A tone of mourning and loss has been used. A mournful tone can be very typical of sad songs, especially ones regarding war. This helps to engage the listener and manipulate their emotions surrounding the war, which is a sorrowful event, especially from the eyes of a British band. “But we’d never guess the way that Eddie feels” is a quote from the song using a mournful tone. This is mournful due to them feeling sorry for how Eddie feels. Similar tone can be seen in Another Man’s Cause by the Levellers through the line “your daddy, well, he died in the Falklands” which sets the tone through the topic of death.
