Torment: The Result of Love
Love is either the best or worst thing that has ever happened to a person, without an in between. Because of how many different perspectives there are from person to person, love is what makes people’s thoughts shrouded and create turmoil. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows the audience the despair that is brought upon those who love through his characters and plot. By using love as the inciting force behind the violence, suffering and death in the play, Shakespeare suggests that love is a harmful human emotion.
Because people follow their hearts in the present, they engage in violence before ever thinking about the future consequences of their actions. To begin with, the Montague and Capulet households continue to bear their grudge due to their love of family honour and pride. They “have thrice disturb’d the quiet of [Verona’s] streets” (I.i.85) and are continuing to pursue using violence as the answer. Even when the prince declares there will be a death penalty for those who do not heed his warnings, Capulet and Montague do not give up on their grudge. Their love of family honour creates more possibilities of violence in the near future. In addition, Tybalt requests a duel with Romeo in order to defend his own ego. Tybalt thinks of Romeo as a “no better term than this: [Romeo] [is] a villain” (III.i.58). Tybalt “will not budge for no man’s pleasure” (III.i.52) because he finds it unacceptable that Romeo, a Montague, could attend a
Love is a big part in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet. This play is about a young girl and boy, who fall in love and so wanting to be together, which eventually led to their death. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare was trying to convey the message of how love can make people do things that they most desire and do so by making sacrifices for each other. This lesson can be demonstrated, not only in the 15th Century but in today’s life. In conclusion, the two “star-crossed lovers” met their demise at the end of this tragedy due to their undivided love for each
Love is something everyone feels, and is different for everyone. It can make people do things that they could never see themselves doing. It impacts everyone in their day to day lives. In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, love is shown in a variety of ways and can make people do crazy things. Love can be friendly, forced, or romantic.
Love is a powerful force that bonds people together through anything and everything. Love will make people do anything for the ones they love and sometimes can’t see the bigger picture. In Shakespeare’s tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers in “fair Verona” from rival families come together in love. They instantly fall in love as soon as they lay eyes on each other and have to marry each other after only knowing each other for twelve hours. Romeo and Juliet have no idea what is to come due to their actions. Young love often results in a selfish isolation from the rest of the world which causes impulsive decisions that bring unintended consequences.
Love is considered one of the purest yet most complicated feelings in the world. There are different types of love, friendship love, romantic love, even sexual love. We humans have evolved over time, but the concept of love has not evolved with us. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare about two young passionate lovers whose deaths unite their feuding families. Although no single character deserves all of the blame for the tragic ending in the play, Friar Lawrence can be considered partially responsible because of his decision of immediately agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet, trusting a 14-year old with a highly dangerous potion,
Have you ever felt an extremely strong crush on someone to the point where you think you’re in love… only to fast forward a year you’re wondering what attractive qualities you saw in that person? “Eros” is an ancient Greek word for love at first sight, or love by looks. The famous play Romeo and Juliet goes forward in time by revealing the dangerous issue of “Eros” love that even modern-day teenagers face. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story about a young man and woman who fall in love by appearance and eventually commit suicide over each other’s death. The danger of Eros can be seen best through Romeo with what he thinks, says, and does.
Love is defined as the intense feeling of deep affection. In the play, Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, the attraction between the two protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, does not factually classify as true love. Meanwhile, lust is a concept in which is commonly mistaken for love, which is very apparent throughout this classic “love story” of Romeo and Juliet. While others could debate that Romeo and Juliet’s love, was love at first sight, it is debateable that their feelings towards one another were pure lust. Romeo and Juliet are too immature to fully understand the concept of love as they are too young and hormone-driven, they were both in search for escapism from their present troubles, and they had an excessive amount of
Love is an overpowering force that dominates and influences the thoughts and actions of many individuals. Some make good decisions, while others make poor decisions due to love. These choices are made because of several types of love: romantic love, platonic love, and familial love. William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet showcases all the categories of love. In the play, many characters make hasty decisions as they are caught in the storm of Romeo and Juliet’s love lives.
