A lot of people believe that the best alternative would be to have a hired security guard or law enforcement guarding the school at all times. This idea is better because it allows the teachers to be at peace by not having to worry about if they would be ending a life. "If I'm going to have a gun on the premises I'd rather have a resource officer who has been trained," Martin said. "If I'm going to defend myself in the community, I'm not firing around potentially 1,000 kids." By hiring security the school would be protected from any intruders. Security would be trained to shoot with precision at any gunman. The security could also help protect against violence within the school. If a fight breaks out, a security guard would be able to stop …show more content…
In the past year President Obama was pushed to enforce and create new laws on the ownership of weapons. In a poll taken on July 7th, 2016 people were asked whether they approve or disapprove of the way Obama was handling gun laws. 59% completely disapproved of it while 39% completely approved of the way he handled it. Many believe that Obama didn’t handle the situation very well because he did very little to control gun violence. In the same poll 64% of people thought that the gun laws should be more strict while only 11% thought that laws should be less strict and 23% believe that the gun laws should be left the way they are …show more content…
With Donald Trump as the new president of the United States many believe he will enforce better gun laws. There should be more screening before someone can be able to buy a gun. Every person should have a complete background check. This would include searching their criminal history, job status and even their driving record. If someone has a history of violence they should not be able to purchase a gun. If the government checked the person’s work history they could contact past and present jobs to ask the companies questions about the individual. This could prove to the company that is selling the gun that the person is not responsible enough to own a weapon
School shootings, gang violence, drive by shootings, murder, and thousands of acts of violence are committed every day. Members of our society criticize their own people for this violence while they continue to sit back and do nothing about it. These acts of violence have many contributing factors. Violence in our country today is escalating because we don't control the distribution of the guns sold. There are not enough restrictions on guns sold legally. The illegal purchase of guns through the black market is out of control. There is not enough education on the usage and storage of guns.
Gun violence in schools is becoming more common and out of control. The Freeman High School shooting was a total tragedy. Caleb Sharpe was a ongoing bully victim. I believe everything could have been prevented if he was assisted properly by the school. I feel like the school didn’t help Caleb at all. In the article it says that Sharpe’s classmates alerted the counselors, but it wasn’t clear what the school staff did in response. Classmates reported troubling signs from Caleb, saying they knew videos he posted online playing with guns. Evidence like that is clearly a cry for help. Freeman High School consist of 300 students compared to other schools who have 800+. The school have no excuses why they couldn't catch the warning signs earlier.
According to Dan Gross’s presentation, his dream for a better future is to cut down the number of gun deaths by a half in the USA by 2025. In 1997, Gross’s little brother was shot in the head at the observation deck at the empire state building and has to suffer brain damage for life. This tragedy is not only for his family but also to the many families that keep losing their loved ones each day. 90 Americans are killed everyday by guns and some of these killings go unnoticed. Gross says that there are over 300 million guns out in homes of Americans to keep their families safe. But everyday, 9 kids are shot unintentionally in homes and 2/3 of school shootings that occur are from guns taken from home. This is because a lot of technology that
Our schools have been deeply affected by mass shootings and weak gun violence laws. This country has had over 1000 mass shootings in the past two years and over 50 school shootings, killing thousands of innocent little children. Our government needs to put up strict gun laws that allow administrators in all schools to use necessary force against a school shooter or anyone who tries to harm students of such nature.
