There are many families out there who are currently struggling to make ends meet. Regardless of their hard work and commitment, the economy will not take pity. I wish I could say that it was not always like this. Unfortunately, no real change has taken place within the past few years. It may not be as difficult as the time of the Great Depression, but who’s to say that we have recovered from it? Out of all the informal powers presidents tend to use the executive power the most.

Imagine a person trying to start a business. This person has some experience with the sort, but doesn’t have any help to jumpstart it. No financial help, no wealthy friends, no parents to back him up. Can he do it? The answer is no, he can’t, and unfortunately this is the case with everyone. Although his remark is often analyzed as the typical overconfidence that may have lead up to the Great Depression, Coolidge’s statement is clearly more valid now than ever. Given the critical circumstances the United States economy faces today, the current fiscal policy, in addition to the changes that will be made in the future, is under intense scrutiny. During the Obama administration, which will soon come to an end in about six months, a variety of policies were created in attempts to create employment, raise our GDP, and boost the state of the economy, among other ideas. The fiscal policies created by Congress and the President demonstrate success in some areas, while failing in other areas, as many, including myself, would argue. As the 2016 election quickly approaches, it is important to remember previous fiscal mistakes and successes, and the current economy, in order to better grasp what will be necessary for a successful fiscal policy in the future.

To be fair, working at my parents' business has been an incredibly beneficial experience; I have had work experience that most people do not get at least until high school; I have had an opportunity to explore my interests, such as marketing; and I have spent a good deal of my life helping people. However, my parents buying a business and our move to a small town have also had their negative consequences. One of the largest repercussions we still face is the financial struggle of owning a small business. My parents bought the business and the building right before the Recession, so earning profits was difficult at first.
