My final thoughts towards English 1301 would probably be described in one word which would be awesome; from what I learned in class will help me out towards my path to the future I understand that I still have some errors as I write essays or journals; but I will like to believe that I will get better as I stay in English and I work more on my dents that I have. A big problem I know I have are run-on sentences. I don’t believe no one intends to do it on purpose it just happens; like me I try not to. I reread over my essays or journals all the time; but for me in my eyes I don’t see any errors, yet I will still go to someone or on the internet to check my work to get a second opinion on the work I accomplished. I personally go to
As a student of the English class 1301, I feel like I’ve made improvements on my writing skills. In my opinion, English 1301 is a tough class. Because I thought some of the topic was difficult to write. However, practice makes perfect is the case here. Writing as much as you can is the only way to make an improvement.
Throughout the semester of History 1301 I have learned many things that have really caught my attention and focus into history. However, one specific thing that has really blown my mind and has made me feel that history might not always have the correct information and has made me wonder if they are still dependable with the information they are stating is how Christopher Columbus was NOT the first to discover America, it is a myth. The Native Americans discovered North America about 14,000 years before Columbus was even born. On the second Monday in October each year, we celebrate Columbus Day (this year, it’s on October 11th). We teach our school kids a cute little song that goes: “In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” It’s an American
In English 1101 we wrote several pieces of writing. Each piece was unique and I learned new things with everyone. My favorite piece of writing was the research paper because I could choose the topic and it was a topic I think is very interesting. Even though it was probably the hardest one to write I thought it was my best piece and I loved my topic of Genetically Engineered Babies. My least favorite was the memoir because I struggled writing it and I had trouble picking a topic. It turned out being a really good memoir but I didn’t love writing it. My strongest piece is probably my common app essay because I put everything I was into that paper. My paper was called “I’m So Much More Than a Test Score”. It was really powerful and explained
As an English student I have numerous strengths but along with that comes a giant load of weaknesses. Generally speaking, my strengths include writing, vocabulary, and reading. My weaknesses primarily involve grammar and more specifically punctuation. I am always questioning if my sentences are run-ons, or if I am
The 1320’s may sound like a countless number of years ago, but that period of time was a critical part in the history of the Islamic World. The 1320’s were much more advanced than we thought it was. There was global trade that connected three continents together and triggered the trade in luxury goods and the exchange of ideas. Thus, knowledge was spread by Islamic scholars, building major universities in well-known towns. The people of the Islamic World were civilized, having achieved many noble deeds and maintaining peace with the world.
Looking into the first week of AHIST 1401, I recognize this may be the most difficult class I have studied at the university. The syllabus schedule appears to be filled with volumes of reading material, written assignments, peer reviews, and quizzes that our class will be challenged with. Although there will be much to do this term, I am enthusiastic about the journey and the value it offers me. AHIST 1401 has already challenged me to view the world differently due to the details around us. In all, my strength is in time management, dedication to the material, and willingness to accept the journey offered here. This being said, my shortcoming may be the volume of information ingested, processed, then disseminated. While reviewing the peer assessment
Copernicus, Galileo, and William Gilbert are all big names, but they were scientists or philosophers who lived during the Elizabethan Era. There were many more and the all observed the world around them and made studies based on those observations. Subjects varied on what they studied but it all came back to the view of how the world around them worked. They made many amazing discoveries that has impacted the world today. There were many views and discoveries of the world during the Elizabethan Era, though each had an impact on the modern world.
Reflective Essay of 1101 and 1102 English I originally took English 1101 at Atlanta Technical College and now I am completing my English 1102 at Clayton State University. Before taking English 1101 my writing skills was kind of remediate because I had been out of school for at least ten years. The first thing we learned in English 1101 was understanding the main principles of effective writing, how to engage your audience in your writing and essay development. My assignments covered a variety of writings such as descriptive essays, personal essay, analyzing quotes and narrative essays. We wrote in journals which allowed us to express our personal feelings about a specific topic.
For the short amount of time I have attended English 1101 through Sinclair I have learned that college courses are not like high school. English 1101 is even a sugar coated version of a real college class because I do not leave my high school campus. This class puts a lot more responsibility on the students compared to high school. I noticed that my usual procrastination did not make the cut. I have perceived that my grammar, vocabulary, and editing skills have
Throughout many of Shakespeare’s plays, one of the central themes with which he provides his readers is the topic of madness and insanity. In Karin S. Coddon’s, “Such Strange Desygns”: Madness, Subjectivity, and Treason in Hamlet and Elizabethan Culture, the author depicts the reasons behind the psychosis of Shakespeare’s characters and what led to their insanity. The author expresses insight for not only the themes of madness in Hamlet but also helps explain the aspect of madness in one Shakespeare’s other plays, Macbeth. Through her analysis, Coddon successfully offers her readers a deeper understanding of Shakespeare’s choice to portray his characters in this way and provides the
Life in Anglo Saxon England was more dangerous than you would think. Anglo Saxons could be at risk from famine and epidemics, also diseases including degenerative arthritis, leprosy, and tuberculosis. Archaeological evidence appears to show life expectancy was in the thirties, and high infant deaths. Old English Saxon rulers were productive officials, and law-codes somehow survived the seventh tof eleventh century. Under the seventh-century Kentish law, for instance, the total of 12 shillings was payable for removing an ear, 30 shillings for incapacitating a shoulder, and 50 shillings for putting out an eye. Thumping out a front tooth was surveyed at a higher rate of remuneration than thumping out a back tooth, while a finger was worth twice as much as a toe.
The objectives of English 1301, is to introduce us to new literature that will test our interpretation skills as well as hone them, not only will it examine our analysis but help us develop a greater writing technique. From English 1301, I expect to communicate more fluently as time develops, and gaining the proper knowledge to write exquisite meaningful pieces. When it comes to writing, English is usually the language I write it, however there have been exceptions like writing an essay for a different language class such as Spanish. As a writer, my strengths lie on my diction, most often than not, I keep improving the vocabulary until satisfactory. While diction is my strong suit, I know it is important because the way you phrase a sentence
Although the Middle Ages are mostly known as a dark period in Europe, progress was still made in the field of thinking. The rediscovery of Greek philosophy, the creation of universities, and crisis in the church directly led European societies to the Renaissance era, a time of rebirth.
Run-on sentences is also another one of my weaknesses as a writer which is not as big as a problem as my weakness of verb tense use. Another of many disadvantages of a writer in my point of view is my able to organize my sentences so they run smoothly. I need to work a little bit more on my internal organization of paragraphs. I don’t exactly incorporate quotes so that my sentences run as smoothly as they can. All together I think these couple of disadvantages of my writing is minimal and that I can work on these mistakes out if I would proof read my papers more in depth. If I can work out my weaknesses from my writing I will have more advantages and also be considered a better writer.
The Medieval Ages that descended upon the Europeans following the deconstruction and devolution of the formerly grand institutions of the Roman Empire left a world darkened to the eyes of history. The world lost touch with simple concepts to a modern history student of writing, economy, culture, and government—the mainstay of that which we cannot see ourselves without—civilization. What was left of Europe was a state of chaos. In all other periods of human history I have studied there were similarities among them from which I could draw conclusions upon the condition of the respective times. The Text helped to give order to the progression of European history from the ancient to the modern drawing
