition and AP Chemistry exams making me an AP Scholar. Thankfully people were not exaggerating when they said hard work reaps rewards. My day in and day out diligence in school that stemmed from a love of learning led to my acceptance into Carnegie Mellon. The interactive intellectual environment draws me toward the prestigious school. I hope to one day graduate from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering and to then begin a successful and purposeful career ignited by my
My community, Lisle, is a small, predominantly Caucasian, middle-class town. I can walk down the hallway and recite the first name, last name, and a fun fact of about seventy percent of my peers. Because of its size, I have has the opportunity to get to know majority of my neighbors and become quite familiar with my environment. While the kindness is in abundance, many of the people I meet in town have a confined perception of society. Entering high school, it did not take long for me to notice how prominent labels and groups were and how I did not fit comfortably into any single category. I liked being on the math team, playing soccer, and spending time with friends. But the academics, athletes, and social crowds were distinct, and people seemed to only interact with those of the same race. Nonetheless, at Lisle High School, we have a common saying, “One Pride” which symbolizes both our school mascot, the lion, as well as the unity of the community. I chose to focus on unity, rather than disparities. Following this mentality has
I should be in NJHS because I believe I have all the qualities it takes to be a productive member within NJHS. The five pillars of National Junior Honor Society are: Scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. During this school year, along with academic excellence, I was also a leader. When I think of a leader, I think of a person who empowers others by showing supreme honesty, integrity, innovation, communication, confidence, and empathy. I showed this by taking charge of things that seemed derailed.
My academic accomplishments are a direct result of my dedication to school. I make sure to work hard and put in 100% effort into each assignment I get. I strive to find the perfect balance between challenging myself and retaining a maintainable level of course work. I am proud to say of my completed credits I have earned all A’s. Not only do I take pride in my grades, but I genuinely enjoy expanding my knowledge. Outside of class, I take it upon myself to learn new things in my spare time. I would love to broaden my devotion to school by helping other students achieve the same.
Over the past year, I have served my school and community in many different ways. Whether it be through volunteering or participating in organizations that work to make changes in the lives of others. I try to stay involved in my environment. Currently, I am a student at Rockford Lutheran High School. With the multitude of clubs, my school offers, I am able to interact with other club members to promote student participation. Every year we participate in drives and fundraisers. In Key Club, each year we put together solider boxes. We collect a variety of small items and send hand packaged boxes to our fighting soldiers, as a gift for christmas. Other drives that I partake in are the canned food drives for the local food pantries, and the clothing drives to give winter clothing to those less fortunate. This helps to provide this vulnerable population with warmth during the cold winter months.
As someone who loves new people and new experiences, I am confident I would be an energetic and positive contribution to my class and community. Having gone through two knee surgeries within two years I found that positivity is an invaluable part of recovering as well as maintaining the same drive and passion as before the two injuries. The ability to be positive is a precursor to building resiliency, and is, therefore, one of the most essential traits a successful person can have. In addition to staying positive and upbeat, I also find it imperative to give back to the community in which I live, wherever that community may be. Participating in the National Honor Society instilled in me the significance of serving one's community. Helping the
I want to provide a positive attitude that can help improve the National Honor Society. It might seem like something simple and worthless to some, but to me having a positive attitude in the face of adversity makes me a stronger person. Unlike others whom can provide incredible ideas or stupendous promises, the only thing that I truly offer to NHS is that I would work hard no matter what in order to help the Cardinal Hayes community grow. I'll become a team player that can understand what it takes to properly accomplish goals that the team aims for, when others are looking at the horrible things at the present moment I wanna be the person that anyone can rely on. My personal desire is to help the organization overcome obstacles and to be able
On behalf of Beaufort Middle School, myself, Dr. Tomon and The Faculty Council we congratulate you and your student on being selected for membership to the Beaufort Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. The NJHS is a program that celebrates the success of many of our hardest working students, based upon academic achievement as well as the demonstration of outstanding character, service, leadership, and citizenship. These criteria for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities are built. Members of NJHS take pride in their accomplishments and work diligently toward the goal of attaining a superior education and contributing to their school and community. They do their best to provide positive role models for their peers.
National Honor Society has been one of my top goals since my freshman year. When I found out that I could submit more information I was so ecstatic. I have wanted to be in National Honor Society for a long time because it will help me develop qualities and experiences that will last me a lifetime. A major quality and pillar of National Honor Society is leadership. Leadership to me equals sacrifices. People who sacrifice their time even when they don’t really have the time to sacrifice are good leaders in my opinion. I want to strive to be a good leader and apply leadership into National Honor Society.
I feel I should be a part of the National Honor Society because I show a willingness to help others. I try to the best of my ability to be a leader, and I am creative as well as keep a positive attitude so others may as well. I wish to be a part of the National Honor Society so I can take these skills and help others who need my help in order for them to follow on the path to become great members of society.
I am a student in my second semester at Eastfield college. I plan to get my associate’s degree of arts and then transfer to the University of Texas at Dallas’ Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communications program. As such, I would like to take all the experience I gain from Eastfield and use it wherever I may go in the future. I would like to receive the scholarship to help me join Phi Theta Kappa and maintain my commitment with the organization.
National Junior Honor Society will be a great opportunity for me. If I am accepted into NJHS I plan on keeping up my 4.0 average, balancing between school and outside of school activities, continuing to help my community/peers, and creating a specific idea to make a positive impact at the school. The next 3 paragraphs I will be stating why I will be a great member of NJHS, why it's good to help people, and something I could do to positively impact my school.
I believe I should be a member of the National Honor Society because I believe I would make a good addition. I am a hard worker and would not slack off on any work asked of me. I am responsible and am able to keep my grades up while doing other things. I am on the tennis team and while on the team the quality of the work that I turned in was no different than the quality of work I would have turned in if I was not on the tennis team. I believe the National Honors Society is something great to be a part of.
Every day I wake up and drive through the beautiful town that I live in and I realize how much my community has helped me grow. I joined National Honor Society because I wanted to give back to my community and I wanted to prove how thankful I truly am. When I started my junior year of high school, there was a shooting at a local community college and my neighbor, friend, and teammate, was tragically killed in the shooting. The day after the shooting I promptly decided to donate blood to help the survivors, and ever since then I have been a part of every American Red Cross Blood Drive that South Umpqua has hosted. The shooting affected me so much, and it still does, and I realized that is when I wanted to help those in need; I wanted to donate
On Oct. 21, students were selected to be in National Honor Society during a “tapping” ceremony at the high school. Almost all of the students and staff at GHV are in attendance of the ceremony and act as onlookers. During this ceremony, students who are either juniors or seniors meeting the NHS requirements and having submitted an application wait in anticipation as current members walk around the auditorium delivering paper slips of admission.
As a second year National Honor Society student, the last couple of years I have been more focused on ways I can help my community to help get all my service hours in for the end of my high school NHS career. I’ve always loved doing little things to help someone who needs it but I never thought about the things that I do everyday count just as much as the other things. Community service to me, is more than just holding the door open for someone, picking up trash, or helping someone with their groceries. I want to help people grow and be a better person while serving my community. I want to do more than volunteer, I want to impact the lives of people and I feel that is what I have done.
