Diana Ross began her career as a singer that evolved as an actress. She began as a member of a famous singing group, which grew into world-wide fame, riches, and family. Diana has led a rags-to-riches life that is one to be admired. Diana Ernestine Earle Ross was born on March 26, 1944. Diana Ross was born to schoolteacher Ernestine and former US Army soldier Fred Ross SR in Detroit, Michigan. Diana was the second of six children to Fred and Ernestine. She grew up in one of Detroit’s low income housing districts. Diana Ross actually wanted to become a fashion designer and studied design, pattern-making, and seamstress skills at Cass Technical High School. She worked at Hudson Department Store as a teenager until she graduated in January of 1962. In 1959, at the age of 15, Ross was asked to join The Primettes. “The Primettes” were the sister group of the doo-wop band “The Primes”, later named “The Temptations”. The Dave Clark Five was the first to follow the success of the Beatles and toured the U.S extensively followed their hit song "Glad All Over" in 1964. Former jazz trio "The Animals" landed on the #1 spot in both the U.K and U.S chart with "House of the Rising Sun". This rendition added a twist to the original country version by featuring piano. It was February 9th, 1962, when the shaggy-haired seventeen year old, George Harrison, was running late for the group's debut performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England (citation). Hastily running to the rehearsing room, the teen was stopped dead in his tracks for wearing jeans. Since it was against club policy to wear jeans, bouncer Paddy Delaney wanted to kick the youngster out (citation). But, after a bout of sweet-talking and persuading, the frantic youth was able to accompany his band for their official “coming-out” concert (citation).
