Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally.
One of the high points of the class was consistently making high A’s. We wrote a variety of different types of papers, and my grade was always respectable. Succeeding in this class made me feel adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I was able to do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better. The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the course of the year. This class would have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it never did.
Although I was not overly challenged in my last English class, I have several weaknesses as a writer. My biggest weakness is neglecting to ask important questions that could improve my writing. Receiving

One of the most problematic difficulties I faced and am still facing is self-revision. When writing a paper, it is extremely important to revise your essay multiple times before submitting the final version. Every revision helps to build a more polished essay. I feel that my paper fails to progress enough from the rough draft to the final. To fix this, I need to give myself longer breaks between revising. Becoming skilled at revising my own papers will allow me to develop into a more competent, successful
Throughout English 1010 thus far, I can certainly say that my writing skills have been tested and tried. Writing for fun and composing rhetorical essays for a college-level English class are vastly different styles and require contrasting attitudes, voices, and points of view for each. Before writing essays of the former diction, I must admit that I did not understand the rhetorical strategies and had no idea there even was a rhetorical triangle. The assignments included in this portfolio show the advancements I have made in my writing with an academic tone.
As a new immigrant, I took the accuplacer test and went straight to 111 English level. So, English 111 course became my first college English class. It seems like a great achievement for a French speaker. Nonetheless, this performance linked to significant challenges. Even though I am a fighter and an optimist, I was frightened about my academic achievement for this semester. The problems became bigger when I took my first practice test on sentence structure (fragments and run-ons) and got a D. I was frightened and felt that I will have to drop the class. However, I decided not to give up. I started working hard and had a V+ on the next test. This positive grade energized me until now. During this semester, I have much homework and practices which allow me to identify some strengths, weaknesses, and gave me lots of skills for my English 112 class and the future.
This page is one of my favorites as I love to read. Most of my high school career I was given the privilege of being able to choose my own books to read for school. As a result, I enjoyed many of the assignments given to me in regard to the novels I chose. This page highlights some of the projects I completed for my independent novels. The first two projects were completed during my Junior year in Honors English 11. The other two were done for AP English my Senior year.

Haven taken this class, I have learned where my writing is “slacking.” I have definitely learned what I should work on the improve my writing to help. I have taken so much from this class that I can use to greater my writing in future situations. Studying Law is definitely a major that will require further
Different theories and ways of practising exist for counsellors, with reflective practice becoming more popular amongst practitioners. Dallos, & Stedmon (2009) state that for professionals working directly with people, such as counsellors, reflective practice has quickly developed into a fundamental component of training, and the best practice for creating successful outcomes. This essay will focus on how reflective practice is critical for professional life, and how the use of reflection and theory can be used by counselling practitioners to inform their practice.
At the beginning of the year, the class was assigned to write a simple essay about the story in a photograph. For this assignment, I wrote an essay about a picture of myself and six friends during our freshman homecoming. I clearly remember writing that sample essay the night before it was due without much thought or care into the paper. As it turns out, the grade I received reflected my work, as I earned around a sixty percent. Thankfully, the professor of the class corrected everything wrong with my paper and verbally discussed with myself and the class on what our biggest weaknesses were during our writing. It was at this point that I learned that in order to succeed both as a student and an essay writer, I would have to focus harder and care more for my assignments.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to succeed in class to take a step back and self-evaluate themselves in their work. To be the best, a learner should be able to determine how he or she is progressing and in what steps that person can take to improve his or her writing skills. Every writer encounters setbacks in their work, when this happens the student should know which resources are available for their assistance. I have used these methods and have discovered that I have matured quite a bit in my writing, in just a matter of a few weeks.
The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don’t know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fine-tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style.
I can honestly say, my writing skills have never been good, and taking this class has challenge me to grow in my writing by teaching me different writing techniques. This class has helped me in so many ways, not only has it thought me how to format and essay, but it showed me how to write my ideas and explore my options. I know that what I learn from this class will help me in my future, when writing letters, emails, and even my resume. I also really like that it gave me a My writing lab, which really helped me work on my grammar. My suggestion for future students who take this class, read all the resource the teacher gives you, as well as take time to read the books. Find a place where is nice and quiet, where you can let all your ideas flow
Always getting A’s on my papers caused me to believe that my writing was good enough, therefore, I never pushed myself to become a better writer. It was not until my 11th grade year that I ran into with my first real issue with my writing. One issue that I ran into with my writing was that I constantly used passive voice in my papers. This was my first time ever hearing about the passive voice, and seeing how prominent it was in my writing, I was surprised that nobody brought this to my attention. Another problem that was brought to my attention was that my papers were lacking detail. I thought that all that I was supposed to do in a paper was point out the main ideas of the topics that I was writing about. I did not know that I was supposed to explain the main ideas deeper than just the surface level. When learning about having to write with detail, I learned that it was important to show the reader why my ideas were correct instead of just telling them my ideas. Through this I learned that my writing was not where it needed to be and that I need to work to improve my
As a writer, my skills have improved through taking this course. I have developed the ability to organize and plan the specifics of my novel by breaking each aspect into parts. I learned more about the importance of writing with the reader in mind, and how to do so. The most significant skill I developed through this class, though, is making realistic characters with quirks and unique personalities.
Your Creative Writing class has taught me so much about being creative, confident and of course a being a better writer. Every assignment that we did was beneficial to my creativity and confidence. For example, we learned about imagery, show not tell and I was able to fully incorporate that into my writing. When the guest speaker Bindu Sharma came in to talk to our class about her experience of becoming a published author, I was able to get a feel for what the process may be like if I ever pursue the publication path. I gathered so much knowledge from the projects we did and I became more open to other genre’s and writing categories. For example, when I first found out that I loved to write I thought that the only thing I enjoyed was the fiction genre, but then in this class I discovered the raw beauty of poetry and the inspiration of non-fiction writing as well.
When it comes to my involvement at Bowling Green State University, I have been a part of a variety of different organizations. I coached youth basketball from October of 2014 until April of 2015 at St. Aloysius, located in downtown Bowling Green. Not only did this demand the completion of specific certification courses, but it required a large time commitment. As a coach, I was a part of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). In addition to coaching, I have been a member of the Adolescent Young Adult Association (AYAA) since I arrived here in 2014. This organization is comprised of future teachers. The organization meets monthly to help prepare students for future tests and certifications. I was also a key member in founding the Men's Club Basketball team here at BGSU. I served on the executive board from February of 2015 until January of 2016. Additionally, I am currently pledging the National Honor Fraternity of Phi Sigma Pi. This organization requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA along with an in-depth interview process in order to receive admittance. Phi Sigma Pi recognizes academic excellence through philanthropy and
When it came to picking classes, for the most part I just looked to see what goal areas I needed to cover for my generals and found a class under the goal areas that sounded, somewhat interesting to me. After narrowing it down to a few classes under each goal area this class, for me in particular sounded not only the most interesting but, it sounded like a good class to take for my future occupation of wanting to become a Social Worker.
I believe I have achieved most of the course learning objectives as I pass this class with a c or higher. I undertook the writing process we learned in class and it has helped me become a better writer. Before I entered my freshman year of college I didn’t know how to write. But as I undertook the writing process I was taught in class I now know how to write. First when it came to writing my assignment papers for my class I grabbed a notebook and did prewriting . I brainstormed a list of ideas for my papers. I then had a plan on everything I was going to write about. I then sit down and write my first draft. I make sure my first paragraph is a strong