The right as an American to own a firearm has always been apart of our history. However, recent events have put into the question the second amendment and whether or not it still holds any real purpose in our society. Gun violence has constantly occurred throughout our history and has always been a problem to end. It wasn’t until recent that activists became so passionate about enforcing stricter gun laws or abolishing the second amendment all together. What would cause such a drastic upheaval? The answer to that is, constant reoccurrence of mass shootings all over the country, including ones involving young children. Once children started becoming casualties of these horrific events, society really felt obligated to try and do something
Over the last years gun control has become a very widely debated topic. The city, county and state lawmakers seem to be having different stands about the public having easy access to guns. Adam Small states, “After centuries of relative obscurity, the Second Amendment has become the center of an intense academic and legal battle during the last twenty years” (1213). The supporters of gun control and its opponents both claim to have the best interest of this country’s citizens .However, there are private citizens who believe that there should be laws to limit the number of people who own a gun. Even though the United States has enacted laws for regulating firearms, the recent shootings at Aurora movie theatre and Sandy
Gun violence in the United States is a current issue and does not go unnoticed. According to the Gun Violence Archive currently in 2017, the “total number of incidents is 42,964 (2017)“ involving gun related injuries. Within the THiNK textbook there were two articles within the reading to compare peoples view on guns and how they should be controlled. One of the articles was called “Stop Worrying About Guns in the Classroom. They’re Already Here,” by Erik Gilbert. Who makes a claim that whether or not the students and faculty is aware, people are already bringing guns on to campuses. With Americas history of active shooters students have a decreased sense of security, therefore want to increase their protection, whether or not it
Gun violence is a problem in every nation. Where I came from gun violence is a major problem. I came from Afghanistan where events such as; people shooting each other, people shooting at a crowd and killing tens and hundreds of people happens quite usually. But one incident that stuck with me to this day is the suicide of a young boy near my middle school. When I was around 9 or 10 years old I remember the day one of my friend's relative's committed suicide using his father’s gun. It was the end of a school day, the street and the area in front of his house were packed with people and cars. The police car and the ambulance, both were parked in front of his house. The sound of people shouting, his mom and his sisters screaming, and the
In 2015, 13,367 people lost their lives due to gun violence according to Gun Violence Archive. The Archive also states that out of that number, 693 were children from ages 0-11. We can all agree that there is indeed a problem that we have to address. The solution to that problem, however, has been debated by many. I believe the solution to this problem exists in three parts: Mandatory training and licensing along with more heavily secure gun storage, stricter regulations on the purchasing of a firearm—disabilities and criminal records should be more deeply looked into before transaction—and finally, equipping teachers at highs schools with the right kind of weaponry to prevent mass shootings.
Gun is violence is a very controversial political topic that has been discussed repeatedly over the last couple years. While there are many people that support loosening gun laws there are also just as many people who are 100% against the idea. David Burnett and Darby Dickerson happen to be 2 individuals who both have conflicting views on gun laws and what should and should not be allowed in the United States. In this particular case, the two differ specifically on how gun laws should be treated on college campuses. On one side, there is David Burnett, dean of Texas Tech University School of Law, who completely supports the idea of concealed carry on college campuses. On the other side David Burnett, the director of public relations for Students, who is completely against the idea. Both authors do a very good job at not only standing firm in their position but also providing the evidence to back up their position.
In the African American community, 83 percent of homicides are due to gun violence. In black communities gun violence is commonly misunderstood as gang affiliation, which is false. Studies show over 50 percent of gun crimes committed were not related to a felony, but were due to some disagreement. The gun epidemic in predominantly black communities aren’t just disagreements, but race wars, police brutality, gang related, and even no reason at all.
Despite our whereabouts everyone main concern is gun violence; there is always an argument concerning guns. Should be mandated or not? Is it life or death situation or plain old homicide? With that question being asked by Americans nationwide, should students be allowed to carry guns or campus? Or should we fear that they all will use it for all the wrong reasons intended?
Everyday 93 Americans are killed by guns. Whether it is due to homicide or suicide, it does not matter. At the end of the day gun violence is increasing exponentially. In numerous states, gun laws have been placed in the hopes of reducing gun violence. But now many people believe that gun violence should be treated as a public health problem. I for one feel that gun violence should be put in the category of public health. Every year more than 30,000 people are victims to gun related incidents. It has become such an issue that gun violence is causing more deaths than some life threatening diseases.
Teenage gun violence is on the rise. Gun violence has become a major problem for America. We have more privately owned guns than any other country. This could be one of the reasons that guns are being used by teens, because of the access they have to guns. The availability of guns to our youth is making the world unsafe. Although lawmakers are working on gun control laws, I wonder is the problem too far gone.
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. We may think that guns do all the harm but in order for guns to fire a trigger has to be pulled, so in that case the people
