A dog owner in Pennsylvania got a surprise when she took her pet to the vet with stomach woes. Surgery was required to relieve the dog of an unusual range of stomach contents that included eight pairs of underwear. As the parent of a fur baby, it can sometimes be hard to decide whether a delicate tum is a short-lived affair, or warrants a trip down to the vet quick smart. Here are five signs that may help you better understand why your dog is unwell, so that you can make a more informed decision before getting into the car.

If you are not aware of foods that can be toxic to dogs, here's a couple of the bad guys:

Avocado. Persin is a compound that is found within avocados and while it does no harm to humans, it will make your dog ill. If your pet gets into the bowl of guacamole, take them to the vet.
Coffee. Have you ever tried to take a break from a one cup a day coffee habit? That caffeine addiction is not easy to break. If your dog has a drink of your coffee, they could experience heart palpitations, increased breathing or internal bleeding. They need to be seen by your vet before permanent internal damage is done.
Other foods that could cause problem include alcoholic beverages, chocolate and grapes. Call your vet if you unsure about something your pet has consumed.

Now that you are better informed, you have a better idea of when you need to take them immediately to the vet when stomach troubles strike. While mild intestinal disorders will strike your dog during its lifetime, moving your underwear to an unreachable shelf will at least prevent that being the cause of a vet
