Presume a couple found out their embryo has a gene mutation that has a high success rate of causing cancer later on in the baby's life. Would you advocate the use of gene therapy in the embryo to correct the problem before the child was ever born? Answer: Yes Explanation: This is because in this case the procedure would be attempting to save the baby from ever contracting cancer and though the procedure would likely to have its own fair share of uncertain consequences it would thus be worth trying to save the baby from cancer and enable them have a long healthy life not threatened by cancer. What if the embryo did not appear likely to develop a genetic disease, but the parents decided that they would really prefer that their child have
A deaf same sex couple went to a fertility clinic requesting spermatozoa that would help them have a deaf child. The clinic turned the couple away. The couple then approached a deaf acquaintance that had a history of deafness across multiple generations in his family. He agreed to donate spermatozoa, and the couple succeeded in having a deaf child. Not only did they succeed to have one child, they had another deaf child 5 years later. Both of the women were born deaf and wanted their children to share the same culture. They deliberately created deaf children and denied any hearing aids or anything helpful for the children(“Medical Ethics”). Even though the parents are deaf it doesn't mean they have to purposely make your children suffer. This
Social network and social connectedness are important to the health of not only individual human beings but also the community and even the entire society. However, the connection among people had been declining for years. As Robert Putnam analyzes in his “Bowling Alone: America’s Declining Social Capital,” America’s national election turnout declines, possibly implying the decline in civic engagement and even the democracy. He stresses the importance of the traditional, face-to-face interactions among people as the fundamental means to build up social connectedness. Besides the reasons he gives in his article, I think the decline in social networking also ties to the city constructions (idea inspired by the video “The Social Life of Small
Is it wrong for parents to screen out embryos with disorders that are treatable? I believe the answer to this question is no, it is not wrong. A disease such as familial hypercholesterolemia, which has two variations, one that is life threatening and one that can be controlled, should

Many, as of currently incurable diseases plague the Earth. Thanks to technological advancements and better understandings of cells, scientists believe that it may be possible to cure diseases by the use of embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are cells obtained from an embryo when they are only a few days old. Because they have only begun to differentiate, these cells have the capability of developing into any cell in the human body, and that's why they can be used for the progression of medicine. Scientists hope to cure some diseases but if that isn't possible they at least hope to create treatments using them.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the pro-life/pro-choice debate for abortion. In this essay, I will defend my stance on pro-choice. I will explain with logic, facts, and reasoning why I believe there is more scientific evidence to support pro-choice, and how it is ultimately healthier for the woman in the long run.
And as Pro Choice Forum states what about the "hypothetical case in which the couple might prefer the use of genetically abnormal embryos to healthy ones, which would deliberately cause a child to be born with a disability."
To begin with, there has always been a huge issue with the topic of abortion, why? Well, it’s a tough subject and can get extremely emotional and very defensive. Honestly, people just need to open up their eye’s and understand that it's murder and not just a choice. It is murder because two can create a blessing and the choice of aborting it, is more like a sacrifice for the reason a mother can’t carry a baby for nine months. Whether a person is a teen, young adult, or an adult and is in a horrible situation that believes they cannot proceed with the pregnancy, they should know there are other options. Teens aborting an unborn baby is not a choice and should be banned because it is wrong without parental consent, the rights of a child, and
Selling fetal tissue is illegal in the state of Michigan. Senators took it a step further, by voting Wednesday to pass a bill that makes it a felony to pay for the distribution or transportation of any part of an embryo. This includes delivering fetal tissues to medical research laboratories.
Anti-abortion lawmakers have found renewed strength to champion tougher restrictions and bans after Donald Trump’s victory in the recent presidential election.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
Many Americans flocked to see Mel Gibson’s movie, “The Passion of the Christ.” On over 2.000 screens across America the viewed the “harrowing depiction of Jesus' last 12 hours in wide-screen vivid color.” (Allen 2004) People viewed images of Jesus being flogged, crucified and left to die. This violence caused some Christians discomfort with theology, and some Jews’ fear that it will “incite violence against them because of its portrayal of Jews’ involvement in Jesus’ death.” (Allen 2004)
Pro-choice has been a major topic ever since the women’s movements started in the early 1970’s, a question sometimes asked is that, if part of the population are so pro-life and worry about protecting a fetus, how come when the child is conceived they suddenly bash at you for having that unwanted child anyways, and that is hypocritical. In this essay, details include would be why people choose to be pro-choice, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the battle for reproductive justice for women and their right to make decisions for their body, advocates that are pro-choice, proposals for a pro-choice government, and Tomi Lahren being fired for stating she was pro-choice.
1. Doctors could possibly save your child from future pain, but only if this procedure becomes ethical and moral.
As a Turner Scholar, I would give insight into multiple marginalized groups and be a strong advocate for becoming more involved. This program would allow learning more about others experiences and culture as a whole. I have always surrounded myself with peers who strive for equality and continuously try to keep up with issues happening throughout the nation and the world. Being a first-generation American as well as a queer woman of color, I am forced to confront issues that others have the privilege to ignore since it doesn’t particularly affect them. It is difficult to speak about issues going on when you feel as if you don’t have a platform to convey your thoughts. Becoming a Turner Scholar would be an amazing opportunity to contribute my voice for the greater good and display a more enlightened perspective of the world around me.