Love has a strong power in the brain that makes it as addicting as some drugs. Through studies and research on the brain action we can find how the brain acts towards love. Through numerous scans and studies the people with the longest lasting love/marriage are the people that don't “burn out” their love for each other early and instead take on their love slowly. Studies have found many pieces of new and improved evidence since the early 2000’s and this is one that has changed drastically. Romeo and Juliet starts off with only Romeo and his heartbreak. After his break up, Romeo is really sad and thinks his whole life is over. He goes to a Capulet party looking for the one that broke his heart and quickly gets his mind taken off that with a new girl, Juliet. They go through a lot in the 5 days they have together. The book starts off slightly romantic, but after the famous balcony scene, it quickly escalates into a tragedy. After finishing the romantic tragedy novel of Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, I have developed one claim in my mind. Juliet was not at an old enough age for her brain to be fully mature enough to make such a life changing decision that she did. She was young; therefore, such an event had a major impact on her brain and life.
Love is a topic that has taken over today’s world. From music to movies, everything is now based on the love and relationships between people. However, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which is arguably the most famous love story in the world, could also be seen as a warning against love. The play Romeo and Juliet shows how platonic and romantic love can cause tragedy.
Love is a powerful feeling that is full of contradictions. The play Romeo and Juliet, by Shakespeare, is a story about two hopeless romantics who fall in love but things go south. Through the specific character development, the play is a compelling love story that ends badly. Their love had an ups on the nights they had together but ended in both their deaths. Although there are many events leading to Romeo and Juliet's death, the three main scenes are, when Romeo and Juliet meet, when Juliet is told she has had to marry Paris, and when Juliet takes the sleeping potion which shows the theme of love is bipolar.
In the play, love emerges as an amoral thing, leading as much to destruction as to happiness. But in its extreme passion, the love that Romeo and Juliet experience also appears so exquisitely beautiful that few would want, or be able, to resist its power.
Love is a force of nature that inspires people to exceed expectations to become closer to their love. According to Shakespeare for Students and the opinions of many other people, love and emotions toward someone can be strong enough to propel them to do great deeds, which may or may not alter their future with their love. In the tragedy, after Juliet “dies”, Romeo tries to be the hero and die alongside of her so they could be together in peace without causing any complications between the feuding families.
As Shakespeare composes this tragic love story “Violent delights have violent ends / And in their triumph die, like fire and power, / Which as they kiss consume” (2.6.9). In the play Romeo and Juliet an enchanted love leads to violent ends and consumes two people’s lives until their powerful death. When Romeo first lays eyes on the gorgeous Juliet it is love at first sight. Though their love is authentic and empowering, it is also entirely banned. William Shakespeare writes this masterpiece with much delight but also great sorrow. Romeo and Juliet is the most abiding love story of all time. Shakespeare uses many literary devices in his works. Throughout this story the character Juliet changes remarkably. Shakespeare provides evidence for
William Shakespeare wants the reader to know how love influences the decisions people make. This part of the play takes place in act 2, scene 2. Juliet is on her balcony talking to herself about Romeo, unknowing of his presence in the courtyard below. Romeo reveals himself and the two talk about their love for each other and plan to marry. People are more likely to take risks because of love influencing their decisions. When Juliet tells Romeo “How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore? The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, And the place death, considering who thou art, If any of my kinsmen find thee here.” (Romeo and Juliet 2.2.63). Romeo made the decision to risk climbing the orchard’s wall to get to Juliet because love influenced
In the early stages of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare conveys love in many different ways. Love is shown as being imperfect, such as bawdy love, unrequited love and fatherly and maternal love, this contrasts greatly to Romeo and Juliet’s pure, perfect and requited love, and makes it seem all the more true before it is shown to be deadly.
