As a concerned parent, one might fear that his child may grow up violent when the parent overhears the child shout out, “Bang! Bang! I killed you!” during a playdate. This incident can lead the parent to question if toy weapons are appropriate in the household or not. However, before the parent decides to hide all the toy weapons, it is important for both the parent and the child to realize that a toy weapon does not have the same capability as a real weapon, hence the word “toy.” Plus, toy weapons have existed for generations, so why have they become such a huge issue now? Unlike the parent, when a younger child picks up a toy weapon he does not make the connection between the toy weapon- that does not harm- and a real weapon that has the potential to really hurt someone. Also, playing with toy weapons is just a normal behavior for most children.
Toys can influence a child’s behavior, and his or her identity. Children are given toys that demonstrate different significance about aggression, different genders and how to interact with each other. An example would be guns and swords; these are geared toward boys, and endorse fighting, and battling In retrospect, guns and swords can help children in developing
More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in the US. Most of which are caused by handguns. Homicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-24 year-olds. Most reasons for gun violence are caused by video game influence, and issues of mental illnesses. Video games are one of the biggest causes of gun violence because of the majority of in game violence that occurs. Today’s children are more prone to violence due to video games and the violent movies, but then that leads back to the way they were raised. In today’s world, both parents work, there is no family time to teach their children the main differences between right and wrong. When most people don’t know who they are harming, it makes it a lot easier for them to cause harm.
Children often can be the victims of accidents involving guns. These accidents usually occur due to the child's lack of knowledge concerning the dangers of the weapon and their undeniable curiosity involving the unknown. Simply, parents do not educate their children in the correct manner to handle a gun, and they often place their weapons in an easily accessible location, resulting in dire consequences. For example, if
Even though evidence proves otherwise, many people claim the large quantity of guns in the United States are culpable for the country’s murder rates. While the United States population and number of guns have steadily gone up since 1994, the rates of all different crime types have drastically gone down (Planty). Over the last nineteen years, almost fifty million guns have been added to the US, yet firearm violence has been reduced by more than two thirds (Federal Bureau). This completely contradicts the statement that more guns equal more violence. To compare the two, solely based on these statistics, it looks as though the upsurge of guns and armed citizens has only led to less violence. Another example, that disproves this, is the Firearm Act of 1997. After a school shooting, the United Kingdom passed this act banning almost all of their guns. That year, the UK had initially recorded seven hundred and thirty-four homicides. While only steadily increasing, by the year 2002, they had a recorded one thousand and forty-one homicides (Osborne). This act did not prevent homicides at all, and as a matter of fact it only created more violence. The District of Columbia is another case in point on how the lack of guns does not mean there is any lack of violence. DC has a 3.6% gun ownership ratio of the people living there, ranking it the lowest in the Unites States. At the same time, DC has the highest gun deaths and firearm robberies in the Unites States. The District has a
Assault weapons create a perilous learning environment and have a negative impact on school safety. Many students become frightened
Humans have a natural resistance within them that makes it very difficult to harm other humans. The greatest human phobia, of confronting human aggression at close range, can place a great toll on a person (Killology Research). Studies have shown that rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are higher when a human does harm to another human. Therefore, the use of a weapon by a teacher could significantly impact that individual’s mental health and influence how the teacher performs his or her job and experiences daily
My topic arguable because NRA (National Rifle Association) in the U.S. do not want to hear what the children say about the use of guns. The National Rifle Association(NRA) should realize that psychological effects of gun violence it gives to the children is
Violent media has been proven time and time again over the past 60 years to cause increased aggression in children and young adults. The long term and short term exposure to violent media has been shown to cause “increased feelings of hostility, expectations that others will behave aggressively, desensitization to the pain of others, and increased likelihood of interacting and responding to others with violence” (Committee on Public Education). One of the most famous experiments done on the subject was done in 1961 by the psychologist Albert Bandura at Stanford University. In this experiment children between the ages of three and six were put in a playroom containing a many activities and toys (Cherry). One of those toys was a bobo doll; a 5 foot tall inflatable doll. An adult would enter and either play with the child from a complete ten minutes, the control group, or at some point during those ten minutes begin beating up the doll, the experimental group. They would also say things such as “pow” and “he keeps coming back for more” while attacking it (Cherry).
In Hasselstrom’s essay she recounts times where she had been in her car with her gun and been armed while camping. If a child had been present they could have easily picked up the weapon in both of these situations. Children do not know better
In the article “Guns, Sex and Education” (2015) Jamie O Meara has argued that because of increase in the rate of violence, gun education should be compulsory for students .In the starting author tells about how he felts about the guns and mentions his first gun experience, moreover he compare the gun weight with the rock .The gun was owned by his friend and he talks about the gun felt different when he did shooting in his childhood. Then author talks about the North Americans, that the character like Rambo, Terminator and Mad Max they made a examples that guns are fun and adventurous. Such activities attracts young one the most. Then author mentions that parental threat can never stop the children to any of the wrong this such as Theory
Furthermore, children growing up seeing these weapons that are made purely to kill can psychologically affect the ways that they see death and violence. RRR I mean, debates are being held, in America, over whether we should ban violent video games as they pose a threat to the way youths see life and guns even though the Americans allow guns in their country. Banning guns would kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
Have you ever thought of the concept of nerfed weapons in elementary? As a child in a weapon shielded environment the thought of weapons and hand crafted pen guns became an interest and quickly a hobby. My mom ,coming from a war infested country, guns played an essential role in her instilled hatred for weapons. Anything that could accurately represent a gun was greatly kept from me as a child. The isolation from guns as a boy couldn't be held from me any longer when 4th grade arrived.
First, if children stay home and play video games for a long period of time it causes, it is a wrong idea because it can lead to an aggressive behavior from violent video games. The video games of force make children interested in holding a gun in the game but it can easily influence them to hold it in real life because they think that they can use the gun in real as they use it in video game. What I think is that video games are making army which are children be in training on the fake life but when they grow up, they are aware of to the grip of guns. They are attempted by drastic video games because video games make every each level hardest than other, which make children be in challenge to win and skip other level. That is effect
The Moms Demand Action organization has recently made print advertisements to hopefully spark conversation and controversy among the audience to the group 's standpoint on assault weapon laws in the United States. The Moms Demand Action organization is a group of mothers specifically targeting parents about spreading awareness of increasing gun violence involving children in the country. Though pro 2nd Amendment, The organization 's goal is to not only promote awareness of gun violence involving children, but to hopefully create a movement demand legislation to control certain assault weapons that have been used to commit mass crime sprees. One of the organizations most specific and effective ads involves two school children holding two different objects that have been banned for their safety. One is a dodgeball and the other is an assault weapon. The Moms demand action gymnasium ad effectively uses children in a school holding banned objects along with the slogan ‘For gun sense in america’, to persuade American parents to take action against gun violence involving children.
It's is a well known fact that kids bring weapons into school. They might just want to show off their dad's new hunting knife or their mom's gun they keep in her purse. Everyone remembers the story of the kindergartener that brought a gun to school. A five-year-old boy from Albuquerque New Mexico was suspended from kindergarten after bringing a pellet gun to school. A teacher at Alameda Elementary School found the gun in the boy's bag after students mentioned he was showing it off. The pellet gun was not loaded. The boy was suspended for three days and school officials spoke with his parents about the incident. These kids might not want to hurt anyone; they most
