Juxtaposing research via pinterest and annotated bibliography, taught me how social media can be used as an academic resource and how to adequately identify credible sources for an annotated bibliography. Also learning to use databases made it easy to find and identify reliable scholarly sources. Though I was familiar with citing sources, I had always used a web-based citation formulator. Therefore learning MLA 8th edition was a completely new experience. The rigidity and technicality used to scare me, but the system makes sense now that I have a comprehensive understanding. While learning to create an annotated bibliography, I encountered a few mechanical errors. I did not use a hanging indent for the bibliography and thus had to learn …show more content…
Pinterest connected the class in an informal and collaborative way while the annotated bibliography was formal and rigid. In Pinterest, the majority of our “pins” were visual explanations, diagrams, and cartoons. This diversity of medium, along with its colloquial nature, gave Pinterest a popular appeal. The annotated bibliography, created from scholarly articles, was purely academic and included little room for conversation.
The purpose of Pinterest, as a social media platform, is to connect users by allowing them to collectively interact within a network. For research purposes, Pinterest boards are used to brainstorm ideas and create a hub for gathering information. This information is not often simply text, but rather communicated with visuals or comics in order to engage a broad audience. For example, see the figure on the right. This style of gathering information mimics a discussion because each user feeds off the ideas that are already present. This allows the research to dabble briefly in a large number of

The expository writing style for the annotated bibliography asks the researcher to explain the article/source while developing its credibility. In the academic world this allows other colleagues to pinpoint where certain information was collected. The writing within the entry is direct, lacking the color or vibrancy of the Pinterest board. The writing style for Pinterest is hard to narrow down as a variety of media can be pinned. However, if we look directly at our classes’ board we can see that the style communicates the information in a linguistically brief and concise manner, while the visuals do most of the explanation. In the bibliography there are no visuals, forcing the reader to rely solely on the annotated explanation.
The information in an annotated bibliography is built upon scholarly review and recognition by those in a similar designated field of study. In Pinterest, the first pins on the board set the tone, and the floodgates open for a rush of ideas. This collaborative nature allows the research to move as a group conversation among individuals of all backgrounds . Given the popular appeal and brevity of Pinterest’s language, it may not be applicable for very specific topics. (I’m researching the American state of awareness in regards to their
Sharing on Pinterest means creating boards that will be of interest to others. If you're purely promotional all the time, people will stop following your boards. There are group boards you can join if you are sharing interesting knowledge in your niche.
Hello Mr. Weatherly, I have a question about the annotated bibliography assignment. Do I need to upload just one annotated bibliography from one of my work cited page or I need to have all of the annotated bibliography from my work cited page? And the annotated bibliography is not due until next Saturday
I agree the annotated bibliography does seem like a better option compared to the reference list. The annotated bibliography as you stated gives the reader an insight into what the researcher used to develop their paper. Researching is important and citing what was researched is extremely important, especially if that information is used as a part of the researchers work. Using the annotated bibliography may be a little more work and requires more detail, but in the end it provides more resource information to complete our research.
First, the article begins with the framework of an annotated bibliography. Similar to how Allyn and Bacon interprets annotations, the article says to include at least the article’s central thesis, a summary of the source’s main arguments, and how this is relevant to your topic. I enjoyed the way this article was very concise in explaining parts of an annotated bibliography. As said in the article, “Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the
Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author's point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority. Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills: concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research.

I am glad you were able to find information redarding your topic. I ran into a few issues, but I shortened my rearch to just two or three words and was able to find sources. I like how you mentioned that it made your thesis statement stronger. I feel that the annotated bibliography strengthed mine as well. If I wasn't able to find creditable sources I would have changed my thesis statement. I will be adding the annotated bibliography to my writing process for persuasive/research writing.
In this week, I have learned something interesting I’ve never thought about. The new technique that I learned in this week has been annotating bibliography in APA style. In fact, this lesson taught me how to get a list of sources and write the main ideas about the source itself. Although I scored a low score on the first draft on the annotated bibliography assignment, I think if I practice this skill more often, I will be able to summarize the author’s arguments and analyze his/her evidences in future. in addition, this new technique will expand my mind to read articles comprehensively to support my research when graduating. In the end, this skill is a good one because it gives the reader of my research a little summary about each source that
An annotated bibliography is a record of citations to books, editorials, and papers. Each citation is followed by a short summation, which are about 150 words by and large, explanatory and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The intention of the annotation is to enlighten the reader of the importance, exactness, and excellence of the sources quoted. The annotated bibliography will assist me as I write my research paper is that it will make the writing of the paper less of a struggle for that it will provide me some edification into making the paper more efficient and fluid.
While doing this, I found out that some of the sources were not what I thought they were going to be. For example, one of the sources for my public argument seemed like it was against abortion, but once I got to the end, I found out that the author was actually for abortion. I had this problem while writing both of my essays, so I had to go back to the databases to find new sources. I think the most important change I made during the writing process was changing a few of my sources to ones that would better validate the arguments in each annotated bibliography. After searching within the database for a while, I was able to find other articles that gave me a wider range of information and statistics to choose from. If I would have not taken the time to go back and find sources that would better fit my argument, I would have needed to do it later in the writing process of each essay. Because of this, I went back for both of my annotated bibliographies and replaced some of the sources that I thought were good at first, but after reading more into them I found that they did not provide me with the evidence I
About a month ago while scrolling through Pinterest, a pin caught my eye. To be honest I admit quite a few pins catch my eye. My daughter, Christy, thought Pinterest would be a good fit for me and it was. I was soon smitten. Obsessing over Pinterest, I spent hours scrolling and pinning, scrolling and pinning, day after day, month after month, thoroughly getting a kick out of my new-found passion.
In all honesty, this was one of the first annotated bibliographies I had written in a couple years. Because of this, I began the assignment by reviewing how to write annotations and how to properly cite sources on Purdue Owl. Given that most of an annotated bibliography was basic summary and reflection, it wasn’t too hard to complete. For the first time this quarter, I began the assignment before the weekend by compiling my sources. For a multitude of reasons, it was difficult to find peer reviewed articles. First, my claim involves social media, which is still a fairly new tool in society. Therefore, many researchers have not gathered information on the effect it has on the young children who grew up using it. What makes it worse is
I was going to structure the essay, and used my annotated bibliography as a reference
Social media also allowed students to work with new technologies. Because of this students are becoming more familiar with computers and other electronic devices. (Dunn)
We have all been in classes where someone has openly stated that they just simply cut and paste information from the internet and simply reference it at the end of their paper. They are able to accomplish their work faster, and they know the information is accurate, because it’s actually
