In the poverty simulation I played the role of a 16-year-old girl named Connie Chen who was 7 months pregnant. My father had just gotten laid off from his job and my mother was the only one bringing in income for our family. Our monthly expenses exceeded our income which forced us to choose between basic necessities. Cultural considerations weren’t mentioned in our packet, but since we were of Chinese decent it is possible a lack of knowledge in navigating the U.S health system would be a barrier to receiving necessary healthcare. The Chinese culture also puts less emphasis on individual feelings and more emphases on loyalty to the family, making it important to include the whole family in decision making.
The main feeling I experienced in

My family didn’t eat at all for the first two weeks and we were starting to develop health problems, fortunately none of my family had to go to the hospital but this wouldn’t be the case in real life. According to Canales, Coffey, & Moore (2015) “Eating nutritious food is one of the major modifiable determinants of chronic disease”. Low income families are especially at risk for malnutrition because more often than not healthier foods are more expensive and do not last as long as less nutritious food. IN addition to malnutrition, families who live in food insecure households are also more at risk for chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and depression. “In order to eliminate persistent health inequities related to food insecurity, nurses and other health professionals need to direct efforts toward identifying food-insecure patients and increasing access to healthy food for low-income populations” (Canales, Coffey, & Moore, 2015). It is also important for nurses to be empathetic and remain non-judgmental towards low income families because difficulty feeding ones’ family can be embarrassing and hard for families to discuss with other people especially
A. How many of you are worried about where your next meal will come from? Are you unsure of how you’re going to purchase next week’s groceries or what you will be feeding your children for dinner tonight? This probably isn’t something most of you think about from day to day. When you are hungry, you eat. It’s easy for you to grab a sandwich, order a pizza, or run through the drive thru when you are on the go. However, there are many families, not just in other countries, but here in the United States as well, that are going hungry every day. According to kidshealth.org, a child dies from malnutrition and related causes every 6 seconds.
Putting food on the table may become a difficult task putting the family at risk for hunger (Martin, 2011).
For most Americans, the word poverty means insufficient access to to housing, clothing and nutritious food that meet their needs for a healthy life. A consequence of poverty is a low socioeconomic status that leads to being exposed to poor nutrition. Since food and dietary choices are influenced by income, poverty and nutrition go hand in hand. There are many important factors that threaten the nutritional status of poor people. The number one factor is not having enough money to buy food of good quality and quantity. Not having enough money can have a profound impact on the diets of low-income people. Limited financial resources may force low income people to make difficult decisions about what kind and how much food to buy. Limited
a. Say we are already suffering the long-run consequences of the policies of the remote or recent past.
For many individuals in our Vietnamese community whom grew up in Vietnam, they know what it is like to go hungry for several days due to being unable to buy food. In order to find a better lifestyle for their families, they immigrated to the United States. However, for many families in America, the feeling of hunger is becoming a common occurrence due to being food-insecure. The definition of food insecurity according to the American Institute of Nutrition is “the state of being unable to get reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food”. The holidays are supposed to be a time to celebrate, and to share a meal with others. But for a number of families, they’re met with a familiar feeling of hunger. This may cause them to suffer emotionally from being unable to feast at the holidays. Those that are not living on the edge of poverty will not understand how much financial pressure is put on vulnerable families as they relied on schools to provide free meals to their children. The Food & Nutrition Service (FNS) runs a program that covers a portion of low-income children with meals over their summer; there isn’t a national program that covers the holiday break. This puts additional stress on low-income families, as they have to find ways to provide food, along with getting their children cared for. Food insecurity
I will always try to communicate with others so that I can solve problems and help people to the best of my abilities. Communicating helps for me to connect to the other players problems or situation. If someone needs help to report someone, I will do it straight away and help him get passed his or hers problem. Sometimes, the players will not be getting help from the staff members. I would love to reduce that problem and will answer there questions safe and soundly no matter who it is.

In the United States, there is a substantial number of children that live below the federal poverty line and even more that live below twice the poverty line (Jackson, 2014). According to Jackson (2014), poverty and food insecurity are undeniably related and these children living below the federal poverty line are at risk for varying negative effects, such as delayed cognitive development and medical problems, that hunger can cause. There is a variety of nutritional policies that help these children as well as adults who live in economically disadvantaged and food-insecure households such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) (Jackson, 2014; Marx, Broussard, Hopper, & Worster, 2010). This program
It is also clear that there is evidence that shows a great need in improving people of low-socioeconomic status health because the government has been making efforts. However, what have not been addressed are the barriers that people in low-income communities still face even with government resources. Furthermore, it is also clear that the government saw the importance of making sure that low income families had access to health care when they created Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act. While access to health care is also a very important piece to a healthy lifestyle, it also becomes counterproductive when people still continue to have a poor diet and end up having to seek medical help at some point. Giving people the chance to have a better nutrition would also help decrease the number of doctor visits for those who do seek medical attention, and for those who don’t seek medical attention it would at least keep them
Formulate a reason why the elasticity of demand is an important consideration when analyzing the impact of a shift in supply and why the elasticity of supply is an important consideration when analyzing the impact of a shift in demand. Include at least one (1) example in each scenario.
When I started perusing chapter six, Understanding Key Cost Connections, I as of now had thought that the costing of products was necessary keeping in mind the end goal to make a benefit. Be that as it may, I had just ever considered expense from the viewpoint of a client and as a little entrepreneur with the little learning of bookkeeping. I enjoyed Warren Smorgasbord's quote, "Expense is the thing that you pay, quality is the thing that you get". As a client, I consistently grumble about the expense of things however I am set up to pay more for a few items since I get more esteem and in light of moral reasons. Case in point, I will pay more for quality shoes and morally angled fish. Eighteen years back, as a first-time little entrepreneur,
For most us Americans, knowing when we’re going to eat next is something we very rarely think of, and when we do think about being hungry we still know where our food is coming from. Three big meals a day, and a few snacks in between, is how most of us live. It’s hard for us to imagine what its like for those who go days eating very little or nothing at all. But unfortunately that’s how it is for most of the world and surprisingly it happens in the United Sates as well. There are many reasons malnutrition can happen, and it happens to every age group. Even though there are many ways to treat it, in the
A families socioeconomic status has many different effects on various aspects of their everyday lifestyle. One of these aspects of everyday life is overall health and nutrition. Economically, healthier foods can be more difficult to obtain amongst lower income homes. It is important that all people, especially those economically struggling, find healthier and more affordable options to gain proper nutrients. There has been extensive research done to investigate the lack of proper nutrition locally and how a family’s socioeconomic status plays a role in this. Children, especially those under the age of sixteen, are more inclined to be less healthy coming from a lower income family than a child that is coming from a more stable financial situation.
