Over the course of the book Wine to Water author and narrator Doc Hendley experienced many ups and downs but found his calling and passion while in Darfur Africa. He immensely enjoyed helping the people who needed it the most. He shows he courage and shows us how one person can impact the lives of many individuals in a positive way, changing lives forever.
Through Hendley’s time in Darfur Africa his passion for helping people was immeasurable and incomparable. When he arrived in Darfur he was unsure of how he could make an impact on the water crisis their. After traveling to many villages in the heart of tragedy he realized that the most effective way to help the water crisis was not to bring them water but to fix their water. For the following weekend he travels around Darfur to war torn villages fixing water wells and bringing them clean water for the first time in months or even years. His impact on the war torn villages was commendable. Doc knew the risks every time he entered the villages. As he picked the villages that were in the center on “no-go” zones

He traveled long distances up the mountain to a village that was more well off than the others but was still lacking water. Doc struggled at first to find the morals to help the bad guys get clean and fresh water. He eventually overcomes and finds the right morals to help the people that may die without the clean water, every though their men are out killing others in Darfur. He fixes the wells for these bad guys in hopes the word will go out of his good conscience and the Janjaweed would stop ruining his hard work in other villages. So Doc’s hard work and good conscience helped many individuals who may have gone month without water, and without Doc probably would have never gotten it. His courage to decide to go into Janjaweed territory and selflessly help people who needed to get clean
In 2012, Dickson “Doc” Hendley published his book Wine to Water, which also happens to be the name of his non-profit organization that he founded in 2003. Wine to Water’s mission is to provide clean drinking water to those in the Amazon, Cambodia, the Dominican Republican, East Africa, Haiti, and Nepal. This is a true story about a man who was trying to save the world and ended up saving himself in the process, while helping others. Doc clearly demonstrates soft entrepreneurship through public speaking, time management, relationship building, leadership, negotiation, and empathy. During his Wine to Water events, he would explain the cause and what he hoped to achieve. Time management was key since many problems were time sensitive due
The 2008 documentary “Blue Gold: World Water Wars” introduced the world to one of the most significant environmental concerns of the modern era. Directed by Sam Bozzo, this film brings to life the compelling story told by Maude Barlow and Tony Clarke in their 2002 international bestseller Blue Gold: The Battle against Corporate Theft of the World’s Water. It was first screened at the 2008 Vancouver International Film Festival where it won the audience award for Best Environmental Film. This film’s main message is that water is no longer a fundamental human right, but a privilege awarded only to those with the means to access it. Through its cinematic elements, “Blue Gold: World Water Wars” succeeds in conveying its main argument, which is that if nothing is done about water scarcity now, the wars of the future will be fought not over oil, but water.
If I were to describe Doc Hendley I would say that in the beginning of the book he was kind of a rough guy. He had no direction in his life. For example he moved from job to job. He traveled the country on his motorcycle and made ends meet by working at bars. In the last section of Wine to Water (p. 273) he had mentioned that he would handle a rough situation differently a few years ago when he had a short temper. Once he met his friend Tasha she turned things around for him. She made Doc start thinking about what he was put on Earth to do. Fast forward to when Doc was first in Darfur. After a few months of being in an extreme culture shock, Doc started to feel sympathetic towards the needy people in the world. In this last section

Even though it did not completely eradicate drugs it did address the drug trafficking problem in many different aspects. Both of these problems took courage and strength to overcome, which is reason enough for many people to consider him a hero.
In a Long Walk to Water, Salva experiences the power of water. After struggling many years as a refugee, he gets a new chance at a life in America, but he still holds love for his country. After the war ends, Sudan returns to its daily struggles as well as war restorations. One of the daily struggles is finding clean water. Girl must walk to some water source miles away just to get water which is not clean. This brings many people illness from the bacteria in the unfiltered water. Salva noticed these struggles and helped his country by building multiple clean water pumps for villages. He realized his purpose when watching the Sudanese war unfold and the terrors that surrounded him

Two out of every five people living in Sub-Saharan Africa lack safe water. A baby there is 500 times more likely to die from water-related illness than one from the United States. This is a serious ongoing issue that requires the rest of the world to take action. Water spreads diseases easily if the necessary precautions are not taken. Many developing African countries don’t have sewage treatment, or the people don’t have methods to filter and disinfect. Once a person is sick either there is no way to cure them, or medical care is too expensive, so they are left untreated with a high risk of death. Although many believe that the fight for sanitary water in Africa is insurmountable, people in these developing countries can overcome their challenge to access clean water and avoid water-borne diseases through proper sewage treatment facilities, universal water filtration and medical care.

Knowing that not everyone in the world has access to clean water is terrifying. While I live in a first world country drinking eight cups of water a day without thinking about it, somewhere else another seventeen year old girl has to worry about getting sick from the water she drinks every day. I cannot just sit around and do nothing when somewhere out there some of God’s children are hurting.
Even after the Ifo refugee camp closed due to the collapse of the Ethiopian government, Salva still contained his determination to survive and see his family again and led fifteen hundred boys for one and a half years to the next refugee camp: Kakuma. After staying at Kakuma for some time, Salva was chosen to be rehabilitated in America, where he would soon find out that his father was still alive in a hospital. Salva immediately travelled back to Sudan and found out that his family was safe and sound in their home village. Knowing that his family was alive, Salva flew back to the United States and began a non-profit organization called Water for Sudan to bring water wells to Sudanese villages so people wouldn’t have to walk many miles in the sun to fetch water for their

Throughout his public life, he embodied for many people an ideal of persistence, tolerance and personal strength. In my opinion, it is the combination of these qualities that made him an outstanding person and a globally recognized leader. Neither persistence without strength, nor strength without tolerance would suffice to turn around the life of
