Emmanuel College technically started in 1919 as a local learning institute that replaced the previously popular mineral springs health resort. Emmanuel College is dedicated to the development of their students’ spiritual and intellectual growth. Emmanuel College offers a solid liberal arts education in a Christian friendly environment. Their educational values are based the Christian concepts of service, integrity, devotion and community. They strive to create positive experiences in Christian environments that promote social values, lifelong spirituality and community service.
Emmanuel College’s rural campus is located in Northeast Georgia in the town of Franklin Springs. They are affiliated with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. Every year, Emmanuel College only averages about 800 students. The student to teacher ratio of 15 to one, so student engagement rates are high, and the acceptance rate is 55 percent.
Emmanuel College’s athletic teams are the Lions and they are a member of the NCAA Division II. Emmanuel College offers over 25 fields of study through their Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Christian Ministries. The School of Business offers Bachelors of Arts and Science in Business Administration, with either a Management or Computer Information Systems concentration. In reading Bill Davis’ book, In All Things Christ Preeminent, it is evident that receiving an education at Covenant College will be a unique spiritual and intellectual experience. With Christ present in all areas of the school, the structure of the college and what it as an institution aspires to accomplish varies greatly from that of the high school I attended. Based on the Christ-like goals, student body, and instruction of Covenant College depicted in In All Things Christ Preeminent, receiving an education from Covenant seems vastly different from my secular experience at LaFayette High School.
Among the sports offered are flag football, soccer, kickball, basketball, volleyball, softball, ski racing, and ultimate Frisbee. Of all the programs, basketball is the most popular, with around forty teams competing.

At the beginning of the semester, the framework for professional clinical counseling was presented during the class session. According to Littlejohn and Evans (2006), “The purpose of Christian education is always twofold, we want our students to grow spiritually, intellectually, and socially, and we want them to foster similar growth in society” (p. 18). This sums up the Christian liberal arts philosophy. Therefore, a Christian liberal education should be useful and practical. The goal of every Christian is to be like Christ and to serve others just like Christ did. While a traditional liberal arts scholar serves others out of duty to community, a Christian liberal arts scholar serves out of love for the Lord. So, the Christian liberal arts education should build the human person by fundamentally changing who they are and what they, preparing and equipping them for the good work.
In the book, “Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling”, author Mark McMinn gives the reader information on how these three entities can work together in Christian counseling. McMinn offers several ways in which this can be done including the use of prayer, Scripture, confession, forgiveness, the effects of sin, and redemption in counseling sessions. Through narration of counseling vignettes displaying different results, from different approaches demonstrates for the reader integration. There are very many counselors in different walks in their faith and McMinn helps to explore this area for future and practicing clinicians.
Mark R. McMinn’s (2011) Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling establish a way to bring Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality to Christian Counselors. He introduces a replica of how to integrate the three disciplines in the counseling office. The purpose of the book is to instruct counselors how to integrate categories of Psychology, Theology and Spirituality into Christian Counseling. McMinn (2011) contends that many challenges both professional and personal face Christian Counselors on the frontier of intradisciplinary integration. (Intradisciplinary integration is the new emerging frontier for Christian Counselors).
The education of children has existed since the beginning of time as parents have taught and molded their children into the young adults they desired them to be. Initial training of children was not in a formal setting, although history would see numerous settings, purposes, and methodological changes. Philosophies of education have also changed through the years as various voices have seemed to grasp the purpose of educating the next generation, thus laying out objectives to reach those goals of teaching children.
There most definitely is a difference between the psychological and biblical explanation of emotions. The word psychological is defined as relating to the emotional and mental state of the person. Regarding the psychological state, as humans we can change the way that we feel by changing our brain chemistry or at least that’s what psychology tells us. Drugs such as tranquilizers such as depressants or narcotics can sedate an anxious person. Yet we know that the feeling of an emotion must be generated by something more than drug molecules in the brain. Although when it came to a psychological explanation of emotions, and trying to figure out what the cause of my periodical emotional breakdowns some had said that the lack of sleep was taking a toll on me. I had been running on 6 hours of sleep consecutively, and by the third day, I was feeling emotional about everything. Moreover, our bodies and brain influence our emotions. And sometimes in the midst of the constant hustle and bustle stress is a response.
As we go through our day by day lives in a very secular world, I believe it is very easy to question ourselves as Christian educators. We ask ourselves if we are doing our jobs exactly to God’s calling. Are we striving to teach the truth? And with that, what is truth? According to Gaebelein in his book The Pattern of God’s Truth, “All truth is God’s truth.” As educators we are called upon to cultivate “Christlike minds” (Moreland). This is quite the task, especially given our surrounding circumstances and constant secular environment. Not only are we, as educators surrounded by this secularism, but our young, adolescent students are as well. So, how do we accomplish such as task of guiding
The three major features of Deep Springs College that I find exceedingly attractive are its distinctiveness, inspiring policies and exciting nature. It is an extraordinary place that has plenty to offer to it potential candidates. The college clearly offers more than just the associate degree. As to what I know, the college intensely focuses on training its candidate in several academic fields, teaching leadership skills and ways to serve the humanity, preparing an individual to face certain hardships that one might face in any part of life and gives its students a chance to learn new skills. I, somehow personally, find spiritual relation to the method and views of the college.
Winsomely presented, B.B. Warfield is well known for his scholarship with no exception seen here, In The Religious Life of Theological Students. Here as seminary students, we must chiefly be Godly men, apt to teach with the added passion of devotion driven by our love of God. As a result of our love for God, we are encouraged to have in our vocation a devotion with zeal and piety. We are to be as Warfield puts it; God-made, meaning a minister is called, shaped and developed divinely by God’s decree and power thereby being made worthy through the process of God’s call upon their life.
