In the summer of 2017, I had the opportunity to explore the financial realm as a Youth Financial counselor intern with Opportunity Now. As a youth financial counselor, I cultivated my interpersonal skills while also assuming responsibility without direct supervision. My experience with Opportunity Now has made me confident that, as a student in the Aspire Fellows program, I will be able to balance the duties that I am assigned within my internship opportunity and my integrated courses. Additionally, my timeliness, ability to collaborate effectively with others, and willingness to embrace new challenges will help me strive for excellence within the program. In an accounting internship opportunity, I will serve as a role model to my colleagues, use critical thinking skills to navigate complex situations, and be resilient in the face of challenges. The Aspire Fellows program will help me become an individual with good standing in my field, and, most importantly, help me become a successful accountant who is able to provide businesses in Nashville with an exceptional service by overviewing their operations and helping them run

The Closing Bell Speaker Series “Iron Sharpens Iron”: Why Mentoring Matters So Much was presented by Forest Harper. Forest Harper is the current Chief Executive Officer and President of INROADS Inc. Harper grew up in a poor neighborhood in Fort Pierce, Florida. In high school, Harper was a star athlete in his high school’s Army ROTC program. He attended Morgan State University on a football scholarship. His plan was to become a professional football player. He suffered two knee injuries that ended his football career. He graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Social Work. After graduation, he joined the Army and served as a Lieutenant. He spent six years in the Army and rose up to the position of Captain. After the Army, Harper participated in the Executive Leadership Training program at Harvard University. Before becoming the president of INROADS, Harper worked at Pfizer for twenty-eight years. He started as a pharmaceutical sales representative and later became the Vice President of Capability Development in Worldwide Public Affairs and Policy. He was the only African American in his division. This fact inspired him to join INROADS and become a mentor to minority college student. His goal is to help get as many minority college students into the industry they choose. Harper’s own mentor is his uncle Walter Crenshaw, the oldest documented Tuskegee Airman.
Adults and peers have described me as dependable, fair, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, empathetic, respectful, and friendly and I do my best to live by these characteristics. One of my main mottos is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I am by no means a perfect person and I try to accept help and criticism whenever it is offered in an effort to keep improving upon my character. I am a reliable student, sister, daughter, and friend. I believe I would learn a lot from being a member of this program because being surrounded by peers with similar moral and academic character would allow me to do even more to make my community a better place. This would be a perfect opportunity to benefit from any experiences this program has to offer me and make a positive impact on my school and
I am interested in the LSDP Scholarship. I feel even though I have had leadership experiences in the past, this winter term program could take me that extra mile to becoming the best leader I can be. I served the last two years of my high school career as the FFA Reporter for my FFA chapter office. I also have some experience as a co-producer for my Thespian Society Chapter my junior year of high school. I was part of the National Honor Society and even though I didn’t hold a position it was expected of me to set a good example for other students by volunteering during and outside of school. Senior year I aided my biology teacher during one of her class periods. I helped her with class plans and grading to prepare her for her maternity leave. All these divergent positions allowed me to experience leadership in a different way and I feel that LSDP can help me pull them all together to become a better leader.
I don’t plan to make a career out of the Air Force but if I like it enough I might stay in. This scholarship would help me greatly to begin my life away from home.
After attending the info session for Year Up, and looking over the website for more details, I am very pleased with this program. It seems like a perfect fit for a college student like myself to help enhance my dreams of becoming an accountant. Year Up can definitely move me up to a higher level in life. I know for a fact I will be a perfect fit for Year Up because I am a determined and motivated individual. I work hard inside and outside classrooms to conquer anything that I desire, no matter what it takes. Also, when it comes to the Year Up program, I am willing to put forth that same effort.

I will be attending Mississippi State University and majoring in business; in hopes of becoming a personal financial advisor. While attending college, I plan to gain a vast number of tools to guide myself and others to a greater financial state. I also plan to become a certified educator because in our area the occupation is vital to the development of our youth. Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge
The aim of this essay is to discuss on how the reflection on mentorship will be undertaken, how and why the model of reflection will be used and the importance of confidentiality. I will reflect the mentorship by ensuring that the mentee during clinical practice is put at ease throughout the learning experience of four weeks (Quinn, and Hughes 2007, p. 29). Also, I will use the principle of Kolb’s learning cycle as my model of reflection because reflecting is an essential element of learning. As I am the mentor, I will follow this cycle in a clockwise direction with Jude, so she would have to reflect on the skills learnt by reviewing the whole situation (Kolb’s learning cycle 1984 in Rose and Best 2005, p.129). This would enable Jude to
My short term goal is to be certified to be able to work full time in my school; as working full time in public schools requires to be certified according to Connecticut state low. Working full time and being certified will enhance my professional abilities and work on my potential. The fellowship will help me achieve my goal; it will help me financially to cover the certification program cost. My short term goal will help me to achieve my first long term goal, which is advocate for the Arabic language and expand the Arabic to be taught in more schools. Being certified will give me the opportunities to attend conferences and meet new people, share experiences and influence educators and administrators to incorporate teaching the Arabic language
The reason I am interested in this program is because I want to have real experiences. I no longer want to look at life through a computer screen. I want to be the one researching and challenging myself in every possible way. I am a very open-minded and ambitious person. I am prepared to tackle any task that comes my way. I have little outdoor experience, but I want nothing more than to learn. Adventures are the best way of learning so this position was naturally appealing to me. This program will give me the opportunity to apply what I learned in class to the real world and allow me to escape the ordinary. I am a freshman in college with a massive desire for learning. I wish to leave my own trail and be the ripple in a wave that will produce
My goals are to attend college and to continue to support issues such as women empowerment, which I have been actively supporting the past 4 years. I desire to major in informatics because I would like to go into a field that not many women go into and I desire to minor (or perhaps double major if possible) in business because the female to male ratio of leaders in the business are depressingly low for females in America today, despite the fact that women are just as capable as men in the workplace. I believe that the KPMG Future Leaders Program’s goal for developing future generations of women leaders is personally, my perfect opportunity. The scholarship provided in this program would help me go to the best college of my choice to receive
