My name is Tasha R. Chestnut. I am a 36 year old SSG with the United States Army. I am originally from Slidell, LA where I am an only child of my mother and father. I believe that this will help me be able to give back to my community and become a better, well-rounded individual. I am interested in joining your sorority because not only do you provide an excellent avenue for helping out, the sisterhood displayed by the ladies of Alpha Gamma Xi Sorority Inc. is amazing. I believe that I have a lot of qualities to offer your sorority as well. Not only am I dedicated and goal-oriented, I make plans well and already have ideas about how to invest into my community.

I learned so much about the things I was capable and not capable to do and about the foundation of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. The lovely ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. always made me feel very comfortable to the point that I was able to be myself around them. However, when I tried that with the other sorority members it did not felt the same way. The other sorority made me feel left out and uncomfortable when being around them and that’s something that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did not. Being able to talk one on one, ask for help and talk to the ladies like a regular friend was one of the reason why I chose Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority

The place I chose for the field trip proposal is Epcot theme park. I chose this place because of its diverse culture exhibits. Some reasons I picked this place are, they have many culture experience's, you can explore different culture in one day, and it a good place to taste the different foods and music across the world. It ties into humanity because it explores different countries that have impacted our society from the food to the music, to even our architecture. It also shows us the diverse countries and some of its history.

The three main reasons I am excited to join a sorority include my personal development, loyalty and friendship, and support of my aspirations. As a sister, there is an expectation of social interaction and personal development. I am confident that my experience and communication skills will be enriched by the activities that I participate in, the responsibility I take, and the people I meet. I am looking forward to making friends for life. I think that the atmosphere and set up of a sorority fosters and encourages the development of lifelong friendships through common aims and shared experiences. I also believe that sorority life emphasizes and encourages loyalty to and among the sisterhood, my school and the nation. Support from my sisters

One of the most exciting moments as a Greek was being selected as a recruitment counselor for the Greek community. While it meant having to disassociate myself from my sorority for a period of time, it was a rewarding experience. I was honored that the selection committee thought I exhibited the personal qualities necessary to be a counselor.

She sent us all an email with a “Get to Know Me” document attached to it during the summer before formal recruitment. I remember thinking, this is it. This is the life I have been dreaming of ever since I had received my acceptance letter to UTC. She talked about how much she loved Chattanooga and how impactful the Greek system had on her life. This idea I had in my mind about moving to college and joining a sorority now had a personal connection for me. My Pi Chi was a house head through recruitment so I was around other Pi Chi’s more than my actual one. Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. Week two of field observation at Crestone Charter School. My Second week of field observations was really fun and interactive. I had the opportunity to work with several students from the k-1 class with special needs. We traveled to several reading stations and did a read along with the fourth and fifth-grade students. At arrival, I met with the main Para, Ammie Morphet and was informed that Lexi whom is one of the charter schools highest priority/needs students was the student I would be working with. Lexi usually has a personal in class Para that works with her throughout the day, but she was out sick. Since I know Lexi and have personal experience working with her we came to the conclusion that it would be best if I assisted with Lexis daily routine and any other classroom needs. This allowed Mrs. Morphet to attend to the other students she had previously scheduled for us to meet with.

Joining a sorority is not just four for years but for life. Going through a week-long process of meeting thousands of girls can be intense, overwhelming but intriguing and exciting as well. Recruitment to many is known as a terrifying process where girls come from all over with matching shirts, bright smiles and dreams that at the end of the week they will receive the white envelope that incases the 4x6 card with the sororities crest inviting them into their sisterhood. By preparing ahead of time, which includes building a resume, searching for recommendation letters and extensive research on each chapter, sorority recruitment doesn’t have to be an intimating process.

In order to get information for my paper, I interviewed someone with a position of authority within Tri Delta. Her name is Danielle, and she is the new member educator. The first thing I learned about Tri Delta is that it is more than just letters on a shirt, songs and chants, a gold pin, socials, rituals, an obligation, or a way of life. “Being in a sorority is about learning about people and being able to give without expecting a return. Tri Delta has allowed me to find lifelong friends and find confidence in myself as well as in my sisters,” Danielle explained. After hearing her explanation, I couldn’t agree more. Danielle also told me that the close relationships are her favorite part. “My favorite part about being in Tri Delta is the sisterhood.

There is more risk involved in a making a field trip than in attending a typical day at school. The travel is longer, the destination is new and unknown.

Schools want to continue to foster interest in education by creating fun, entertaining, rewarding and liberating educational opportunities. So they take students to Theaters, Art Museums, Historic Cities, and even Amusement Parks just to give the children some variety and excitement to add to their day outside the classroom.
